Wow, you got such great flower spikes! Oncidium Sharry Baby is among the easiest orchids to grow, very good for orchid beginers. Mine dosen't ask anything special to bloom, temperature-wise. Just a West-facing window with shade in late-Spring and Summer, full afternoon Sun the rest of the year. It dosen't take rest either. It is currently producing a spike and three new growth, all from the same pseudo-bulb. It makes roots like crazy. You will get more flowers more often if you don't divide your Oncidium.
+Brads Greenhouse Great video Brad just a few questions. Does it need the drop in temperature at night to grow a new bulb or just the spike? Id like to grow this indoors but i live in Texas. Don't get very large differences in temperature until winter and late fall. I'd also like a recommendation as to what you think would grow well in Texas? :)
Thanks for this information. Received this Orchid as a present. It's very lovely and I just wanted to make sure how to care for it and try to keep it alive without killing it. Now I have some very helpful information and tips. Will report back in a few months.
hi Julia, if not growing in a greenhouse. I would put it in a clear plastic, inflated and sealed bag with a bit of moist spagh moss. Keep it out of direct sun. Roots will be a slow recovery I'm afraid.
Great video! Very, very helpful! Thanks Brad, really this was so helpful to me and I've found that I love Oncidiums. They not only look very pretty but I've found that many of them have an incredibly strong scent!
I have the same problem a Julia. I carelessly over watered it and lost the roots on the older growth. I'm hopping the younger growth survive during the process. I just recently put it in the smallest clay pot till it recovers.
Thank you Brad. I tried bringing the pot outside before I divided them, but the leaves turned yellow. It was March then, maybe it was too cold or too much light? I brought it back in door, and it seems greener now. What fertilizer do you use? I use 20-20-20, and I have 10-30-20, which is the blossom booster. Should I use 10-30-20 instead?
Hi Brad, I have a yellow oncidium (the dancing lady) for about a year at this point. It kept growing lots of Pseudobulbs, but they're small bulbs. I got about 11 new bulbs so far. though none of them seem to grow as big as the bulb that got flower spike last year. It has grown so big I had to divide it into three plants (mainly because some of the bulbs are growing outside of the pot). What should I do to make the bulb grow bigger instead of more? btw, your video was helpful.
like always you are great... thank you for all your videos, i just order this orchid to add in my collection and i will see if i will get luck with it or not :)
Keep mine outside in my mango tree it blooms approx twice a year for me. The problem is my leaves ate almost a lighter green with spots on it. What should I do? It hasn't affected its growth as its in bloom now but I was worried as to why are there small spots on the leaves and whay should I do to correct this
hello brad, i have an oncidium that needs saving it is still green but it doesnt have any roots what would you recommend or suggest for my situation? please and thank you
Thank you Brad! One question: I just bought an Oncidium from a supermarket. As usual from a supermarket, the potting media seems rather low quality. I want to change it right away, but am concerned about the shock that the blooming plant will get. The roots are so thin they look very fragile. What would you suggest?
Thanks for the video but do you water the oncidiums the same way summer/winter ? How can we do when plants are in a condo with heating ? thanks for the answers
All of your videos are helpful. THere is only one problem. You tell us what you do with your orchids, which involves taking them out to the greenhouse. Well, most of us do not have a greenhouse. What do we do?
You don't have much vids on oncidiums.by the way you said that the flowers only comes from New bulbs.so what will happen to the old ones? If it didn't die off and new ones keep comingill run out of space.I'm New.pardon my ignorance
Juliana Wong : First, it can sometimes take 10 days after opening for the flowers' scent to appear. (Unlikely but possible.) Second, if the air is dry in the room, the scent will be weak. Last, it smells most in late-morning till the afternoon, when light is brightest.
Hi Brad! Thanks for the information. I bought a sharry baby sweet fragrance a couple months ago that was in bloom with two more spikes (it's a very good size plant). The chocolate scent was very strong at the market, but since I brought it home, I don't smell anything at all. Do you have an explanation or theory as to why there's no scent?
So, it starts producing spikes after the bulb is mature and fleshed out? I have 4 growths on mine and I keep worrying that they're not going to bloom but they haven't gotten bulbous yet so maybe it's just too early.
***** I was about to tell you that there are three new baby growths coming from the old new growths with no signs of spikes.. but when I went out and looked at it I found a spike just poking through! =D One other thing, the leaves on mine are light green with some black speckling. I read that black speckling could be the oncidium's way of burning and another thing said that Sharry baby's are prone to black speckling. Do you have this with yours?
Yay, that is great news! It is about the right time of year for oncidiums. My sharrys have light green leaves with a few black spots two. Black spots may be from to much sun you say?
***** Oncidium just are prone to making black dots on the leaves. It is nothing to worry about. It's not Sunburning. The Sharry Baby is particularity prone to making those black dots, other Oncidium less so.
I have a small one now that is blooming! I used to have one that was huge and lost it after a move. Smells amazing!!!!! Tons of blooms
I'm so thrilled that I got one in the mail today!
I just bought one today from my local orchid nursery. Only has a spike growing no flowers yet. So excited! 😍😍
I just purchased an oncidium heaven scent, which is a variety of sharry baby. Thank you very much for the videos on how to care for these beauties.
You're welcome!
I just got one today and oh my, the aroma is amazing.

Gene, what SCENTED oncidiums do you have, and what do they smell like (citrus, woodsy, light floral, sweet/gardenia, etc. Thank you so much!
They smell like hyacinths. I don't know the particular type though, sorry. I did just buy a Sharry Baby.
Just bought one of these yesterday. Amazing scent and visuals!
I have the same problem a Julia. I carelessly over watered it and lost the roots on the older growth. I'm hopping the younger growth survive during the process. I just recently put it in the smallest clay pot till it recovers.
Just a guess but if say less moisture in the bag. Don't let the bag touch the plant if possible .
Beautiful plant. I wish I had smellovision :)
I would love to have one, but unfortunatelly I can't find one in my area.
Thank you! Very informative video and a nice sharry baby :)

Hi! How do you keep the orchid in the plastic bag from rotting? I haven't had much luck with that method so far.
hi Brad I have a sharry baby and was wondering how long it needes to be at 55 degrees just a couple of night or longer?

hint of chocolate and vanilla....yes, you will smell it as soon as you step out of your house in the morning, so sweet, and so subtle.
hello brad, i have an oncidium that needs saving it is still green but it doesnt have any roots what would you recommend or suggest for my situation? please and thank you

Hi I just bought a Hwra. Lava Burst 'Puanani' I'm told they are fairly easy to grow. Have you tried this kind? if so any tips?

old bulbs are used for energy storage, they last 2-3 more years after flowering.
Great! I'll try that. Thank you
Agreed... :)
now my Sharry Baby rebloom with lot of flowers, but has no scent at all. Do you know why?
