Thanks! See you later!
What got me into black metal was the mentioned _Ulver - Bergtatt._ It's very melodic with beautiful acoustic passages and throat-ripping shreaks and blast beats.
Samael's "Ceremony of Opposites" is probably a better jumping off point into black metal. And it came out within seven days of In The Nightside Eclipse. There's also Satyricon's first three albums which are also relatively "easy" to get into, by Black Metal standards.
I hope one day you do a classic review of Burzum’s Filosofem. It’s the most otherworldly thing I’ve ever heard and it’s so beautiful. I get there’s a lot of murder and racism controversy around Burzum, but it would still be an amazing and informative review

Great review man! I've said it before but I wish you'd do more metal reviews. Your descriptive analyses would lend themselves well to so many other metal classics, new and old. Keep up the good work!
This is probably one of my favorite albums and I love the art work on the cover. But one thing il point out out is that the early EPs of Emporer are definitely more lo fi of course but its still sounds more clean then other bands in the genre. And I think that is still a big turning point in this type of music for this band a a whole. But overall great album.
I love your reviews - one suggestion from me is show us music clips of what you're describing/comparing so uninitiated listeners can understand the context... I wanna be there with you man
Been watching your reviews since 2012 and just found out you did a classic review of one of my highest ranked black metal albums of all time. Anthems to the Welkin is another bonafide classic though, but every one of their albums is great
I cannot recommend Ihsahn's (guitarist/vocalists of emperor) solo work enough. Black/prog metal at it's finest. Would love to see your review of Arktis.
Vinterland, Woods of Ypres, Vektor, Carach Angren, early Opeth, Enslaved (Axioma Ethica Odini and RIITIIR). Some of the first entrances to Black Metal I listened to...
I like this album. I used to own this on CD but someone stole the disc during a party and for some reason decided not to take the case itself. The case still has a honorary place on my shelf, although it does not contain a actual disc. This was over 10 years ago. Why have I not replaced it in all these years? I don't know.
And Ihsahn still makes great music as a solo artist. Also, y'all should check out the band he had with his wife, Peccatum. Their third album is one of my favorites
Black metal got me into Ambiental Music - Burzum's Filosofem is really something, the only 'low-fi' album that I'd defend do Death. I've never listened to Emperor. Will give it a shot right now.
I´ve been into metal for 10 years, yet I could never really bring myself to like emperor, and I can´t even tell you why. As far as "getting into" Black Metal, my recommendation would be to start with watain/dissection, or even summoning which is one of my personal favorites. Very accessible as far as Black Metal goes. However I don´t know whether someone who rarely listens to metal will ever get into that kind of music. For me - and most metal-listeners I know - liking "extreme metal" has been a process, meaning I started out with hammerfall or freedom call when I was 12/13 and gradually slipped into the harder stuff. When I first heard a Death Metal Track when I was 14 it shocked me and I couldn´t understand how anyone would ever listen to that, but after a while you get used to screaming, double-bass-drums, tremolo-picking and all that jazz. It´s a process, don´t expect to be able to appreciate extreme music right off the bat, that´ll work for only a very small percentage of people I think. Also, Anthony, please do Caronte´s "Church of Shamanic Goetia", it´s otherworldly.
How can you like Dissection and not Emoperor. Also there’s no reason to listen to Watain when you can just listen to Dissection. I’m a summoning fan too!
@@Whocares1987 Because Emperor is more dissonant, less "groovy", vocals are more shrieky. Don't get me wrong, I love both bands but I do prefer Dissection more.
Amazing black metal album. It brings me back to my high school days living along a twisty, winding farm road covered in trees. It was one of my favorite albums to blast in my pick up truck back then. It also influenced the music I helped to create later, especially vocally, with my band NUTRITION.

Thus Spake the Nightspirit has one of my favorite guitar riffs EVER
i would recommend reviewing the prodigy's The Fat of The Land. such an iconic, charismatic and genre bending album
Emperor. FINALLY SOMETHING GOOD
Great review man! I've said it before but I wish you'd do more metal reviews. Your descriptive analyses would lend themselves well to so many other metal classics, new and old. Keep up the good work!
That album art is great!
Makes me want to go play the middle earth card game from 1995
still patiently awaiting a most anticipated albums of 2017 list
Tom Waits and now Emperor?! Dude!!!!
Love the fact you reviewed one of my favourite albums growing up in a entertaining, witty and thought provoking fashion. Nice one geeza
How about Rush's 2112 to conclude the week of classics?
Mr.Pat Or A Return to Kings or Hemispheres or Parallel Lines or Moving Pictures .. lol ; )
Thank you for reviewing this
I love your reviews - one suggestion from me is show us music clips of what you're describing/comparing so uninitiated listeners can understand the context... I wanna be there with you man
Review the Pink Season
Been watching your reviews since 2012 and just found out you did a classic review of one of my highest ranked black metal albums of all time. Anthems to the Welkin is another bonafide classic though, but every one of their albums is great
cool cat loves black metal
I cannot recommend Ihsahn's (guitarist/vocalists of emperor) solo work enough. Black/prog metal at it's finest. Would love to see your review of Arktis.
I better see a Pink season Reveille next week
Vinterland, Woods of Ypres, Vektor, Carach Angren, early Opeth, Enslaved (Axioma Ethica Odini and RIITIIR). Some of the first entrances to Black Metal I listened to...
This is more than just a great black metal album. In the Nightside Eclipse is one of the greatest hard rock albums to be released.
It would be if it was hard rock
It’s a beautiful record.
I like this album. I used to own this on CD but someone stole the disc during a party and for some reason decided not to take the case itself. The case still has a honorary place on my shelf, although it does not contain a actual disc. This was over 10 years ago. Why have I not replaced it in all these years? I don't know.
do pink guys new album next please
And Ihsahn still makes great music as a solo artist. Also, y'all should check out the band he had with his wife, Peccatum. Their third album is one of my favorites
do pink season
Goddamn, been waiting for this review for a year. Killer review Anthony!
Can you please review Reign in Blood
Or a Nick Cave record
Didn't see this review coming. One of the best from Norwegian Black Metal.
I think classic reviews should be watched by more people. Also, stop asking for fucking Pink Season please.
Black metal got me into Ambiental Music - Burzum's Filosofem is really something, the only 'low-fi' album that I'd defend do Death. I've never listened to Emperor. Will give it a shot right now.
True fans know Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is better
trve*
Ivan Malek YES!
trve that, but the impact of In the Nightside Eclipse on the whole black metal scene is greater
Ivan Malek no, just no. Idk why but I always hated their second album, it's imo their weakest album in discography
ayy nice V - Halmstad pic, very underrated album
this album gives me goosebumps every time
Do _Emergency & I_.
REVIEW PINK SEASON
Amazing black metal album. It brings me back to my high school days living along a twisty, winding farm road covered in trees. It was one of my favorite albums to blast in my pick up truck back then. It also influenced the music I helped to create later, especially vocally, with my band NUTRITION.
6:14 sounds like disturbeds down with the sickness.
I've been waiting for so long for this review!!!
DOPESMOKER WHEN?
Dopethrone*
Anthony you should review some underground black metal. I'd love to hear what you think about some of the most inaccessible black metal out there such as Black Cilice or Vlad Tepes
