This band may have the deepest catalogue of songs that are a must hear. As someone already said, the rabbit hole is deep. Considering this band only existed for about 5 years with the original lineup, I can think of about 30+ songs of theirs right off the top of my head. If I thought about it, probably closer to 50 songs. This to me, is one of the best Rock Bands EVER. In any genre.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was formed 1964 with Ronnie Van Zant, Bob Burns, Allen Collins, and Larry Junstrom in their hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. .They called themselfs My Backyard and then the 1% They changed their name to LS in 1969. Now their first album dropped in 73 and the crash was in 77, that's may be the four or five years you are speaking about. But not with the original members, They picked up Ed King and Leon then played bass. After Bob left a Artimus played drums Billy was a roadie until they discovered he was a classical trained pianist, Ed left and they went with just Allen and Gary then they picked up Steve in 76 " Steve's first gig was Live from the Fox From the album One more From the Road"
, And we all know what happened Oct 20 1977.

There's a funny story that Al Kooper, the producer, called the band up and said they still needed one more song to finish out the album. So, they went in and played this song for him to hear. He listened to it, and said, "I'm not going to let you guys record this song!" He thought was boring and he said they should bring in something better to record. Ronnie Van Zant finally told him, "Al, you go on home and we'll record it without you". Al, said well, you can't do that". Ronnie then escorted Al outside to his car, told him. "You get out of here or we're gonna have trouble". Al left and they recorded it without him, But he actually ended up coming back and playing the organ on the song. Lol....But he said later in an interview, Ronnie was the boss and that's just the way it was.
But we can't take anything away from Al Kooper. Afterall, the man 'is' responsible for bringing us Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was a veteran in the music biz dating all the way back to playing guitar on the road for The Royal Teens ("Short Shorts" 1956). Co-wrote "This Diamond Ring" for Gary Lewis & The Playboys, he played organ on the Bob Dylan song "Like a Rolling Stone", French horn and piano on the Rolling Stones song "You Can't Always Get What You Want". And organized the band, Blood Sweat and Tears (although he didn't remain with them long enough before they became successful). But he is smart and he knew a good sound when he heard it. He had been looking for a new act to produce while he was down in Florida and started checking out the local acts when he noticed Skynyrd playing in a small club. After several nights watching them, he finally approached them and offered them a contract. And the rest is history as they say!

My Mom wasn't ever the greatest mom, she wasn't a bad mom but she had problems do to childhood trauma she endured, so I have no hard feelings towards her. When my parents divorced I stayed with my Dad and he was the greatest dad anyone could ever ask for. He was a great man in many ways, the type of person that no matter who you are after meeting him just once he's made a impression on you. Everyone had nothing but high praise for my father and he dedicated his life to raising me and being the best Dad possible. He showed me nothing but love and patience, kindness and understanding. He gave up everything for me as a child and worked himself to exhaustion every day to provide for me and to create a foundation of wisdom and intellect as well as purchasing land and rebuilding a home for me in the future. On October 9th 2019 that future unfortunately became the present when my Dad passed away at the age of 71 from lung cancer. He was a Nebraskan farm boy, a Vietnam veteran, a Colorado mountain man, a loving father and a loving grandfather. He worked every day of his life for his family, even being out in his garden just two days before he passed away making sure the plants were doing well so his grandson would have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. I miss my Dad more than words can explain. Rest in peace Paul Brand. You are truly one of the greatest men this world has ever known.

I’m the same way all my life I can tie a song to a year of my life where I was who I was with everything that’s unusual, I thought I was the only one! And I remember every verse of every song

I think “Simple Man” is the best song the band ever released.

Harri old son, be prepared. The morning I walked out of hospital, Good Friday, 2001, when Mom died, the entire world felt different, the chain to my anchor had snapped and I was adrift, a void had opened before me I could never again span and, in the 7, 400+ mornings since, nothing has essentially changed for me. You get used to the heartache, but it never goes away.

Great song - also please consider a completely different song with the same name by Bad Co - Simple Man (first band Led Zeppelin signed to their Swan Song label and my favorite Rock voice Paul Rodgers)

Every good parent knows how to plant that seed and let it grow. I lost my mom and dad more than 10 years ago now. But even as I get older, you can bet I still remember those little seeds that were planted and still remind me long after they are gone.

The band name is, I think, a joke on an old school principal. The man’s name is/was Leonard Skinner. They didn’t like him at the time, so as kids can do, they laughed at his name. We’ll just call him Linnerd Skinnerd.
