A race that lives by logic, here demonstrates emotion is at work, just guised as if it's not. Spock chose Starfleet as the best place to fit in where there are various races. Woo HOO salute to the baddest mamma jamma around the 1 the only Captain Kirk played by William Shatner whom has successfully went into space as I write this.. Yeah I’m late on the date but this popped up in my feed and I loved this show as a kid. I’m 56 now and Shatner is 90. Loved the double fisted smacks to the back, and the ship wall jumps on the attackers. I wasn’t ever stupid enough to try these as a kid. I knew about stuntmen and other such things in shows. Sci Fi nut at heart and salute to Bill and the gang.
What I don't get is why didn't they just tap Spock for a couple of pints, clone however much they needed and simply filtered out the human factors? Wouldn't it make sense to keep some in stasis for emergencies that require a massive blood transfusion?
I’m surprised that Kirk didn’t put 2 and 2 together and realize that Sarek and Amanda were Spock’s parents. I mean, Kirk knew that Spock was half Vulcan and half human, and there can’t have been that many inter species marriages with Vulcans, especially with humans.
wasnt there a time when Spock told (nurse chapel maybe?) that his last name was almost unpronounceable by humans? it is entirely likely Sarek is just listed as Sarek on most documents, and Spock is just listed as Spock on most documents, for ease of the humancentric federation.
Sarek is my fave character, and I am currently reading a novel bout him. I was looking earlier tonight to see which of the ST shows have Vulcans in the main cast. Only TOS, ENT, SNW, & VOY. This got me thinking that the predominant species in any show is human. Virtually all captains are human. What if they did a ST show that did not have humans? Are Federation vessels required to have humans on them?
joem jackson Kirk never needed to ask any of his crew about their families, they would have to tell him themselves. As far as Kirk goes, he only needs to know his crew one on one.
I know you asked this a long time ago lol.....but with them being estranged it's most likely Spock never brought up the issue of his parents with Kirk.
OK. Vulcans in general and Spock in particular do not like to talk about their private lives, but maybe Spock could have given Kirk a heads-up: the ambassador is my father and (maybe) he is not so happy I serve in Starfleet. After all, it would come up soon or later.
Where is the logic in not having his son do the tour? Not returning Spock's salute while returning McCoy's? While he says "prefer", that is just a euphemism for "I can't stand Spock". Which irrational thought of Sarek's about some past or present event(s) is causing this irrational emotion which is causing this irrational response? Certainly not logic. This is Star Trek's straw man against logic. Logic does not tell us to be unemotional - that would suppress joy. It shows us how to dampen painful, self-defeating emotions which are not cause by logic, but by irrational beliefs and thoughts. If you want to learn how to control self-defeating emotions and pain so you can blossom and have more joy, study rational psychotherapy, REBT, originated by Dr Albert Ellis, and its spinoff, CBT, originated by Dr Aaron Beck and popularized by Dr David Burns.
Even though this presents a plot hole it still is a good episode. Hard to believe that given Spock's history that no one in Starfleet or even the Commanding Officers he served with would have any record of who Sarek and Amanda were in relation to Spock prior to this meeting, especially given who Sarek is.
"There's something wrong about a man who never smiles, whose conversation never varies from the routine of the job, and who won't talk about his background," said Doctor McCoy. "I see," said Mr. Spock. From "I, Mudd" regarding Mr. Norman who would reveal himself as an android when he takes over the ship.

One of the best episodes by far and the andorian spy went on to be a barber and a member of the feared black windows motor cycle gang in 2 Clint Eastwood movies
I like how the red shirt security detail marches in with confidence. All... except the last one who knows what happens to red shirts when they are sent to meet anyone... They get killed. So... The last guy delays his willingness to greet the ambassador's arrival. Thus... He is late.
This back and days of Star trek
Woo HOO salute to the baddest mamma jamma around the 1 the only Captain Kirk played by William Shatner whom has successfully went into space as I write this..
Yeah I’m late on the date but this popped up in my feed and I loved this show as a kid. I’m 56 now and Shatner is 90. Loved the double fisted smacks to the back, and the ship wall jumps on the attackers. I wasn’t ever stupid enough to try these as a kid. I knew about stuntmen and other such things in shows. Sci Fi nut at heart and salute to Bill and the gang.
2:28 Sarek salutes McCoy and McCoy looks at his hand like it doesn't belong to him and he can't figure out what to do with it ...
Thankfully I can do the salute-left handed though.
That was perfect. 😂
Great effects for TOS!
Spock could have 10, 20 more relatives he never told anyone about. We don't know!
Well One of them is on Nimbus III
1:44 - Helluva time to ask, Bones!
Lmao
What I don't get is why didn't they just tap Spock for a couple of pints, clone however much they needed and simply filtered out the human factors? Wouldn't it make sense to keep some in stasis for emergencies that require a massive blood transfusion?
Thats a lot of Lieutenants for 1 squad !!
Love that epidode! Journey To Babel, second season. Love the Original Star Trek Series, best Star Trek out there, none better!
One of my fav episodes ever!
All those Redshirts standing together in one spot? Bound to be a massacre somewhere.
*Me holding a minigun* Ah I was
That was a greate episode
I’m surprised that Kirk didn’t put 2 and 2 together and realize that Sarek and Amanda were Spock’s parents. I mean, Kirk knew that Spock was half Vulcan and half human, and there can’t have been that many inter species marriages with Vulcans, especially with humans.
Yeah, but at this point Kirk doesn't know the ambassador's wife is human.
wasnt there a time when Spock told (nurse chapel maybe?) that his last name was almost unpronounceable by humans? it is entirely likely Sarek is just listed as Sarek on most documents, and Spock is just listed as Spock on most documents, for ease of the humancentric federation.
In one of the novels Spock is given a first name. It is super long.no one is going to remember it.
I like the updated effwcts
Ahhh... Is *this* why everyone always calls Sarek a ***** father? Makes more sense now.
So sad, even Spock’s own mother did not Acknowledge him
Actually I think she was waiting for Spock to say something first
@@DenitaArnold she must be a millennial lol. We don't know how to socialize!
She is probably didn't want to irritate Sarek or make a show. Just as Spock did not volunteer information at first
Ben Cross was good as Sarek in the 2009 film but he will never be Mark Lenard
This happened to me once.......................................once
Half those redshirts got killed just being an honor guard!!
Now here's a question that never occurred when I was a kid. As Spock's commander... why didn't Kirk know?
joem jackson Kirk never needed to ask any of his crew about their families, they would have to tell him themselves. As far as Kirk goes, he only needs to know his crew one on one.
I know you asked this a long time ago lol.....but with them being estranged it's most likely Spock never brought up the issue of his parents with Kirk.
joem jackson Vulcans are a very private race. They do not discuss their affairs with outworlders.
uncletaylorify Kirk never asked Spock who his parents were, since it never occured to him to ask. The only real surprise is that his mother is Human.
SantomPh not really since that fact has been mentioned many times in several episodes
I like the Galileo hangar landing scene much better here than the remastered CGI.
OK. Vulcans in general and Spock in particular do not like to talk about their private lives, but maybe Spock could have given Kirk a heads-up: the ambassador is my father and (maybe) he is not so happy I serve in Starfleet. After all, it would come up soon or later.
1:40 That's The Federation's Ass!
This comment went a lot of different directions
After being told they are Spocks parents, Kirk is like, "Oh this is awkward." Lol
For the briefest of moments at 1:02 I thought all those red shirts were about to be sucked into space.
