    My mom bought a 96 850 and I have been maintaining it for her. It is high mileage and seems like almost everything has gone throng with it. In the space of a couple years I have replaced the pcv system, brakes, struts, radiator, thermostat, tie rods, trans fluid, timing belt/water pump, fuel sender gasket and lines, headlight lens, blend door servos, odometer gears, and probably more I can’t think of right now. While I am very comfortable with this kind of work, I had no experience with and Volvo before this one, your videos have literally made it possible for me to maintain and repair this car for her. Thank you so much for your instruction and explanation on these cars, you are a blessing.

    Installed my IPD kit today, definitely wish I had gone with the Snabb… I had to cut the bottom intercooler elbow to make it fit and it was still super snug between the trans lines.
    Also the way the IPD idle air control valve (blue silicon) came was just a straight tube, so I really had to work it in to place so there would be 0 collapse in it. 😤
    I then had to use the original clamps for all the new fittings just for convenience. The 10mm nut on the ipd ones were a huge hassle.
    It’s an easy job, but the ipd kit added an extra hour to the install, along with a bit of frustrated curses. 😅
    Overall I love the kit so much! The throttle response is there immediately and the turbo is just so hungry for that cold air now, it gets a little taste and the BAM it wants MORE! 🎉
    Thank you Robert DIY 🙏🏻

    Another reason for the RIP kit is, that it has less bends in the piping so the air gets less restricted and makes its way faster than with those two 90 degree bends in the stock setup.
    from what i have heard they discontinued it in 1994/1995 because the cold scandinavian air in the winter got through the system too fast and caused problems because of the big temperature difference ... so maybe you should only install this if your winters aren´t that cold

One for k24 turbos and the other regular. I'm assuming I should buy regular rip kit? Thanks for all your great videos now I'm changing my filter, oil, resetting coolant and hopefully more. I'm guessing you've been on Volvo Forums for quite a while as well. Here is a video that I made last week on the Intercooler Pipes for my buddies C70. I'm considering an 850 Wagon if I can find one in good shape. I'm in California so I think I can find one in good shape. Been a Dodge guy in the late 80's, Toyota/Honda/Mazda in the 90's, Foreign since mid 2000's. Just lost a 2005 Audi Allroad 2.7L Bi Turbo to an accident. Missing it badly. Man I just recently bought a volvo, and I hate to ask because i'm sure you hear questions all the time and I hope you don't mind answering mine, butI was curious to see if a c70 intercooler would fit up the same as a v70 intercooler would. My v70 is a 99 that had gotten into a scrapple with a fence. So after weeks of searching I found a used c70 intercooler whereas I couldn't find a v70 intercooler for mine less than about $300 brand new. The reason I can't just go to a scrapyard is that the three closest to me usually scraps theirs out unless their cars are less than ten years old. It's been a predicament.

    What do you think about adding a blow off valve? i love that sound ! And the Volvo engineers did a great job of silencing the turbo sound . I wish I could hear the turbo without loud exhaust. Any ideas

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  5 лет назад +2

      Larger intake & cone filter brings out the turbo sound.

    • @scottlewis4387
      @scottlewis4387 4 года назад

      The turbo already has a blow off valve, it's just that the air is routed back into the intake manifold. There's a vacuum hose going from the blow off valve to the intake. Remove it from the intake manifold nipple, cover the nipple with a vacuum cap and let the hose stay open to the atmosphere. You'll hear that blow off sound when you let off the gas pedal, although it's not as loud as a tuner style blow off valve. I know all this because that's the way my 850 turbo was when I first got it (the previous owner had done it). It was cool for a while but I got tired of it eventually, so I reconnected the hose to the intake manifold.

    • @andrewbreazna
      @andrewbreazna 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@scottlewis4387 ik it's been three years since you commented this but I feel the need to correct you in case other new people see it and get confused.
      The air on these turbos is internally recirculating, meaning the air never leaves the turbo, doesn't use any hoses to recirculate or vent. instead, what you're describing is the BOV/recirc valve's vacuum hose, which senses the pressure in the intake pipes and controls the BOV/recirc. Disconnecting this hose stops sending boost pressure signals to the valve and it stays shut. you don't necessarily need to close off the turbo side since it's just a valve, but it would be nice to keep it clean from dribs in case you want to use it again. The noise youre discribing is actually turbo surge, which also sounds amazing, it's that stustustu we all know and love.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  6 лет назад +1

      I have not touched Panther so you are really confused. :p I found an OEM Volvo 850 RIP kit in Lousiville junkyard a couple of months ago, just put it in Lil'Red. The upper intercooler tube was split. I put the new Snabb kit in Queen Bee. I like the Do88 kit as well (it looks like you can get the spark plug cover off easier). I think I'm going to put a Snabb kit on Panther as well. Mainly because I'm going to upgrade the turbo on it. A few people claim that the turbo lag is the same because the pipe is so big. lol I guess that would be the case if your turbo is small and weak.
