I have used the Zebco 33 since I was a kid. I am 59 years old. No matter what they add or take away from the 33. It's a great reel! The Shakespeare reel I bought at Wal-Mart. 2 years ago! Was junk! It was a close faced reel. The button wouldn't work half the time. It finally broke and the plastic button broke. I put a rubber boot on the pin. That thing works like a champ now but the gears are showing finally decided to get a new 33 authentic. Got it for $16.88 at Wal-Mart. Just Now 3.6 ratio not 2.8 like the 404. Most of the time it has 10 pd test on the 33. I will be putting the reel on a Ugly Stick 6'6 medium heavy. Great combo. I have had 3 over 5 pound largemouth bass this season. I use Berkeley low vis green 12 pd mono on the reels I have including spin cast. But I am up grading to braided line next year they wont getboff again.Got my buddy to start fishing again after 18 years.. Welcome back! Now let's go get them Hogs! SHAWN
Caught my PB chain pickerel on a 33, I have many other more expensive reels but my 33 is just fun. Such a stereotyping of reel style, my $169 Zebco Bullet MG is the best reel I own right now, I fish away while the guy next to me untangles the birds nest on his baitcaster, just saying
Landed a 7lb 27 inch steelhead Trout out of lake erie using a 7ft uglystick and a 33 MAX reel with 12lb seaguar invizex fluorocarbon line. Fought/ran like crazy and the drag set was perfect. BUT, try the omega pro-3, it blows the 33 away, hence the $80.00 price sticker, and worth every dollar!
@@nolanbrahosky5908 not the omega pro-3! @ $85 ea. It has 7 ball berrings, casts a country mile, and I have landed a types of fish at 5lbs - 14lbs with no problem! They are absolutely as good as any bait caster on the market! Same with the $100 zebco bullet! They are the real deal, the 33's are OK, but no where near the quality of the zebco omega and bullet.
I don't know why I found this so funny but I hope you do more fishing with the 33 you should try it on a better Rod I don't know why you had such a hard time setting the hook but I would definitely love to see more
I use the zebco omega pro-3! 7 berrings on it handle the monster size hogs! 15lb seaguar floro with a 7ft med action ugly stik as my go too! NEVER LET'S ME DOWN!
Medium to heavy! You won't regret it if you get the big one. I caught a northern pike on a medium heavy 25 pds. It kicked it's Ass. Ugly Stick. Still have it. Shawn

i still have my zebco 33 from 1976 was i was 10 years old, still love that reel. have even caught lots of large snapping turtles with it.

I still have and use my Zebco Omega 33 from 1977. Got it when I was 13. I think its going to out last me.
I have spinning and bait casters and would 10 fold rather fish with my spincast because you spend the most time fishing with it not fix it.

Zebco makes the best spincast reels period the 33 is decent but the omega and bullet are top notch 80 and 100 dollar reels very good drags on them too
