Su material siempre ha sido un deleite, su musica es como un Opeth mas oscuro (si escuchaste los primeros discos de opeth sabrás a lo que me refiero), una excelente ejecución instrumental.

Judas Priest played after Emperor, so they were definitely a worthy headliner. Emperor have headlined before, but I was pretty happy to see them again, just before Priest. It was just as awesome in the scorching sun as it was at night.
When this first came out in 1997, i fell in love with it but told myself there was no way this would make a great live set. The interplay between Samoth and Ihsahn, the overall sound, the complexity of the ensemble. It could all tumble into a sad mash pretty fast. Dont forget this was almost unheard of back then. Away from what was around (the Marduk, Immortal, Dark Funeral...). Away from Nightside Eclipse, too. Cradle of Filth had symphonic vibes, but a much thrashier and simpler base, Limbonic Art wasnt a live act and Arcturus hadnt released their Masquerade yet. Then they just played it... The f'ck..just master performers
Seriously, probably one of the best mixes i've heard for a live metal show. It's right up there with Wintersun, who actually sounded better than their album when I saw them after Time I released.
Think I saw them 4-5 times back in the day. Always the most mysterious band, not to mention their incredible musicality and power house of a band . So raw and technically brilliant
I had the pleasure of being there and all I wanted was to watch, listen and pay attention. To be fair I recorded 2 short video clips but that's it. I was standing there thinking "fuck, I'm really watching/hearing Emperor live".

It's great they still tour this stuff for the fans even though they've all gone off to do their own things. It's nice they don't see their origins as beneath them like a lot of musicians who move on to other things might.
I havent been into metal in any form for about 20 years, but respect Emperor so much. They are like a thunderstorm. Controlled chaos. Scary. Beautiful. Poetic. Heavy. Magical. Melodic. Thunderous.
Music that defends itself without any theatrical wizardry! Though I drifted away from black metal to electronic genres, but never drifted away from Emperor. Emperor is among my favorite bands, I respected them and I always will. Great to see them playing live! \m/

Might as well recommend Emperor or Helloween and those are two completely different worlds. But if someone would like to broaden his musical horizons I would recommend staring from classics, where it all started. Timewind by Klaus Schulze or Phaedra by Tangerine Dream.

Anthems to the Welking at Dusk and IX Equilibrium were the weeks most sold albums when they came out in Finland. Top of the billboard. Crazy times. I was a thirteen years old brat. Still love them to death.
There is such a magical atmospheric feeling to this entire album Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. ITNE is also classic, but Anthems really feels like their peak, the songwriting is absolutely perfect!
I got real close for this one, Anthems is one of my favourite albums ever (metal or non-metal) so I had to see this up close. It's such an overwhelmingly powerful record and the band did a superb job showing that at BOA.
William Sullivan The bass player is pretty good, no doubt about that. But to me, before the neck injuries got to him, the king of head banging is Tom Araya.

I saw Ihsahn in London back in 1999 with no hair! :D Their music still does the trick with In the Nighstide Eclipse and Anthems to the welkin at dusk albums. True black metal. No current bands can reach this level of quality Emperor managed to setup in the first place.
You actually saw that legendary live show, that was recorded into a dvd? WIth Ihsahn bald and sporting a white sweater? They play Ye Entrancemperium as a show closer and Trym nearly explodes in the end, it's just way too damn fast. Great show!
I've seen ALOT of live shows in my time and there's only a few that stands out from the rest that ill never forget and bring up in conversations all the time and 1 of those shows was an emperor show back in 01. It was at this tiny bar but the sound was absolutely amazing to the point of it being almost hypnotizing.......A few others that make that list are Absu and prob my favorite show of all time the rebirth of dissection show I was so lucky to get to go to.....what an amazing show.
I have a few other songs from some black metal artists that I enjoy but I can't say I'm a black metal fan. I actually tried to like a lot of black metal but nothing compares to Emperor and especially to In The Nightside Eclipse. I love this so much I don't even know how to describe it.
That's because this stuff is pre recorded, most bands do it...they don't actually play live...Kreator got embarrassed few years back, when the music of the playback stopped and they left the stage beacause the crowd started yelling...you can find it on internet.
Wow. This is my first hearing them. I am going to get beaten for saying this, but they have a romantic sound underneath a dark Thrash death metal vibe. It's like slayer/blue oyster cult/anthrax/six feet under/king diamond had a love child with a drunk happy Viking getting pumped for his hopeful last war taking him to valhala. Extremely talented musicians, almost controlled chaos to perfection. Each one could play anything better then most it appears ...but choose this. If that isn't art I don't know what is. Btw...You can tell the bands they have influenced over 30 years. Pretty sure system of a down and a few others would not exist.

An amazing band, an amazing performance. Trym was the first metal drummer who really made a big impression on me. As a metal drummer myself I just love his raw and bestial style of playing, far from the academy trained dillholes of today who play like machines, fast and even but without any soul. This is real metal.
This might be the first Emperor record, where one can not only hear bass guitar, but actual notes played. It's a shame it's so faded on albums. Those lines are soooo well written and performed. Also, stunning performance as always.

You can get that effect by bending the note and using a wah pedal. It sounds like he did that to me.

Wow. This is my first hearing them. I am going to get beaten for saying this, but they have a romantic sound underneath a dark Thrash death metal vibe. It's like slayer/blue oyster cult/anthrax/six feet under/king diamond had a love child with a drunk happy Viking getting pumped for his hopeful last war taking him to valhala. Extremely talented musicians, almost controlled chaos to perfection. Each one could play anything better then most it appears ...but choose this. If that isn't art I don't know what is. Btw...You can tell the bands they have influenced over 30 years. Pretty sure system of a down and a few others would not exist.

for me there are better black metal bands like Mayhem Burzum Behemoth and more but they were and still are legends but i don't like the clean vocals

One of the greatest live performances I was ever witness to.
An amazing band, an amazing performance. Trym was the first metal drummer who really made a big impression on me. As a metal drummer myself I just love his raw and bestial style of playing, far from the academy trained dillholes of today who play like machines, fast and even but without any soul. This is real metal.
Listen to the Emperial livr ceremony DVD. Trym was a fucking machine back then.

This might be the first Emperor record, where one can not only hear bass guitar, but actual notes played. It's a shame it's so faded on albums. Those lines are soooo well written and performed.
Also, stunning performance as always.
Once you get used to the production on those demos and in the nightside, the composition becomes clear and boy are they masterpieces
Emperor are a legend band for people that know history of Norwegian black metal!in the nightside eclipse for me is on top 5 ever made black metal albums
