Hello, I have not seen mentioned, or I missed, I think the main difference is that the ONE X can handle GPS though a smartphone or INSTA360 GPS, the ONE R doesn't. It means that ONE X can upload to street View, photo or video, ONE R doesn't. As a consequence, in the ONE R app there is no option to upload to Street View According to my opinion, this is important to know
great video my man. I think after watching this I am going to et the One X even though its the older camera. Im mainly using it for casual 360 video while riding my motorcycle and bicycle and some videos for travels.
thanks for the honest review, I have both cameras and frankly the one x is easier to take about because of the form factor, the low light on the 4k module is grim, so wish I hadn't bothered purchasing that unit, and gone for the one inch instead. The screen on the one r is okay but the menu system is not easy to fathom and i end up swiping all ways as cant remember what direction does what!! All in all I feel they have missed the goal and gopro wins hands down against the 4k module. One final thing is the selfie stick go pro mount which no matter how tight you fasten still moves, why oh why did they not correct this from the out set!

it has. Well, before going out of stock on Amazon.ca anyway. Was 1/2 the price of buying it directly from insta360. Then COVID happened and it hasn't made a comeback, with Amazon as the seller at least. I am hoping when some normalcy returns, so will it at a low price. Just before going out of stock, the price did shoot up again though.
Should add now that this is because it is discontinued so you will have a hard time finding it other than used. The last 4 Ive bought have all been defective anyway and it costs 2x the value of the camera to ship to them to have repaired, it is crazy. I talked them down to 40% off the repairs and it was still too expensive to bother.
I think it's good to have the 2 cameras if you can afford it. Using the X in bright day light in less perilous situations for the better stitching and invisible stick and the R when it get's darker and more adventurous ;)
Problem for me is the stitch line. Had a lot of issue with that. Otherwise the editing capabilities is great!! Software updates will hopefully correct the stitch line issue
I've upgraded, have both, and cannot agree with you. Stiching It's a lot worse in R. That problem increases as you are near the camera. That is for me a big problem. And stiching under water is null. It can not be worse. Underwater using without a case was the main reason to upgrade, but X with venture case does much bettwe stiching than R withous case. And I think watertigh components are weak, and camera will stop working with an intense use underwater. I hope I am wrong in this. You can not place R in a stick without that case, and being perfectly in line with stick, in order to be invisible, depends on screws. That does not happen with X. Battery drains quickly with that touch screen on. Do you think it worths to have a screen to take 360 clips? I don't think so. Touch interface is improvable. The X have better shape to take incredible shots putting it through small holes. Voice control is not good. You only can use to normal pics or clips, not to hdr modes (I think this should and could be improved in new firmwares). There is a lot of more aspects where X is better than R. But here I have to say R app is better. You can do more things, but it hangs often (it work worse in my android). X files are easily editables in R app with little trick. Bullet time modes are less in R than in X. And less clear. R comes without any neoprene case to carry it in your neck. Even 4k module comes without any protection. (You can find one in Thingsinverse). R comes without any usb-c to usb-c wire. I think this camera will like to new insta360 users, but will not surprise in anyway to Insta360 X users. The stiching problem is enough for me for not upgrading. (And windows insta360studio hangs up opening lrv_ files, the 4k module files). Maybe a lot of this problems can be solved via firmware or app upgrading. But I think others can not. I could be talking a lot of this two cameras, and I can nlt understand why you think upgrading is worth unless camera has been a insta360 present for you. I mentioned stitching is worse in this video which I also said is the main down side. As for voice commands. I never personally use them in any device as I feel super stupid speaking to a camera. Do not not accuse me if giving a good review because of sponsorship etc... we all have different opinions and you don't have to agree with me. Overall I prefer the One R because of the full water resistance (venture case on one X never worked for me), touchscreen (improved in the last update) and ability to shoot 4K video too. I also said in this video that the upgrade isn't huge and that he One X is still a great camera. Your English is great.

Have you tried it underwatee? Have you seen stiching under water or mixed over and underwater? Better instax with venture case (not diving case. That one has a big piece of plastic in bottom of the espheric clip). i repeat, thank you.

@@craigrmeyer I think there is not. Even worse in HDR mode. Maybe with leica module (I have not tried it). Bigger sensor ->less noise. I suggest not to buy this camera if you are going to use it mainly in low light scenarios. (None of small action cámeras, really). Maybe best option is wait a little to X price to get low, and then buy it. It's really a good toy. (Or you can spend 6000€ and buy a Pro)
I noticed how all these 360 cameras .....all the highlights are over blown . I see this in all virtual tours. I believe it can be cured with raw . But this kinda kills it for me with 360 at this point. I may get it anyway and see what I can do and in what situation I can cure that dynamic range problem.

I am not already invested in either so I would opt for the One R, I could tell the difference just in the video's, All the fine points are just bonus, I can't deny the X form factor regardless of vulnerability seems very slick.
i just recive mine , what i notice the very first time was the stiching line wich isn’t very good comparing to one x . i’ll go today up the mountain to shoot a video . then i’ll see after if it realy worth the upgrade . thank you 360 guy anyway for all this review . very useful as always
The 360 Guy i try the bullet time and it realy sucks ... today sky is very clear too much sun and too much ice on the slope and that means it’s too much reflections and exposure ☹️ . i ruin my videoshooting .
If you have to shoot on the closer range, one X will have a much better stitching than one R, as in one R massive stich line will occupy more video space of the 360 sphere. if you have a go pro already which is a case with a lot of people, you can use the regular video and 360 video TOGETHER. which in not possible in One R. Any one buying 360 camera for the first time, one X can be a really good, now that it has a much lower cost and you can use one R app. Insta 360 one R i think does not come with only 360 module, you must take twin edition, and one inch edition over it (At least last time i checked, it might have changed though).
In the beginning you said how the one x lens is easy to scratch...is the one R the same? or not as easy to scratch? Also, I am looking to to use this for doing virtual home tours. When scanning rooms on a tripod there should not be a problem seeing the tripod correct?

the one R is a little bit sharper, but I wouldn't upgrade yet. Unless one or the other gets a aperture setting. The is the Achilles' heel of most 360's cameras. But in studio you cant fix it a little bit.

The One X is a nice upgrade from the theta SC. Especially if you want to shoot any moving video. The app should also be fairly easy to work out and there are lots of tutorials in RUclips. I loved Hawaii so much!

Great video and love your honest and open review a lot! To me the GoPro Max does however a better job compared to the One R. And the workflow is also easy for the Max. The footage and stabilization on the Max are better then the One R
One issue with the Max is, you cannot change FOV in post editing. What you set is what you get, with the Insta 360 one R & X you can change in editing. Also depending on software the workflow is no different. Most times you want to reframe your 360 footage, this can be done in both GoPro and Insta360 apps or on a computer in their desktop software, unless you have a GoPro where they have not released the windows version!
Sorry. Newbie ask stupid question here. Was there any video of yours that review camera that has all feature for 360 & normal linear video? I mean, there is insta360 twin edition that could shoot 360 and 4k by switch the modular. Is there any camera that has this feature without change the modul? Note : I'm not proffesional. Before I'll buy the Insta360 One R, I'd like to see how the desktop application Insta360 Studio 2020 works under Windows 10. I've tested this software on two i7-equipped PCs and in both cases the sample insv-file is played back too slow and with shattered and echoed audio and the video is also stuttering. *On both PCs the CPU load was enormous:* while the video was played, one was at 100% and the other above 90% load. Both PCs have a decent amount of RAM (over 16GB) and an i7 processor. Does anyone else have had the same experience with this software? I've tested version 3.4.10, the latest as I'm writing this comment.
Ich habe heute das Studio für PC getestet. Beim Abspielen in Studio ist auch bei mir die Stimme etwas abgehackt. Doch die Ausgabe in MP4 läuft tadellos. Mein PC ist vom Jahr 2014, eine I7- 4770K CPU benutzt wird die integrierte Grafikkarte der CPU, der RAM ist 32 MB. Reicht völlig aus.
I tend to think that it is better to have the ONE X plus a GoPro Hero 7 or 8, especially outside North America. The X has the huge advantage of shape that gets it into smaller spaces, the invisible selfie stick thing is a big deal. The GoPro is better in lower light and underwater so they are very complementary with the X giving interesting footage, and the Gopro giving the bread and butter footage. The R does a good job of replacing both cameras, although carrying extra modules is little different to carrying two cameras, and it has significant problems. For example while the R basic module has a full range of frame rates, the 1 inch module does not do PAL 25/50 frame rates which means it is useless for me. If they add 25/50 I will relook at it, but there is still the size, stitching, and invisible selfie stick issues to deal with.
im seeing a LOT of people complain on the insta360 fb group about the R freezing all the time and having glitches, really quite torn over what to buy right now! R/X or MAX. I know what you are saying about having the one X plus a gopro 7/8 for bread and butter footage but would that not just be the case by having the MAX? you can shoot with just one camera on that and then turn it into the 360 camera when you want to get some cooler effects/shots.. my biggest gripe with gopro is the fact they have dragged their heels with the android/windows software which is totally unacceptable from such a reputable company!
s1de w1nd3r I like the Max because of its panorama photo ability, but apart from that, it is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades type of device. It is good, but nowhere near as great as Hero 8 as an action camera, and it is good, but not quite so good as the ONE X as a 360 camera. Its advantage over the ONE X is that it is better in the wet, but the ONE X kills it for size and 360 ecosystem. The Max advantage over the Hero 8 as far as action camera goes, is the panorama photo and perhaps stabilisation in some cases. Overall the advantages of the ONE X and the Hero 8 outweigh the advantages that the Max has, so for me having Hero 8 plus ONE X is the better choice, but it does cost more than just buying the Max. The Max is a wise choice when factoring in cost. Nowhere in this list of possibilities, however, does the ONE R rise into contention. Maybe a generation 2 R might be the best choice, but not in this first generation device.
@@artistjoh iv seen a lot of complaints on the fb group about the R freezing up and being glitchy I'd be furious if I paid 500 quid and ended up with that.. The max is supposed to be much quicker exporting its files but I don't know how true that is?
Same here. There is like a $100 difference between the X and R... I am leaning towards the R because it's new, it's waterproof, and is modular. Soooo.. R.. 🤷♂️

Otto Godijn Be careful ordering it from Insta360. They ship DHL and I am still having a nightmare with them getting the camera, weeks after ordering. If you can buy from a camera shop near you or get from a place that already has it and will use your national post or something I would go that route. DHL are the worst shipping service ever.
You'll be lucky if you can find one. Just a few days ago I purchased one on Amazon. A seller that goes by "worldwide distributers" put up 19 "new" one X's. I ordered one and they were gone in 2 hours. However, upon receiving it, it must have been a return. It was missing parts, things were packed wrong, they were stickers missing, And I found animal hair inside. I'm attempting to send it back now and going through Amazon and hoping they can find another one. I got Amazon involved because worldwide distributors will charge a restocking fee and a higher restocking fee if parts are missing. Being that this was not sent to me as new and not original unopened, I'm hoping Amazon can get me a full refund or a brand new not returned one.. We'll see. Just be leery if you find any available. Even the insta360 website has none available.

None of these reviews cover customer support and it's absolutely awful. ~40 emails and over 8 months later they say they couldn't resolve the issue even if they wanted to because it's been over 8 months since purchase. Seriously dodgy company-avoid.
Not a bad camera but do to the crappy glitchy app and limited stuff with their software, I sold both of mine and will never do business with those A*"-holes ever in my life. It's really too bad because with a bit more work on the app and software they would most definitely have an excellent product. Oh did I mention their lack of customer service???
Terrible video. You talked endlessly but very little of worth was conveyed. I wanted to know how the R compared for durability if dropped,can lenses be protected etc but you wasted my time. Won't be coming back.

Mistake on my part. Just make sure the stick is perpendicular to the middle of the camera. There's a tutorial on my channel for just this

In the one R can set your exposure compensation to -5 or more if you wish, that would stop highlights being blown out

Insta are offering an adaptor for selfie stick that makes sure it stays straight .... so stick stays invisible

Great video and love your honest and open review a lot! To me the GoPro Max does however a better job compared to the One R. And the workflow is also easy for the Max. The footage and stabilization on the Max are better then the One R
Does the Max do good HDRI images? That's all I need a 360 camera for.
One issue with the Max is, you cannot change FOV in post editing. What you set is what you get, with the Insta 360 one R & X you can change in editing. Also depending on software the workflow is no different. Most times you want to reframe your 360 footage, this can be done in both GoPro and Insta360 apps or on a computer in their desktop software, unless you have a GoPro where they have not released the windows version!
Can I use this camera also as a webcam though I understand it's not for this purpose.....

Definitely the R considering you can change lenses for different applications.
Go for the One X if you plan to use Mettaport 3D virtual app. One X HDR capability to shoot remotely is more than enough to build VR tours.

I mean, there is insta360 twin edition that could shoot 360 and 4k by switch the modular. Is there any camera that has this feature without change the modul?

What was your low light setting on for the R?
I just adjusted shutter speed and iso till got the best outcome. Will depend entirely on your situation
Before I'll buy the Insta360 One R, I'd like to see how the desktop application Insta360 Studio 2020 works under Windows 10. I've tested this software on two i7-equipped PCs and in both cases the sample insv-file is played back too slow and with shattered and echoed audio and the video is also stuttering. *On both PCs the CPU load was enormous:* while the video was played, one was at 100% and the other above 90% load. Both PCs have a decent amount of RAM (over 16GB) and an i7 processor. Does anyone else have had the same experience with this software? I've tested version 3.4.10, the latest as I'm writing this comment.
Ich habe heute das Studio für PC getestet. Beim Abspielen in Studio ist auch bei mir die Stimme etwas abgehackt. Doch die Ausgabe in MP4 läuft tadellos. Mein PC ist vom Jahr 2014, eine I7- 4770K CPU benutzt wird die integrierte Grafikkarte der CPU, der RAM ist 32 MB. Reicht völlig aus.

What's your main camera your using. It seems to be in and out focus the whole time your talking?
Guessing Panasonic GH4 or GH5. Clearly something with a really poor face AF.
What about the audio? No mention of the audio?!
Stereo in R. Mono in X. But not so good Quality in any case, though that have filters to enhance the Voice.

At 11:50 when you spoke about the selfiestick position on the ONE R you didnt show what you where talking about? Its just video of a city at night?

I tend to think that it is better to have the ONE X plus a GoPro Hero 7 or 8, especially outside North America. The X has the huge advantage of shape that gets it into smaller spaces, the invisible selfie stick thing is a big deal. The GoPro is better in lower light and underwater so they are very complementary with the X giving interesting footage, and the Gopro giving the bread and butter footage. The R does a good job of replacing both cameras, although carrying extra modules is little different to carrying two cameras, and it has significant problems. For example while the R basic module has a full range of frame rates, the 1 inch module does not do PAL 25/50 frame rates which means it is useless for me. If they add 25/50 I will relook at it, but there is still the size, stitching, and invisible selfie stick issues to deal with.
im seeing a LOT of people complain on the insta360 fb group about the R freezing all the time and having glitches, really quite torn over what to buy right now! R/X or MAX. I know what you are saying about having the one X plus a gopro 7/8 for bread and butter footage but would that not just be the case by having the MAX? you can shoot with just one camera on that and then turn it into the 360 camera when you want to get some cooler effects/shots.. my biggest gripe with gopro is the fact they have dragged their heels with the android/windows software which is totally unacceptable from such a reputable company!
s1de w1nd3r I like the Max because of its panorama photo ability, but apart from that, it is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades type of device. It is good, but nowhere near as great as Hero 8 as an action camera, and it is good, but not quite so good as the ONE X as a 360 camera. Its advantage over the ONE X is that it is better in the wet, but the ONE X kills it for size and 360 ecosystem. The Max advantage over the Hero 8 as far as action camera goes, is the panorama photo and perhaps stabilisation in some cases. Overall the advantages of the ONE X and the Hero 8 outweigh the advantages that the Max has, so for me having Hero 8 plus ONE X is the better choice, but it does cost more than just buying the Max. The Max is a wise choice when factoring in cost. Nowhere in this list of possibilities, however, does the ONE R rise into contention. Maybe a generation 2 R might be the best choice, but not in this first generation device.
@@artistjoh iv seen a lot of complaints on the fb group about the R freezing up and being glitchy I'd be furious if I paid 500 quid and ended up with that.. The max is supposed to be much quicker exporting its files but I don't know how true that is?

Same here. There is like a $100 difference between the X and R... I am leaning towards the R because it's new, it's waterproof, and is modular. Soooo.. R.. 🤷♂️

I did a lot of research between the two and ended up going with the One R. Imo, durability and protective upgrades make it worth the extra money!

Be careful ordering it from Insta360. They ship DHL and I am still having a nightmare with them getting the camera, weeks after ordering. If you can buy from a camera shop near you or get from a place that already has it and will use your national post or something I would go that route. DHL are the worst shipping service ever.

You'll be lucky if you can find one. Just a few days ago I purchased one on Amazon. A seller that goes by "worldwide distributers" put up 19 "new" one X's. I ordered one and they were gone in 2 hours. However, upon receiving it, it must have been a return. It was missing parts, things were packed wrong, they were stickers missing, And I found animal hair inside. I'm attempting to send it back now and going through Amazon and hoping they can find another one. I got Amazon involved because worldwide distributors will charge a restocking fee and a higher restocking fee if parts are missing. Being that this was not sent to me as new and not original unopened, I'm hoping Amazon can get me a full refund or a brand new not returned one.. We'll see. Just be leery if you find any available. Even the insta360 website has none available.

Why the 4k mods slow motion is so laggy and not smooth like gopro or even my iphone? This is what i have been seeing in all footage on youtube and i dont get why its so bad...? Or is it just me...? 😂 Cheers for the content 👍🏽👌🏽🙂

Not a bad camera but do to the crappy glitchy app and limited stuff with their software, I sold both of mine and will never do business with those A*"-holes ever in my life. It's really too bad because with a bit more work on the app and software they would most definitely have an excellent product. Oh did I mention their lack of customer service???

Terrible video. You talked endlessly but very little of worth was conveyed. I wanted to know how the R compared for durability if dropped,can lenses be protected etc but you wasted my time. Won't be coming back.
