Oml Bones never looked happier than when he found out Spock had a teddy bear. That is the face of a best friend who has found a gold mine of new insults
But it had 6 inch fangs. So a pretty macho teddy bear.

One of my favorite things about Spock is that his human side is given away by his intentional insults. In a truly emotionless being, there would be no release of dopamine from the rewards section of the brain at something so simple as an effective insult. It's a purely human desire for petty revenge, and it's hilarious!
And McCoy knows it!
It's not though, Vulcans are MORE emotional than humans not less.
@@ghosty918 The two of you have invented false rules from specific examples within a show, the 1960s _Star Trek,_ that casually ignored its own earlier episodes if a better story could be told by changing the fictional world. It's interesting in that it's how good Star Trek often gets made, by ignoring "canon" or "lore", as _Next Generation_ did with its heavily revised, _Star Trek III_ derived Klingons, a revision which of course required its own "lore" from a cancelled Star Trek show to pander to fans. Spock would find it fascinating.

I find it so funny how amused Kirk is about their arguing, whenever they start at each other he’s always grinning.
The give-and-take between the three leads was always the key to Star Trek.
And to think, none of that was Gene Roddenberry's idea at all, just like the Federation itself.

Too bad nobody told Kurtzman... He's all but murdered the franchise at this point.
Earlier science-fiction was laced with nauseatingly perfect protagonists. Turns out the key to making them likeable is to split them in three.

The back and forth of Bones and Spock is one of the greatest things about the original series. They talk all kinds of trash on each other but you can tell they both really care, in their own way. It's great
Great observation. It was clear the two actually liked and respected one another.
To me, that was a very accurate portrayal of military personnel when I was in the US Navy if I was not being called Fokker or worse I would have thought the love was gone. We insulted the hell out of each other but would have taken a bullet for each other in a second.

The part where Spock's mother is talking to McCoy, you can almost see Spock thinking, If I were capable of emotion, Mother, I would feel that you are embarrassing me.

It's kind of scary that when they artificially aged DeForest Kelley, he acted and sounded exactly how he was when he did the pilot episode of Star Trek the Next Generation.

I think they used the same make up because Dee wasn’t that wrinkled until after TNG’s pilot episode.
They used the same makeup processes when shooting TNG (for which he was displeased with as he thought 24th cosmetic surgery would be advanced enough to make a 140 look like late 60's) and he reviewed his performance from The Deadly Years to recapture his "older self" portrayal.
Maybe that's WHY he acted as he did on TNG. He wanted to be consistent! LOL

Seriously though this whole scene is so good. Spock’s steely anger contrasts so well with McCoy’s explosiveness-and for once they’re on the same side, practically reading each others’ minds.

Katie Hamilton Loved how those two always got into it with each other, yet, they both admired each other's scientific knowledge each possesed. This was also the same thing that Gunsmoke always had between Ole Doc Adams and Festes, which Gene Roddenberry felt it humorous and incorporated this into his own television series tv show.
I don't know what Spock's more shocked at, the fact that his two friends have a child named after them or the fact that they didn't ask to add his name.

Every original Star Trek episode literally hypnotizes me. It's not only the brilliant writing, but also the amazing troupe of actors.
You know it's serious when Spock says I'll listen to any ideas, even emotional ones.

You can’t overestimate the importance of the banter between these three in making Star Trek what it is.
The writing and performances haven't been equalled.
Precisely why the Star Trek series following STOS, while good, never had the same appeal to me.

At 6:00 - The funniest Spock moment EVER! The face he makes is priceless! The first time I saw it, I knew that I'd never forget it. He didn't even have to say a word. The expression and the music were all that was needed.

Always liked Spock's line between 3:34 and 3:37 about being desperately needed among a shipload of illogical humans. The line itself is funny, but it also sounds like he's saying something a little more amusing than "shipload."

Intentional, of course, just like "you were so worried about his Vulcan eyes, you forgot about his Vulcan ears". Ironically, the stricter standards for TV content in the '60s vs. the '90s invited Star Trek to get a little cruder with wordplay.
A different world in the 60’s than now. This show had a plethora of different writers and therefore variety and viewpoints . Placed under the guiding hand of a brilliant production arm and staff and played by actors that happened to be perfectly cast it’s a once in a lifetime show . Probably never equaled in its ubiquity.
Also the '67 & '68 budget was the most of the shows on tv.

This is the reason why TOS will always be the best. Nothing in the bsubsequent incarnations could match the chemistey that existed between this cast.

I agree, I think the writing was better back then.
The more "canon" and "lore" Star Trek's fictional history accumulated, the more weighed down its stories became by it. _Deep Space Nine_ spent much of its time examining that, an approach that was still relatively fresh and new for genre TV at the time, and might be the superior production overall. But _Star Trek,_ the original show, will always be my favorite, because it is the "canon" freak's worst nightmare: a show that proves the best way to establish consistency in good TV is sometimes to ignore what happened last week.
I think the new movies are pretty good, it's how I came by the original series and I love both ^^

The Tribbles are a funny episode!! It's one of my favorites. ♥️

I've seen some comments down there saying that Spock and McCoy are like brothers, with *Spock* being the older one, and I have to disagree. The brother thing is obvious, but Spock is a snarky brat most of the time, and Bones is the grumpy, caring, imma-protect-you-if-i-have-to-sit-on-you one. (Plus Bones *is* older anyway, and Spock is like... barely twenty-five, if we measure age with Vulcan lifespans in mind.)

Yes, McCoy said he was 'just an old country doctor"---but in many ways he was way ahead of his time. If you remember, in "Dagger of the Mind" he was the one who pushed the reluctant Vulcan to attempt the mind-meld with van Gelder with the urgent "Will it work---or not?"

One of the most refreshing things about the original series, the hilarious exchange between Spock and McCoy. Deep down a mutral respect and love. Ironic (maybe not) that McCoy's first name is Leonard, as is Spock's real name Leonard Nimoy.

Likely purely accidental, since Kelley was offered the role of Spock, and chose instead the ship's physician, thinking that role would offer more humor than the serious Vulcan.

The friendship between Bones and Spock becomes clearer in the movies. The camping expedition; Kirk, Spock and Bones are most comfortable amongst each other's company than with other people. I sense each of them is lonely - no wives, no kids.
McCoy had a daughter! He entered Starfleet after the end of his marriage, canonically.

That first clip with Celeste Yarnell’s character “Martha Landon” from the ep The Apple, is what fully got me into watching TOS from start to finish! I had to see what the context of that conversation was haha. I’m glad I watched the show! Absolutely amazing! I love it! Breaks my heart knowing most of the cast has passed away. Rest In Peace.

Wow, I see this and am reminded what a great series that was. Timeless now, but ahead of its time. At 3:58, check out Mrs. Sarek....what an amazing look they pulled off for her gown and hair. For what was an fairly limited budget, they pulled a lot off creatively.
This compilation convienced me to finally go and watch the entire TOS!
My favorite all time back n forth was between Spock and Kirk in the last scene of the episode Mirror Mirror as Kirk and crew are exiting Spock ends it with "Capt Kirk ..I shall consider it" that banter between them was golden
In that 2nd clip from "The Gamesters Of Triskelion", Bones raises the question, "Can people live that long as disassembled atoms in a transporter beam?". That question is actually answered in the TNG episode "Relics", w/James Doohan.

In the first scene, there’s actually an unnamed redshirt in the room. I bet he’s trying to hold in his laughter seeing his boss and higher ups try to explain something which is extremely embarrassing to talk about, he probably would’ve told his friends all about it if he didn’t die later on.
