Nice work Roy!!! Good to see somebody else who works in his laneway with limited tools. I've been keeping an eye out for a truck like yours to do the same thing, hard to find one here that hasn't been ravaged by salt . Cheers!
Roy, love this build! I just found your channel today. I have always loved the 67-72 Chevys. Dad had a 68 years ago. Someone removed the wood from the bed and tacked in some steel diamond plats sheet. It made a real nice bed floor. Another favorite channel of mine is J.C Smith Projects. He has shortened several frames. With the standard C-channel frame you can do what you originally thought about doing which would be cut out the rivits and just slide the axle forward. This would have solved 2 problems. 1) no cutting and sectioning of the frame. No matter how good you weld it without fish plates it will never be as strong as a non-cut frame. 2) you could have left the frame run long and now you wouldn't have to extend the rear of the frame. Moving the axle forward would require one final cut now you will have 2 welds. JC Smiths bought a mg drill to drill new holes when he moves an axle forward and he made an adjustable jig for taking measurements. Not trying to be negative on your build at all! I would like to do the same someday! I saw another guy who is manufacturing panels and parts and such to make these into crew cabs.
I agree with you 100% with the frame changing in height where the hangers go on the side of the frame it would not fit on the wide channel and bring the back of the truck up 2" in ride height. So with my budget at the time, I would not have been able to do that, on the flip side, I've driven the truck a lot, and have had no issues, it drives and rides good. Hope to see your build on your channel one day =)
@@RoyMarkosGarageRMG Your frame will be just fine, but you already know that. I prefer the way you went about shortening it over cutting it at a 45°. 50+ years welding and fabricating. Keep up the good work.
@@guy_with_a_car it's a good method, but in my case, the frame changes shape and I would have had to source parts, and so would have cost more in time and money.
Nice build so far …eh Love the pro-ject… and the pro-cess…eh Just messing around, it’s a pretty cool build… I have two 69 Chevy C-10’s and just picked up a 1970 C-50 farm truck that I’m planning on doing something similar, except as a crew cab … and using a more modern chassis from a Duramax powered shuttle bus I acquired recently… Keep burning metal… looks great
love all videos on c-50, greatly appreciate any info. I have a C-40 which Iam about to do the same thing. concerned about drive shaft modification. I will be locating bed location hopefully to stock location. so there will be as your video says about an 1 1/2 difference than yours. so i have too factor that in drive shaft mod. and learn from your videos, dont cut very back of frame till my measurement are more accurate . really good job considering what your working with. all i have is , some basic tools, 4 1/2 grinder with carberandum blades , snap-on hammer chisel, air compressor, basic mechanic hand tools, basic electric power drill, cordless 20 volt Impact. access once again love the videos bro
The back of the frame was cut that short on my truck when I got it, also I am working with basic tools myself, other than a plasma cutter and a good welder, but you can make the cuts with your grinder.
Aw! Man, so hoping it would be a cool flatbed. Oh well, it’s very cool project anyhow! 👍🏽 definitely subbing so I can watch the whole thing and learn from you so I can work on my own C50.
Only thing id add is a Fishmouth plate to that weld on the frame if i shorten mine im moving the whole axle hangers forward thuse just hacking off the extra rail length
Looks cool. Just found your channel, im doing a ‘67 C50 right now but i put it on a 3/4 ton chassis. I want to pick up another and do a frame chop like yours too.
Hey Roy, thanks for reply one thing iam going to do different is , Iam going to remove rivets that keep rear suspension and rear end in place, and just move everything forward. then I dont have to cut in the center of the frame. did you use cell phone for videos or ......? I guess I should make a video when I get started, I think I will start on it December first , i hope so
The first video I watched you said it was to rough and you was going to spend a little more and get a cleaner truck. What changed your mind about buying it?
Yes, and I was going to let it go, but the more i looked for another truck that was in my budget, it turned out they were all about the same shape, and sometimes worse, and after working with it, it grew on me, and I decided to keep it.
Nice work Roy. That frame is good enough to do anything you would need to do with it. Neat looking rig for sure. Will you be putting fender flares on the pickup bed?
Why didn't you use timbers to lift your box like you would for a box you'd put on the frame. I think it's gonna be a lot quieter if you use timbers, in my opinion.
Nice to see Mike . Haven seen him since 1981 when I came to airbrush a bunch of vans for him .
Yes, I will let him know you are watching his videos.
Convertible bed 😅 love the truck!
lol it's not going to be a convertible too much longer.
Your truck is awesome Ray. I’ve seen some folks use the HD composite decking in the bed. Cheers
that’s cool. I did find a bed for it. thanks Lloyd.

Yes, got to be handy with what you have. I wish you the best of luck with finding one... especially without the salt factor.
Very nice. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, glad you like it. and thanks for watching.
Everything is looking great Roy. I like how you lifted the bed and the body lines look good too. Cheers
the lift was my way to keep the cost down, and also make it so others could do the same.

looking great roy, keep working, and hope you'll have something nice to drag cars around soon.
Thanks, she's fun to work on.
I would be bolting some heavy plates on the inside of the frame -over your welds -keep it all from flexing at your welds.
I do have plans to box that section of the frame, but so far the frame does not move.

That's gonna be a nice going to town rig
That it will.
Thanks for these C50 videos. I also have a C50 flat bed dump that I have been thinking about modifying . Mines is more of a apache than yours!
You're welcome, at least with the cab it's the same sheet metal as for the c10. Apache here, apache there.

Ya better eat your spinach so you can make the lift to put stuff on the bed.
Happy Motoring.
I had the high dodge so I got some practice.
A storage slide out would be great in that space
yes it would be, but probably not right now

If you do shorten yours, let me know and I'll watch the video. =) More to do on this truck.
No matter how you slice it, this truck has got to be the coolest, baddest, manliest pickup truck in the world !!!
It's a lot of fun, and pretty cool too.

sounds great drop me a line on facebook.
2 sheets of 1/4" deck plate does a pretty good bed floor ???
It could do, but I'm going to use an original steel floor for the bed.
Its coming along
Yeah I was really happy to have that progress

sounds like a good plan, I use both a camera, and a cell phone and a amazon tripod which holds both. Good luck and let me know when your video is up
I am very impressed with your work .
What year truck , is the bed from. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you, the bed is from a 1968 chevy 3/4 ton, and it fits okay after I shortened the c50.
What truck bed did you use?

Thus far I don't have noise, and am happy with how it turned out. Still more to do when I put the new box floor in
What year C10 bed is this?.
Thanks
The box turned out nice, looks like it belongs with the truck
Thanks, yes it did
Z cuts are the strongest way for shortening a frame especially on these bigger trucks a 45 degree will fail
It's been a good solid truck since the cuts, and issues.
I wanna get one and put a 383 in it and put a bed like that in it too
go for it! and let me know how it goes.
@@RoyMarkosGarageRMG it's easy until your broke and have no where 2 put it

1968 chevy box
Does it have the 2 piece rims?
Yes it does, and the back wheels don't match but has the widow makers in the front and the split wheels in the back.
You will be the only one on your block with one...
