Very nicely done. Handled it like a pro. I have ringing ears when i get around those RT's....the loudest screw ever i encountered was a RTHB. I especially like how you methodically and slowly brought the current up and allowing it time to stabilize in-between. One of the my favorite videos yet.....and they've all been excellent. Love the channel

Thanks Jason, I had a site with RTHB chillers , the oil baffles had cracked/broken. Replaced and broke again. The noise was horrible, you couldn’t be in the room the harmonics were so bad. Neighbors would complain several blocks away. Chillers finally got replaced.

I had the same problem back in December, the drives has a enable command fault and the tower fans were not coming on. It was a warm day here in central Georgia and they were needed, so I put them in hand and the temp plummeted overnight to the 30s. Next morning both chillers were in alarm for loss of oil and no differential refrigerant pressure. Took me 3 tries of restarting, alarming, then the "no differential refrigerant pressure" timer had to expire before it would let me restart it. 30 minutes each time. Had to get Trane out and reprogram the algorithm for bringing fans on. They had it wrong. It was only looking at one chillers condenser water temp so when it was shutdown, the water was never reaching the enable setpoint of the drive. Great video, I enjoy this type of content.

That’s a good call, RTHD doesn’t like cold condenser water for sure.

R134A screw chillers? Good thing they have the cooling tower drives indoors- I hate seeing those things outside where the heat will get to them.

Yep R134a screws, I prefer them indoors too. Thanks for the comment

Great job that surprised at they didn’t know chiller were off whole week or having problems l operate a #2 YK York 800 ton chiller we have alarm when chiller go off on an warning or any chiller pump and cooling pumps or any other problems we have the in the utility plant l guess that they doing a big project hated when they upgrade and the cause a problem due to the construction.

Yeah EMS doesn’t have alarms enabled at these sites during unoccupied or occupied times, building maintenance has to check physically… Thanks for commenting 👍

Do they not have any economizers for the ahus?

Precoolers being installed with new ahus

I don't know what the money spent limit was with this install, but a water temp control valve operated from the chiller commands can control the condensing temp. along with the VFD's to control feed temp. to the chillers. Also could use a tower by-pass valve that would operate when the VFD gets to 30%.
I probably saud too much as I know that you are a great chiller tech. and you know what you are doing.

Yeah, I know. This is an older installation and unfortunately it was most likely lowest bid. Thanks for the comment 👍

Los of oil at compresor, do You know what is the cause?

    • @subcoolHVAC
      @subcoolHVAC  4 месяца назад

Here it was oil had migrated to condenser with low ambient conditions

    Nice one 👍
Just wondering, does the tower shut the fans off completely passed a low condenser water temperature setpoint ?
Or is there some kind of low ambient proof system .
    Cheers mate 👍.

They do turn off once setpoint is achieved. Minimum speed is 20hz though when signal given to start

@@subcoolHVAC I didn't quite understand why water temp got so low .
I'm kinda slow sometimes to be fair ...

Ambient temperature had dropped into the 40’s which doesn’t happen often here causing the drop. Thanks for the questions!

Are the drives off the chiller or the BAS?

      Independent off the T775 Tstat.

See they have both ABB & Danfoss VFD'S. Good luck with snob nogoodnic ABB tech support. They always gave me the fifth degree when I contacted them. Took me 5 E mails & ten days for ABB to finally tell me how to locate the DC Buss voltage off the touch screen. Asked me no interrogated me why the need to know that. Da have to put it on PM form & use it to trouble shoot. If you have over 655 volts DC Buss voltage on a three phase 480 volt drive then all three line fuses are good and line voltage is not low. Contractor that installed over 50 POS ABB drives kept the manuals. Danfoss tech support never let me down. Wonder what guys think of JCI chiller drives that on our 100HP units used cold water to keep drive from getting too hot. They cut corners by using flimsy plastic water hose fittings for cold water right over the drives. Guess during water leaking would blow up the 480 volt drives.
