I remember when this happened live. When Woody began singing, my Grandmother and I smiled so hard. She always let me watch SNL as a kid, and I love the hell out of her.
I think the sign of a good actor/actress is being able to take the butt of a joke. She clearly got it here, and was able to support her Cheers' co-stars. RIP
Never seen the opening monologue of the Kirstie Alley SNL episode, WOW! So powerful! She acts as if she's surprized they're there, but I'm sure she knew.
@@dustypeterson1979 I remember that happening when she hosted to promote the Cheersw finale. Other cast members played her fellow Cheers cast members ion that case. I mostly remember Adam Sandler playing Rhea Perlman/Carla.
How cool that they all showed up to support her -- Grammar I knew could sing, but Woody sounded pretty good too. The hiding of Wendt was a nice surprise. She was a very good sport in the "Bellisima" sketch where the guys all were all over her -- I doubt they could get away with that NOW. RIP, you beautiful, talented woman.
God, this was so good. I can watch this clip all day ! I loved watching Cheers, and I loved the great chemistry between the cast. I still watch the reruns today, so you can imagine why this bit is so awesome to me. Thank you SNL for uploading this.
I just heard Kirstie Alley passed away at the age of 70 from battling cancer, it's so upsetting cause I luv her from Look Who's Talking films, and where she was on Scream Queens Season 2. May she rest in peace 🙏😔
@@Erin.56 I remember one Vulcan who wouldn't tell Trip Tucker her age, except to say she'd be 66 on her next birthday. I wish Kirstie could've lived to be 72+ on her next birthdays.
My one and only encounter with Woody Harrelson was in Beverly Hills where he was yelling at paparazzi for following him around and taking his pictures. Right in front of the Roots store.
Everytime I hear the theme song I'm instantly uplifted. I fall asleep to this show every night for the past probably 6+ years. I was too young when the show came out but remember hearing the theme song in the other room as a kid when I was made to go to bed. When I found it again in my later years I was instantly hooked and immediately knew it was the best show I'd ever seen. I can relate to every personality of each character. I think every single character main or secondary were essential in this show. I think the extras can't even be left out from the success of this show
I remember the next time Kirstie Alley hosted, she did this same opening monologue, but THIS time it was the SNL cast members playing the cast members of Cheers! Adam Sandler as Rhea Pearlman?! Believe it!
REAL affection, real humor, real depth - look at the audience - savoring - the MOMENT. Not ripping out goddamn smartphones to take a 2inch video that 100s of other people would take anyways. I wish humans would just slow the hell down and take a breath. Maybe less shootings and people wouldn't walk around looking like they're gonna snap
This was amazing! Love you and miss you a lot, Kirstie! You were a darling angel and such a fucking sweetheart, you will always be in our hearts and in reruns, we'll never forget you, hon! Such sweet sorrow!
When I was a kid watching Cheers in its first run in prime time, I used to think that Woody Harrelson was the original singer of the theme song lmao talk about a full circle moment 😆 🤣
The next time she hosted, it was hilarious, the cast dressed up as the cheers cast, and sandler was dressed up as rita pullmans character, walking on his knees. The removed it from the streaming episodes and its not on youtube.....wtf.
Okay... alright! Man up! No crying!.... This is the prettiest and warmest monolegue ever.. Greetings everyone from Turkey.. oh btw Noorrmmm !!! Hey they seemed so happy I don't know why... oh actually Cliff is not there... it's the reason and Carla must have got the bar... And coach... r.i.p

Woody was great singing Elvis songs in Zombieland Double Tap!
She was a good team player letting everyone else in on the limelight there. RIP KA

It’s called nostalgia and ditto
Yeah, you're not alone buddy.
Was at the actual Cheers in Boston…. Much different than the TV version, but still to this day, everybody was friendly. And still gives me chills
me too!! 😢

Chokes me up every time.

One of the most epic SNL monologues ever.
(Kelsey Grammer finally got to host in 1994, BTW.)

Don’t worry, Kelsey. You’re the only one who got a spin-off.
RIP Kirstie. You were golden.
The character of Nick had a spinoff as well, but obviously wasn't in this bit.
