- WWE 2K24 features a showcase mode titled 40 Years of WrestleMania, and without a doubt this has been the most anticipated showcase mode in years. Following up 2K14's 30 Years showcase this mode had a lot of expectations, it had been over 10 years, so many new advancements in technology and gaming, the sky was the limit!.. until we actually played it and realized IT WAS NOT GOOD!

1) Do damage
2) Calculate the hypotenuse of an acute triangle while triangulating the position of a Canadian flag pole facing the western sun at approximately 2:27pm PST
3) Hit three light attacks

The problem is that you can't get the classic commentators from these games.
Gorilla Monsoon is dead, Jesse Ventura is too expensive, Jim Ross is in AEW etc.

2K has no excuses for not including commentary for the Showcase matches.
Would it be inaccurate for Cole and Graves commentating over Steamboat vs Savage? Yeah but it's atleast something instead of nothing

I really miss the narrator from 2K15 and 2K16s showcase mode, dude had the most badass voice as he recounted the rivalries and build up the matches which made you hyped up to play the matches

@hypn0298 i still remember the cutscenes like from 13 like the opening one talking about current WWE (back then now) then going to recount history that then transitioned into the Attitude Era and the Mike Tyson Wrestlemania 14 one partially because of the narrator.

It was a mode for historians, for older fans to relive old memories, and Newer fans to learn about history and shit.
The old 2-3 objectives per match, And every now and then, a big match getting like 4-5 objectives style was GOATed. That's not even close to a tutorial mode. This on the other hand, is.

The worst is when the game is like 'hit this finisher when you have three full finisher bars' just to get countered and have to do it all over again. It takes like 10 minutes to fill up those damn things.

You're right, it's an objective simulator. In 2k14 the objectives were not annoying at all.
The fact that all of them were just more than 20 epic matches with a 6-8 objectives, and could be failed, and if completed could unlock BONUS matches. Was better than 20-something matches that just go through the motions where you're kinda just chored into doing certain matches, and there's not more hidden content in it just feels hollow.
That’s because the 2k14 objectives actually made sense. For example I’m looking at the objectives for Austin vs Hart and it’s stuff like throwing Austin to the turnbuckle to do the ring post figure 4, hit him with a bell, damage his legs. If you watch the match these are major moments, most of the other 2Ks don’t do that

What turns me off personally is that there’s not even 40 wrestlemania arenas unlike in 2k14 there’s was all 30 arenas, it’s pathetic

@@MaldingMan13 they have to make 2 entire career modes, as well as the 4 new match types, and make changes to MyGm and myfaction, and update attires, animate new entrances and model new characters. as well as make all the showcase matches and arenas. While still working on the dlc from the last game, all in about 8 months of development time

The fact that the Showcase Mode is called 40 years of WrestleMania and it doesn't even have half of those 40 WrestleManias makes it obvious that they were rushing this from the start
From wrestlemania 13 they skip to 17, from 17 to 20, from 25 to 30. They skip like 3 or 5 wrestlemanias every match
FR, 2k14 had 47 MATCHES and you’re telling me 2k24 can’t have atleast 40???

Facts and they didn’t state that. I just watched an interview where they said out their own mouths that the 40YOWM Unlocks ALL the stuff in showcase yet it doesn’t.
This mode had huge footsteps trying to follow 2K14’s 30 Years of WrestleMania mode. But the fact that 2K couldn’t even include every single WrestleMania arena is just lazy. And no, contracts shouldn’t be the factor, as they could’ve gotten any obscure matches featuring our beloved legends and not to mention some Mania matches that do include contracted legends aren’t here, for example WrestleManias 22, 23, and 24 aren’t here, when they ALL have at least 1 match that includes contracted legends. This is just lazy and I can’t stand it. Easily one of 2K’s biggest blunders in recent memory. At least most other features outside this mode are good.👍

*TLDR: My theory as to why 2K sucks at making WWE nowadays is because 2K, well... is 2K... as in back then... during WWE 2K14 pre-era, there used to be people who actually cared about the series. Nowadays? Nope, you got a company and group of people that only have one thing in their mind... profit, just gotta make some money no matter the quality, that's only my theory, so take that with a grain of salt since it's just my take.*
I agreed tbh, haven't played yet but just looking at the showcase from other's playing through RUclips for this WrestleMania, it has the same problem that I've had with WWE 2K23 with John Cena showcase, I didn't mind Cena's showcase since I'm a new fan, but I actually agree that the criticisms that the objectives are super tedious and makes it too strict to actually enjoy the showcase, back then, my own brother told me stories of how he was able to play WWE 2K14 on the Xbox 360 years ago, and he told me how awesome it was to actually play a shit ton of matches, having the best roster at the time and to see the actual recreations of real life matches, in-game engine instead and to top it off, having simple objectives, I think the reason why 2K decided to flop this WrestleMania is because people forget this one thing that I would like to mention which is off-topic...

The studios that made Halo series and Destiny, reason why I'm mentioning them this is because I remember hearing a guy's opinion or view of companies changing and I think this is true, back then Bungie made the best halo games because you actually had the developers and staff behind the Company actually be passionate and that cared another about the series, fast forward, you have Destiny 2, prob one of the most controversial games because of how it is handled and how poorly it is being right now...
Another Studios I wanna mention is Turtle Rock Studios, that tried to make Back 4 Blood, basically Left 4 dead 3, but it failed miserably and one of the biggest reasons why, thanks to Crowbat from his video that I've remembered watching, only 6... yes... SIX people that worked on Left 4 Dead worked on Back 4 Blood, that's terrible cuz one of the things that made Left 4 Dead amazing was the fact that soo many passionate and people who has talent worked on the game, I think atleast 100+ people worked on left 4 dead, that's a big project to make an amazing game, also I could be wrong about this but it even stated in the wiki just how much people were needed to make Left 4 Dead.

I think the comparison I'm trying to make is, I believe the reason why 2K is being lazy is because these aren't the same people that worked on WWE 2K14 anymore, the same game people fell in love with, instead we got people who are new and different that simply don't care about the series and only wanna make money, which is the new standard of modern gaming recently...

WWE is more an investment by 2K. If it does well, they make money. If it doesn't, then they still have NBA.
I read that when THQ went under, 90% of 2K14 was completed, but not ready for sale.
WWE were desperate to sell the license, as they needed the game released in two months.
Most companies weren't interested. Wrestling is a niche sport, and there isn't the audience a FiFA, NBA or NFL game brings in. So apparently many companies were scared of, of meeting the same fate as THQ (eventhough the WWE series has nothing to do with THQ's closure, it was unrelated bad business decisions (such as UDraw).
2K were the only ones willing to buy the license, as, even if the series made them no money, they had NBA to fall back on, so wouldn't go broke regardless, whereas the smaller companies weren't willing to take that risk.
2K topped and tailed 2K14, polished it, and finished it, according to THQ's directives, to finish the game and get it out on sale. 2K had no creative say over 2K14, and their creative input began fully with 2K15 (which is why 2K15 was bare bones, as they stripped a lot of the stuff from THQ's games and "started over").
@@dhenderson1810 I do remember hearing that, which proves my point a bit that even so WWE 2K14 were under the 2K name, it was also still being made by Yuke's, the same people that made the SVR Series, even so they were still on 2K15 Development is like what you said on your comment, 2K had no creative due to THQ's directives and hence explains the criticisms/backlash of 2K15 at the time, lack of game modes, and glitches, etc.
WWE 2k24 gameplay is great.
But showcase mode is just underwhelming
This is like reverse wwe2k15, where the showcase mode was great but the gameplay was just “okay” (unless if you played last gen version then best game)
The game itself is excellent the best 2K game I've played since 2k19. The Showcase mode at this point should've gone all out, but they just tried to get this mode over and done with.
What's worst is that after this game they're simply gonna go back to the same old "get cover superstar and make a showcase about them with matches that don't matter that much cause we don't have the talent from before here"
Like just put more effort into MyRise and try and make GM mode not boring as shit.

Best three Showcases.
1) 30 Years Of Wrestlemania - 2K14
2) "Attitude Era" - 2K13.
3) "Stone Cold Steve Austin" - 2K16.
I also liked the HoF ones from 2K17 and 18.
Last year's Cena one wasn't bad.
2k15 one is up there too. Both Cena vs Punk and Triple H vs HBK were great, also they had 3 showcase dlcs for that game

The fact that baffles me is there are SO MANY matches that could’ve been added no problem to fill the void of 20 years of Wrestlemania content removed from this mode, and yet 2K sold the bag and gave us a major disappointment. I wouldn’t have minded the many objectives and cutscenes/footage if they added Y’know, LIKE 40 MATCHES THAT REPRESENT MAJORITY OF WRESLEMANIA?
They have like 7-8 months to work on the game including everything other than showcase. There is no way they are making 40 showcase matches in that time

@@largebig79 it’s closer to a year considering it’s every March now, and since they’ve been able to do 20+ matches for showcase mode in the PAST, they can definitely still do it now, counting in contracts and all. A lot of matches from the last 20 years can be added no problem.
A big part you missed in the video was the 40 years of mania edition gets you the superstars but doesn't get you the arenas so you still have to play showcase either way
I think it's a fair compromise in my opinion, I just wanted the stars right out the box. I don't mind working for the arenas

So uh, it took 3 games to realize how mundane the showcase are? It's the same tedious formula since 2k22.
The last great showcase was 2k16, after that they got much shorter and worse quality
@@hypn0298 Daniel Bryan's from 2k19 was great. Good selection of matches, accurate attires and you had commentary while playing. The only downfall in my opnion was the lack of entrances

I got the 40 Years Edition....and it seems like you still have to go through Showcase Mode to get all of the arenas.
Road to WrestleManias were way too better than showcase... At least they had story driven timelines

I’m only doing this just to get the arenas and unlockables. It was more fun in the past games and they somehow lost the art of mimicking the past stuff from 14 and 15 and 16.

God I’m so glad I’m not the only one who hates this showcase. I literally didn’t want to even play it because the music and lack of commentary pisses me off and the narration in the middle of the game while cutting to the real footage is annoying. Bless 2k14 and its beautiful showcase.

Well last year's showcase was featured of Cena's matches in which he lost. He won both his matches at Mania 22 and 23.

The fact that not all the Mainas are there is wild, especially with arenas like WrestleMania one, or WrestleMania four, also it's "Fourty Years of WrestleMania" yet there's multiple matches from certain manias... I mean sure some of them are very iconic matches like Savage vs Steamboat for the IC Title and Hogan vs Andre for the WWE title at 3, but do we need the MetLife WrestleManias especially when both Atlantic City mainas are so iconic?
Agreed. Too many WM 39 matches. Cody vs Roman would’ve sufficed. Then just give the remaining spots to something more iconic. My picks would be Savage vs DiBiase from WM 4 and Hogan vs Rock from WM 18. Honourable mention would be Yokozuna vs Bret from WM 9 with Yokozuna challenging Hogan.
1. Hated the put opponent in the southeast and northwest corner objectives.
2. I dont use any Legends unless they are from Attitude or Ruthless Aggression.
Simulation for those characters just feels so tedious when most of the time they were running around and beating each other up on fast mode.
1 attitude era and 2 ruthless aggression matches is just awful. There are 3 fucking matches from wrestlemania 39. The 2000s had the greatest wrestlemanias overall yet just 4 matches are featured.

The downfall of Showcase is almost impressive. '13's Attitude Era Mode and 2K14's WM Mode were extremely fun.

I was pissed because Steamboat vs Savage’s ending was truly special but of course we had a cutscene triggered
This is what I was afraid of after last years ridiculous objectives list. I don't mind doing a few objectives here and there like in 2k16, but this shit now ruins it. Shame on 2k for repeating last years mistake. Keep the objectives list to less than 5 per match and make it fun instead of annoying.

Who tf thought it was a good idea to use Undertakers super finisher and then just.. sit there while the game is begging you to mash buttons and engage in the gameplay but no you just have to stand there stunned as to what kind of moron would design or green light such an idea. AND then I watch Undertaker do his signature dive over the top rope. WHY was I not playying that man. Like imagine if Mankind/Taker Hell in a Cell the objective would be to climb up the cell and then irl footage would show you Undertaker throwing him off the cell like for real whoever designed this does not deserve a job.
It feels like such a slog to get through, its boring as hell hearing the copyright free music during the match and doing stupid tasks then randomly getting thrown in a video cut scene like damn let me play
Another thing is like, obviously, the game looks nothing as good as real life. So when they splice these scenes together they’re just exposing themselves like literally being like “Look what we ignored and didn’t even bother to add!”

Man I miss road to wrestlemania mode 😪 THQ used to put so much effort into those stories but effort isn’t something 2K does with their games
And we had like 4-5 different stores everytime too it wasn’t just one main story. I loved that mode I wish they would bring that and create a story back

This may seem random, but they need to take notes from the past 2 MLB The Show games. They execute replaying past moments in history PERFECTLY.

I went into this thinking they were gonna put WrestleMania moments back and instead got met with 109 objectives that take 20 mins to complete
I just started it today. And it's annoying AF. Just when you're at the last 1 or 2 objectives, the CPU all of a sudden gets super good, reverses everything and finally decides to use their 3 stored finishers back to back. Last year's wasn't this frustrating.
Biggest let down for me was not getting all 40 WrestleMania arenas.

The only reason why the keep on doing the sling shot technique is because yukes is gone and they don’t have the patience to animate full cut scenes for showcase but they can do it for myRise

I can understand it from both sides. On one end, I can understand that they're trying to reenact the actual events that happened in certain matches and they want to get people to use more controls. At the same time, I wish it wasn't so tedious and frustrating, along with letting us actually do the great moments that keep us into the game.
True, but the tutorial should be where you go for that stuff. I get simulation is more about picking and choosing the right moments, but this is a mode where you're playing different characters all the time, not just one guy's matches for 13 matches.

I replayed 2k14 showcase last summer and from playing 2k24 showcase yesterday, the downfall is insanely horrendous….genuinely frustrating

I feel like 2K needs to have an option to change Showcase mode between “Classic Mode” and “Slingshot Mode”
Classic Mode: Four to Five objectives, in-game cutscenes, and QTEs.
Slingshot Mode: Basically what we have now, just in case there are some people who like it.
Showcase Mode used to be so much fun. 😔

i got bored n stopped after a couple matches lmao. i'm so glad i bought the supercharger to unlock all the attires and wrestlers from the mode. i'll unlock the arenas some other time. hopped on universe mode since it works right out the box this time.
Agree, glitchy during ladder matches where the character just freezes next to it and sometimes the move requests don’t show up after completing a few. Can be frustrating and far too time consuming to try and get through. Which oddly seems to get worse the more you unlock levels.
What made the past showcases great is the build up for a match with small badass thrilling cutscenes showing how important the match really is then the match starts and shit goes down as king and jr jump out of their seats
2k14,15,16,19 remains best showcases

I miss the old showcases so much smh ever since 2k22 they've taken the slingshot aka the lazy approach. I like showcase for the unlockable content but its such a drag to play through now

I remember WWE13, the objectives where simple, iconic moments that people would want to recreate anyways for the sake of reliving the moment. They had a massive opportunity to mix real life with in game and let us really get pulled back to that time in history to let us experience these moments again, instead its a tedious Assassin's Creed escort mission through a slog of objectives that half of which DIDNT EVEN HAPPEN IN THESE MATCHES. like c'mon 2K stop giving these people no time and no direction on how to work on these damn games, a yearly cycle is TOO MUCH. Just update the current title and do it every other year, what is the rush besides lining your pockets, I don't like blaming devs cus 99% of them don't have any say what is put into the game and they just have to make it, its like having Van Gogh have someone standing over his shoulder telling him what to paint and how to paint it. LET THESE DEVS COOK 2K, and if the devs don't give a fuck about WWE, move them to a division where they do care and bring in people with a passion to work on the damn game. Sorry for yapping.

The reason for the the slingshot is probably because it saved them money from having to recreate famous spots during matches and they more than likely put that money towards cutscenes for MyRise

Nah Bro You Speaking Facts, Was Playing 2 Matches Yesterday And On Both Of Them The Referee Was Counting So Damn Fast And I Hope I Ain’t The Only One Who Peeped That. The Stamina System, The Directions (Southeast, Southwest, Northwest And Northeast) Get So Damn Confusing, And The Manager Interferences Especially In The First 3 Matches 😭

Same thing happened just restart your console and it should work. Just don't use that arena it will crash the game
so ture. way too many objectiives and too specfiic. what is the point in doing a corner move or reverse. i already know how to play. i enjyed in the old games the road to wresltemania mode. you had no objecitves just win. and a lot funner you would be in back talk to others and challenge them or do the main story. much better
My least favorite objective so far was WrestleMania 10's Attack your opponent in front of the ramp objective,since 2K24 has the actual MGS ramp in front of Hardcam, and the "offical" in game ramp off to the left.
