I am of the view that there were 2 separate beings in the garden. Genesis 3 does say the serpent is a beast of the field and its offspring were cursed to become snakes. But Ezekiel 28 says Satan is a type of angel and was there as well. So Satan found a creature he could convince and use for his purposes. Not all angels look human, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Satan had some reptile like features, along with his wings (as he was a thrown room angel and they seem to be the ones with wings).
