I have a 1993 850 with a factory Manual 5spd. Supposedly this car was a special order where as the owner went to Sweden purchased this car and then imported it with it being built to us specs and the manual transmission. I was thinking of getting a less mile 850 maybe a r version and was considering swapping the manual from my current 850 to the newer one and now it sounds like i am even more reasonable in thinking this way? or do they make an aftermarket that is better?
Could you go into greater detail about your perceived differences with the 18/19t stock vs hybrid upgrade? How much better response and where in the powerband? I have a stock 19t from a parts car already- the hybrid rebuild is spendy versus just installing a used turbo. Would the extra $500 be worth it? Also- the hybrid upgrade is a turbo rebuild+ modified billet compressor wheel, is that all? Thanks man! Love the videos.
There are at least 3 improvements. Compressor wheel, turbine wheel, and thrust bearing. Less lugging, quicker spool and I was told they should produce about 30% more power. If you are happy with stock you will be good. I was more than happy with my stock 19T. Now I have less lugging and quicker speed at the pedal.
You are the man, Robert!! been watching for years and I finally had to comment. Love the seeing the joy surrounding these cars. I'd like to pickup a second, funner Volvo to compliment my '98 S70 NA Auto. I suppose if you want a true T5 or T5R or 850R or what have you then in the US you probably need to do a manual swap.. i NEED a Vo like the Panther!!
If I would live in the US, I would indeed swap the automatic transmission for a manual transmission. The pleasure and fun you get from a manual transmission over the automatic transmission is incredible. You can feel the power and the torque from the engine and shift yourself. And I would recommend it even more if you do it on a turbo 850. Sadly, many 850's in America were sold with automatic transmission... Finding a 850 with a manual transmission nowadays in America is just so incredibly rare. Let alone the T5-R and R's! Luckily I'm from the Netherlands and here you can find 'em much easyer so swapping is not needed.
Hey Robert, do you happen to know the distance between your brake rotor and the rear of the spoke on your wheels? I'm not sure if you are running Titans or Pegs, but I just did a brembo brake upgrade on my t5r and I have to use a 20mm spacer to fit my Tethys wheels. Wondering if I get Pegs it would eliminate the need for spacers.
Great video Robert. I have 1994 850 2.3 T5 automatic. What manual transmission would be the best for my car? Here in Europe I can get transmission from 2.0, 2.4, 2.4T, 2.5TDI. Would 6 speed transmission from V70 fit here? Another question I have about door locks. Recently doors started to lock once I switch the ignition on. How to disable this function?
Just wondering, but why not get a OBD-II bluetooth adapter and an app like Torque and have what ever information you want to show on your phone? I want my car to look stock inside and outside but still have some modern creature conforts. Now the engine bay is another story.
One more upgrade that I personally think you really should do at least on panther is a steering wheel cover. I noticed that yours is starting to dull for my age and my guess is that it probably feels grungy at times as well. The steering wheel on my CRV Was starting to feel grungy and I just bought a steering wheel cover for it and let me tell you it’s 100% better grip
I dispise steering wheel covers. Mine is leather. The original wheel is in my spare bedroom. This one is starting to wear but being leather it is still very comfortable.
@@RobertDIY ruclips.net/video/UeN5fwhJdX4/видео.html He got his from redlinegoods.com, but after rewatching the video I don't hear him mention pricing. For some reason I remembered it being $175 but I might be wrong.
What do you think of 2007 XC70? I have driven it and it’s very solid. I haven’t done the checks that you recommended yet. Awaiting the money before dealing. It needs a timing belt and top engine mount. What would you pay for this basically 1 owner and no accidents?
Hey Robert, what’s your opinion on adding a turbo to a 99 na v70? I don’t know tons, nor do I have any experience working on this engine but I am thinking of trying to add a turbo. My main concern is that the na engine has too much compression for any boost, and that that would cause gremlins over time. Or would that benefit the performance? (I would probably use parts from a junker T5 or something similar) Anyways, just wondering what your thoughts are on the idea. Thanks!
im really not a Swedish car parts fan (they are some weird dudes ....not bad dudes just kinda wacky)( no offense ) but was thinking of the ipd cat back...i dont hate the sound of it but id rather not have that rumble i really like silence ....im not doing a racer just a enthused driving experience . I noticed that yours is starting to dull for my age and my guess is that it probably feels grungy at times as well. The steering wheel on my CRV Was starting to feel grungy and I just bought a steering wheel cover for it and let me tell you it’s 100% better grip
You can also get them reupholstered with fresh alcantara and leather for around $175. There are options to add thumb bolstering too for better grip.
I dispise steering wheel covers. Mine is leather. The original wheel is in my spare bedroom. This one is starting to wear but being leather it is still very comfortable.
Where can it be refinished for $175?
@@RobertDIY ruclips.net/video/UeN5fwhJdX4/видео.html He got his from redlinegoods.com, but after rewatching the video I don't hear him mention pricing. For some reason I remembered it being $175 but I might be wrong.
@@RobertDIY I know a guy in Germany who does them. I believe there’s also a guy in Kansas as well that the car wizard uses for upholstery
What do you think of 2007 XC70? I have driven it and it’s very solid. I haven’t done the checks that you recommended yet. Awaiting the money before dealing. It needs a timing belt and top engine mount. What would you pay for this basically 1 owner and no accidents?
I have not owned one, probably a nice vehicle. www.NADAGuides.com
Wow that is cool. Can you guide me on how to convert it to manual transmission. I have glt non-turbo.
There is a link in the comments.
What headlights do you have in Queen Bee? Looks very nice
I think they are called Spider lights. Someone gave them to me instead of $$$.
Thanks!

@@RobertDIY thank you!
How hard was it to install those gauges? I like them. Also, what is your opinion on installing Led headlights?
About a 3 of 5 on the gauges.
I have not run any yet. As long as they don't blind others they should be great.
Have you tried the subframe bushing inserts?
Yep
@@RobertDIY so you don't like them that much because otherwise they would have been in this video?
@@EmilBMWable They greatly increased the feel in my car, I installed them at around 330,000 miles. Huge improvement for the ~$30 they cost
@@SkillCap thanks! Looking to install them on my 2005 v70 2.5t with 400k kilometres
They are far from the best 5 things that I have done.
Loved it
Thanks for watching
Queen bee babbbyyyy!
Woot woot!
my 94-95 t5 has some sort of OBDll
but ScanGuage just doesn’t agree to work ☹️
some OBDll readers don't work either
Maybe the connector is dirty. Mine works good with most scanners.
do these improvements also count for a 1997 960 volvo??
No, the 960 is done when it leaves the factory.
Man, I’m dying to manual swap my 850 turbo platinum. If I ever find a manual transmission…
🧐
How do you have 2 carport spots your truly a wizard my condo took one of my cars
Yes, I pay for 2.
Any link for scan gauge?

@@RobertDIY they look great, just used your starter replacement video to replace my starter. looking to start fixing it up more and more
Does you tanks name Panther refer to WWII Panzer?
Nope, animal.
Awesome!
Glad you think so!
im really not a Swedish car parts fan (they are some weird dudes ....not bad dudes just kinda wacky)( no offense ) but was thinking of the ipd cat back...i dont hate the sound of it but id rather not have that rumble i really like silence ....im not doing a racer just a enthused driving experience . IPD sway bars yes you got a win there !!!! manual swap ...no thanks i like being a driver not thinking about shifting and doing the driver seat shimmy .......
LOL Do you have the bars?
@@RobertDIY yes and every time im in the salvage yard i l look for them too./...
Awesome!
Damn that's a nice body! 10:55
My favorite picture of it.
Our 95 doesn't have OBDII, otherwise that ScanGuage would be a nice idea.
Both of my '95's have it. Other gauges work fine.
