But as much as technology has advanced since the 1960s now, imagine 200-250 years further into the future. That said, "back then" the terminology of "taped music" or "taped audio" was most often slang for recorded music or recorded audio, which, even on a CD or mp3 or any other digital format, the audio had to be recorded for it to exist in digital form. The movie "Lincoln" with Daniel Day Lewis is perfection. That Lincoln is the one I imagined in my mind. I don't think I have ever seen an Actor better portray someone from history.
Lincoln was beaten by his dad as a child. Then his father would dress everyone up on Sunday morning for church. He grew up hating God. He carried a Bible as a young adult so he would be asked about it and he could start an argument. Eventually God used him in a mighty way. Abe Lincoln became a believer despite his childhood and he rose to the Presidency. A great man. He believed the Civil War was God’s judgment for the sin of slavery.

thunder bolt First of all, no it isn't. Secondly, how do you know I wasn't talking to him? I talk to him all the time. Thirdly, god isn't his name, it's his species. yahweh is his name. And most importantly (and I said this already) the commandment in question is a prohibition against breaking an oath made in the name of god. If you haven't sworn an oath then you can't be breaking one, can you? Open your bible once in a while before you make people hate us believers even more with your blasphemous ignorance of what it says
thunder bolt You get to heaven by believing Jesus died for you. It helps to look a few things up about ancient hebrew culture. A lot of the bible was written with things they already understood. The phrase "taking a name" means to swear an oath by someone. It doesn't mean 'saying a name'. Unfortunately over time the jews developed their own equally incorrect taboo about this commandment, and believed it meant to never say 'yahweh' at ALL. Even though we know for a fact Moses said it and various other people said it.. and it's right there in the bible to read aloud. But even so, 'god' isn't his name. it's a german word that germans were using long before they ever heard of the god of abraham isaac and jacob. And it isn't smart to edit your behavior "just in case" someone might think you're sinning. That's the way of pharisees and saducees, and it makes religion look terrible to everyone with any sense.
thunder bolt I didn't say 'know', I said 'believe'. The demons _know_ it happened. That's why god can't just prove stuff, then it's no longer faith, it's knowledge. A computer can know facts, only a human soul can hold beliefs.

The problem with this scene is when Scotty is talking to McCoy about what he locked onto. A device that has to discriminate down to the atom and it couldn't tell if the living rock was Lincoln or something standing next to him. I realize its a plot device, but really.
“At my age” Lincoln was a skilled fighter and I’m not talking about the vampire thing. He wasn’t in the best of shape while in office, but given that this is the Enterprise, he could probably take out a good chunk of security in hand to hand combat.
Maybe they should have told Lincoln that when he got back, it would be in his best interest to stay away from every theatre and to never let any man named John near him.
Actually, Security Officer Dickerson is a sly, indirect reference by Roddenberry to Lincoln's personal bodyguard and companion between September 1862 and April 1863 (they shared a bed during the absences of Lincoln's wife), Captain David Derickson (he had a dick like a derrick), with whom some historians theorize (amply endowed are they with more than sufficient circumstantial evidence) Lincoln had a homosexual relationship.

First of all, no it isn't.
Open your bible once in a while before you make people hate us believers even more with your blasphemous ignorance of what it says
thunder bolt
You get to heaven by believing Jesus died for you.
That's the way of pharisees and saducees, and it makes religion look terrible to everyone with any sense.
thunder bolt
I didn't say 'know', I said 'believe'. The demons _know_ it happened. That's why god can't just prove stuff, then it's no longer faith, it's knowledge. A computer can know facts, only a human soul can hold beliefs.
Lincoln arrives not in a horse-drawn buggy but a 23rd Century transporter. How cool!
Back in the day, when broadcast TV ruled the universe. With cameo's by Captian Christopher USAF, Abraham Lincoln and Ron Howard's little brother Clint, Salut ! With a cup of Tranya !
Rex Hamilton as Abraham Lincoln
I got that reference.
Tape music in the middle of the 22nd century, lol. That's real cutting edge technology.
I wonder what Mr. Lincoln thought about his good name being stripped from a San Francisco high school by a fashionably sanctimonious school board?
Social(ist) Justice
if it is good and wholesome it must be removed so that degeneracy can be accelerated.
I expect he would acknowledge that, like his predecessors, some of his efforts and opinions would turn out, upon future reflection, to have been misguided.
I'm unfamiliar with this. What had happened?
Well, Abe was just floating out there, in his chair. You never know who you're going to run into, in space.
Funny how Lincoln just walks for the door and is not surprised when it opens for him.
When I saw this on television I stood up and applauded
Taped music? In the 23rd century? Fascinating!
Fascination (1983) The Human League
The man that's playing President Abraham Lincoln in the 1980s he was in the miniseries North and South the miniseries with Patrick Swayze he played a Frenchman that owned a plantation in South Carolina and in Louisiana
Were you born in 1518?
I like the old Starship Enterprise episodes to watch fascinating 🖖😀👍
Lincoln called Spock and McCoy by name before the introductions.
@Mr. Al I think Gestapo was referring to the fact that in this scene, it doesn't appear that Lincoln should have known their names yet, as he was just beamed aboard.
Interesting heh????????;-)
Poor Lincoln has to be greeted with guns pointed at him aboard the Enterprise.
Seems he can't catch a break!
Lincoln is asking questions that would not be in his mind. Due to no knowledge of future technology
Such as?
He literally lost his brains back in 1865
*Security has guns pointed at him.
Lincoln: ‘oh no, it’s the theatre booth seen all over again.’
‘Please lower them.’
‘Please clap.’
Crew members in line of fire
"Oh no. It's the theater booth scene all over again."
I see what you did there....
"What was that play about again?"
Mr Spock would have to explain 'tape ' to modern generation.
I'm reminded of a time, about 20 years ago, I mentioned to a teen coworker that my Mom still had a working rotary phone. His reply was, "What's a rotary phone?"
If it was Nixon, he'd well understand!
The next Star Trek sequel should center around this incarnation of Lincoln.
Intelligence supersedes fear any day! We have a long way to go ladies and gentlemen!
We are honor to have you aboard, Mr. President. Don't mind the phasers pointed at you.
…unless it is a Klingon or John Wilkes Booth!
He mentioned spok before he was introduced to him + he knew that the doors would open for him
There are very few images of Lincoln, actually wearing that style of hat.
There are also very few images of him with a beard.
This scene with the beautiful nichell nickols is deep. .....
Taped music. The future is archaic. :-)
Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter the movie is more plausible and realistic than this episode he is in.
As soon as "Mr. Dickerson" was introduced I knew he was dead meat lol
The problem with this scene is when Scotty is talking to McCoy about what he locked onto. A device that has to discriminate down to the atom and it couldn't tell if the living rock was Lincoln or something standing next to him. I realize its a plot device, but really.
Kirk: so would you like to attend a play that the crew put together?
Lincoln: ... No thanks
"Taped music, you say? Perhaps Mr. Spock can explain why it's not streaming."
Abe: Tell your men to lower those weapons or I might just show off my famous wrestling skills and kick their posteriors.
I loved this episode. It was like the Deadliest Warrior
Why is this content restricted? Did RUclips really not learn the lesson the Uhura was trying to teach?
Looks like during the beam up, the President shrunk about 4 inches. Shatner is 5'10" and Lincoln was 6'4".
Tapes? In the late 23rd century? Reel to Reel, 8-Track, or compact cassettes?
One of my top 5 fave episodes
“At my age” Lincoln was a skilled fighter and I’m not talking about the vampire thing. He wasn’t in the best of shape while in office, but given that this is the Enterprise, he could probably take out a good chunk of security in hand to hand combat.
Maybe they should have told Lincoln that when he got back, it would be in his best interest to stay away from every theatre and to never let any man named John near him.
Or to get a body guard who wasnt a drunk.
The actor that played Lincoln really looked like the man himself.
Much too short... but 6'4" actors that can do Lincoln properly are far and few between...
@@harrykadaras9459 (spoiler) I really liked Lincoln. It was upsetting to see him die again.
Officer Dickerson's soooo dead.
Actually, Security Officer Dickerson is a sly, indirect reference by Roddenberry to Lincoln's personal bodyguard and companion between September 1862 and April 1863 (they shared a bed during the absences of Lincoln's wife), Captain David Derickson (he had a dick like a derrick), with whom some historians theorize (amply endowed are they with more than sufficient circumstantial evidence) Lincoln had a homosexual relationship.
ive loved star trek ever since it aired in the 60s and i always liked this episode, lincoln was such a kind humble man in this episode and he wanted to talk to the crew and greet all of them, as a kid i remember being so sad when he was killed , , , , that nasty col. green was such a back stabber how fitting that he actually got stabbed in the back at the end , absolute wonderful tv show!
help me kirk....
Security Officer Dickerson - without him, and his endless supply of red shirts, Kirk would have died on his first mission ...
The second part of this episode was never aired. President Lincoln freed the slaves of Rigel 10. And there was much rejoicing.
I like this one this was my favorite too
Next time on Star Trek: Donald Trump beams aboard the Enterprise... xD
let him go, let him go, let him go!!!!! For WORLD GOOD and for ours!!!!!
Well he and William Shatner have the same Barber.
He would make Star Trek great again
You are wrong. You are the problem.
They'd quickly beam him back out into space.
What did Lincoln say after he awoke from his drunken stupor? "I freed who?"
We are honored, Mr President. Please, don't mind the weapons that are pointed at you.
Lincoln man of future
this way Mr. President. The rest of the mock spaceship set is through these doors that stage hands will open and close for us. Oh dont worry, a whooshing sound will be added later to the final film edit.
Mr. Dickerson needs his own episode
he is very intersting
Did he even survive this episode ? Wearing a red shirt often indicated an untimely, early demise.
He plays a mean whistle.

The Savage Curtain is one of the better season 3 episodes.
A true statesman
