    Thanks to you I have gained the confidence to purchase and maintain a 1993 Volvo 850 sedan (110k miles, belonged to a doctor) that is in way better shape than my 2009 Mitsubishi Colt. I was so relieved when it passed the glove test, AC blows ice cold, too. Thank you very much, Sir!

      Andrew Oliver The first one I purchased was new in '87. I put more than 400,000 miles on that car. Only had to have it towed once after an accident with the fuel tank. The car cost me $176 per year (excluding only gas). It drove great even after 17 years. Solid cars.

    Top man Robert. I own a 2000 First gen V70 (90000 miles) I drive it in Liverpool England.
    I have a clean example and am making every effort to keep it that way. I am newish to D.I.Y mechanics. So when ever I need to do a job I end up looking at your how to videos. I have done quiet a few jobs now under you tutorial wing.
    Just had my dash out to check the mount tabs as I have a severe squeak and cracking noise going on. The mounts were all fine but it turns out the last windscreen replacement I had done left the screen too close to the front lip of the dash so thats where the noises were originating from. So a good lashing of sticky beutal tape on there sorted the problem. Your tutorial made it possible. Carry on the good work. Every video you make on the p80's makes my life easier. Thanks m8

  • @lionreb
    @lionreb 6 лет назад

    It's nice to see that the heater core is not so hard to access on the Volvo. ( I own a 1990 240 DL Gold Volvo Wagon, previously owned a 1987 Grey Volvo Wagon.)Never changed a heater core though... Right now, my issues are a rotting engine crossmember ( which I am still assessing), and a slack kickback cable that does not return properly. Hoping to replace that cable within the next two weeks...I bought the cable and a transmission pan gasket and filters in a kit...No, I am not driving it unless it is to repair it...I will drive it locally under 40 mph.....After the kick down cable is all set I will start looking into the pcv system.. liked you test! My current volvo has about 251k miles on it..

    Hey Rob! Blessings to you man! Thanks so much for your videos. I just purchased a 1999 S70 with 270k on the clock for $400 from the original owner! I owned a 1994 850 about 5 years ago that had over 200k miles so I wasn't intimidated by miles. Watched your video on what to check for and everything you mention checked out. Some typical issues like power steering fluid leak (I think its from a seal on the rack) and possible ABS module failure. I will be investigating, but wanted to let you know I appreciate you man.

    If someone can cook one of these engines, that owner surly be an idiot.
    There is a warning light about "cooling water level" in the front of the owner eyes...
    Btw, I cleaned the PCV system, and the carter gas still coming out.
    The bottom hole on the engine (near the pcv box) almost completly sealed with rock hard shit... the situation became a lot better after cleaning, but some smoke still coming out.

      lurkbob I have owned 3 or 4 960's. In my opinion, they are the best cars that Volvo ever built. Not sure much for low maintenance, but for the blend of usefulness and lower maintenance than the other white block, FWD cars. I like the '95 - '98 models better than the '93 & '94 models.

    Just bought an 06 s60 AWD and now the check engine light came on after only driving 50 miles. OBD code reads P0442 evap leak (small leak). Thats the only code. Everything else was good. Had original gas cap on so I replaced that. I'm hoping it is just that. I will b driving a lot tomorrow to see if light goes off. But now that I watched some of ur vids, I'll b checking out a lot more things on the car. Thank u so much for these vids!!!

    Hey Robert, I really enjoy your excellent videos, thank you. You have helped my family for years with repairs. I've had other Volvos for years, but I currently have a 2005 V70R and a 2006 S60R. They are still similar to the 850 and S70 that I've had. My 06' S60R had 10k miles when I bought it in 2007, now about 48k miles. This is the only Volvo that I've had that has had any transmission problems, it's been shifting very hard under full acceleration for a few thousand miles now, otherwise, it drives normally. I had a dealer check it out a couple of years ago, recommended a new transmission. I then had an independent Volvo shop flush the transmission, with no help. Do you have any ideas before replacing or having a shop repair this transmission? This problem transmission is a 6 speed, new in 06'. The V70R has a 5 speed with 128k miles and no problem. Another annoying issue that the S60 has is a weak radio signal, do you know where to find the antenna amplifier in this car?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  6 лет назад

      I wonder if the transmission torque mount is good?
      No on the radio, that is a strange one.

      Thank you for the fast reply. The shifts are so hard that all 4 tires will chirp. I'm sure that it will break something. I'll check the transmission mounts, is that the same thing, is the transmission torque mount internal, between the engine and transmission?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  6 лет назад

      Yikes! Lower edge of transmission to the sub frame. I'm sure the box is bad if it's shifting that hard.

    Hey Robert! We've put 4,000 miles our our 98' Volvo S70 so far since November. We replaced the entire PCV system and that fixed the pressure in the top of the engine so it is sucking now instead of blowing (your glove test is great!). However, we discovered that the engine is consuming about 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. It runs great even though it has 359,000 miles! Do you recommend an oil additive to help "rejuvenate" the piston rings or valve seals? Or any other advice?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  7 лет назад +1

      Nope. My car uses about 1 quart every 700 miles around town. Leaking valve stem seals. Just stay ahead of the oil level and drive on.

    robert have you ever seen an AC compressor clutch NOT disengage? My AC system froze up and then my battery kept draining because the clutch wouldn't disengaged. The clutch is grounded and has a positive switch controlled by the pressure switch right before the firewall. I had to run a new wire from the pressure switch to the compressor to get it to work properly although I think its caused the Compressor to cycle even when the HVAC unit is turned off unless the AC switch is on off and not auto, That last part could be my imagination. Anyway it would seem that wire would have had to short to positive not ground. Really weird.

    Hi Robert, I have a 99 s70 AWD 2.4. I want to add a catch can to bypass the oil seperator/flametrap so i don't have to tear apart my intake. right now i have a pcv valve connected to my dipstick tube to release excess pressure. If i run a hose from the top of the crank case to the can, and cap the line going to the clogged trap, will that work and keep condensation out of my engine and prevent my rear main and other oil related seals from blowing? Also would I have to run a vacuum line to the can?

      @RobertDIY  8 лет назад +1

      +Jonny Raige man, I have no idea. I if you watch my channel and see my videos, you have seen me pull countless intake manifolds. I have no knowledge of bypassing the system. The job takes about 3 hours, which is probably less time than trying to hack around it.

    Hey Robert, recently my 1998 volvo s70 started leaking coolant in a rapid manor, the leak appears to come from where the lower radiator hose connects to the metal pipe on drivers side of engine, due to angle I cant tell if its the top of the hose leaking or the engine, do you know if this could be a water-pump issue? If not what else, thanks
