Kara I completely understand your reaction. I like that real moment. Thanks for sharing it. Easily could have been edited out and you didn't. Thank you for sharing what markets are really like. Josh and I dealt with similar things in Turkey. -Ash
Absolutely. My wife and I were in Turkey in 2018 and it was absolutely unbearable. The amount of hustling and pressure and dishonesty was a complete turn off. Although we enjoyed the trip overall, it left a sour taste in our mouth and we're in no hurry to return.
@@bethb7965 OK. Maybe calling her a Karen was a bit harsh, but what you ladies forget to understand, is that these shop keepers survive on this. Don't look at it as harassment or them being pushy, but as them merely trying to sell a service (Food here) to feed their families. Most of these guys are nice and the Moroccan culture is a warm and "touchy" culture. It's normal for people to get closer when speaking to you, but they mean no harm. You should just enjoy the experience and know that when you go to places like Jamaa El-Fna or the Old Medina, that you go there to savor the whole experience. It's like traveling through time to a mystical place.
I lived in Morocco for 6 years and taught English as a second language. That's very normal for people to push their products or try to convince you to eat at their restaurants in Marrakech because if they don't they will go out of business as it's extremely competitive and a huge tourist trap. Other cities aren't as bad as this. I lived in Fes. It's so beautiful there. Better than Marrakech. I hope you guys enjoyed Morocco and get to go back and visit other cities! Love your vlogs!
No apology necessary. You have such a positive attitude in all your travels. Even your frustrated and hangry is kinder and gentler than manymoments I can admit to. Just ask my family lol 😂

I’m impressed with how well Kara reached back and grabbed that last cup of oj without looking at it. Your vlog has been my quarantine project and I’m obsessed. Morocco/Sahara was a top three favorite so far.
I'm Moroccan and I find that so rude they are so annoying with their offers, I would yell at them if I was there this is so embarrassing , and this is only in Marrakesh this in not a Moroccan thing.
I am moroccan and it frustrates me when I am passing by the stalls and the vendors just start coming at me like that, I found a good technique to push them away though, I make a very serious face and just say "no thank you " and they leave me alone on the spot. Hope this will help some future visitors of that beautiful place.
I went to Saudi Arabia a couple years ago and oh man taxi guys were even worse than here. They grabbed us by the arm to go to their cars. It happens that I have had many times jumped to the guys and told them "QUIT YOUR BULLSHIT"! And yes, always pay attention to your pockets, there are pocket picker, not as many but there are
Dang. I got anxiety just from watching kara walk down that street. Kara had no need to apologize for being negative that was too much. And most of them were not hounding nate right behind her with the camera which is crazy. They were singling her out and trying to overwhelm her and the thing with the phone proves it. Glad you guys got out of there okay.

I wouldn't like everyone coming to talk to me at the night market. I would have had to leave. You handled it well, Kara! Good for you kicking the guy trying to pickpocket you!!
Nate, you shouldn't have Kara walk alone!! Istanbul is similar on this restaurant "preasure" too and they only way I got rid of them was by walking holding my boyfriend's hand.

You reacted very understandably. I went to Egypt with my mom when I was 16 and had a similar encounter in a closed in souk, they started grabbing at me and my mom absolutely lost it on them. Luckily we were with a local tour guide who helped us and taught us to yell "YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME" at them if they got way too close and started grabbing at us, because they shouldn't be touching a woman and they don't think you'll know that.
I don't think Kara was rude or negative at all. expressing her frustration was not being negative. Come on Nate! You guys are really considerate and grateful in all your circumstances. but this one was a valid instance where expressing frustration is not the same as being negative. Watching "From the Beginning". wow you guys K&N! we are starting the 2017 videos next. can't wait!
i know food venders do these a lot in foreign countries. Maybe to assist you to go to their food stalls to taste their delicious food they prepared cause they think you maybe hungry. So in our Culture" it's rude" to have food venders come to our face and direct us to their restaurant. I noticed thou in u.s.a. malls in food court that some supervisors have one of their employee stand in front of their tiny food stall and give free pieces samples of food that's in their menu to passer's by who may want to sample their fast food products b4 ordering. So that's a good option.
That's the biggest struggle when visiting these countries. I wish we could explain it actually puts people off. I would avoid an area like that where I might actually have a good experience and good food. Such a shame. X
Am I wrong, usually you guys avoid going out at night? Got skeevy fast. Check out the guy at 5:51 just leering and smoking a cigarette in a doorway. Would love to hear your alls thoughts on traveling to places where this happens more often, (looking at you Italy!)
The street food is nice. Hotel owners, taxi drivers etc get a percent if they recommend stores or restaurants. I think thats why the owner of the riyad recommended a specific restaurant
I can't wait to go to Morocco in January. I've been looking at prices. Even for a third world country the food prices seem crazy cheap. Also for food they seem more agressive than I experienced in Istanbul. Your A&B guide for food sounds great. I would love to have those reccomendation.
Please keep showing the realness of your travels. Everything doesn’t have to be “positive”. And I’m a little perturbed that Nate didn’t come to your aid. Of course he would call your reaction negative. He has no idea what it’s like to walk in the world as a woman. His privilege was showing. But I still love ya Nate!
Phew! This vlog definitely gave me anxiety! After your vlog from yesterday, I had this place on my bucket list, but after watching this vlog...NOPE! There was that one creeper staring at Kara while Nate was buying the scarf. And then WOW! I couldn't believe the amount of men who kept getting in her face, one after another. Kara was WAY more patient than I would have probably been! And I couldn't believe that Nate was just letting it happen to be honest, staying the distance between them like he did. Some of those men looked like they were being quite forceful and I honestly was expecting them to just grab her arm or something. I wanted to hug Kara afterwards. 😔 I'm sort of annoyed at Nate, making her feel like she needed to apologize while he didn't do his part to protect her in the first place. And then at the end when he high-fived her because someone unzipped her pocket to take her phone and she kicked the guy!?! Nate, keep Kara closer to you instead of being a distant observer! Poor Kara!
Thats how they make their business in some market or restaurant vending places around the world, you have to get use to it. Or simply don't go to that area where they do that type of form for business. Markets in Mexico, Indonesia, UAE, Belize are like that just to name a few countries.
It is a very understanadble reaction. Unfortunately in some countries where a lot of tourist are the sale comes way befor respect and common sence. Marrakech is certenly diverse just like the wolrd. You find the good and the bad.
the soup at the end called harira . best soup ever . the hustling is a problem in marrakech they are like hungry dogs . i m moroccan by the way i know what i m talking about
Great tour, I'm moroccan and trust me, I get more frustrated than you did because of all the disturbing dudes trynna sell you stuff.. but you know, souks! Hope you had a good time doe xxx
I have so much to say 2 years later on this vlog. sorry late to the party here watching them en mass. Those men would never do that to a Moroccan woman, and you have every right to be angry. They were disrespecting you in an underhanded cultural way. I would love to suggest a book called Guests of the Sheikh by Elizabeth Warnock Fernea. She also has one called a Street in Marrakesh. She is an amazing writer, Christian woman who lived in Muslim areas with her anthropologist husband in 60s.
You don’t have to apologize for not being okay with how aggressive those restaurant owners were. That’s an acceptable reaction to unacceptable behavior - even if it’s what they usually what they do. Glad you guys had great experiences in Morocco, otherwise. Would love to see you go back! 😊👍🏼
I'm with Kara..sorry Nate, but I completely agree ..if I want your food..I'll buy some! Her anger and frustration was completely understandable ..they seemed more pushy than other places too. "In your face" intrusive.
I'm so glad Nate captured how the locals harass tourists in Morocco. I was so frustrated for Kara. I remember going abroad and we got hounded everywhere we went! "Oh American, special price!" 😵
The only time I succumbed to culture shock and lost it at a local was in the Djemma. I had just arrived on a 10 hour bus ride, and was trying to find my hostel. A tout grabbed me by the bag and said "essouira, agadir, this way". I yelled "get the f** off me!" and he jumped back. One of my travel mates pulled me aside and said "go home, mate. that guy's just doing a job. it's acceptable here. if you can't handle it then go home." I felt terrible for yelling at the tout. It happens to all of us though, and it's okay as long as you realize it.
You had every right to snap. They're pushy and they have no repsect for personal space, even by Moroccan standards, and they know it. They expect that some people are goning to react badly, just part of the job.
I disagree with your friends reaction to YOUR reaction. You had every right to be frustrated in that moment just like Kara did. While it may be normal to them they need to realize that it may not be normal to people who are obviously tourists.
Kara I completely understand your reaction. I like that real moment. Thanks for sharing it. Easily could have been edited out and you didn't. Thank you for sharing what markets are really like. Josh and I dealt with similar things in Turkey. -Ash

the soup at the end called harira . best soup ever . the hustling is a problem in marrakech they are like hungry dogs . i m moroccan by the way i know what i m talking about
Great tour, I'm moroccan and trust me, I get more frustrated than you did because of all the disturbing dudes trynna sell you stuff.. but you know, souks! Hope you had a good time doe xxx
Just wondering, how often do you take pepto bismal?
I have so much to say 2 years later on this vlog. sorry late to the party here watching them en mass. Those men would never do that to a Moroccan woman, and you have every right to be angry. They were disrespecting you in an underhanded cultural way. I would love to suggest a book called Guests of the Sheikh by Elizabeth Warnock Fernea. She also has one called a Street in Marrakesh. She is an amazing writer, Christian woman who lived in Muslim areas with her anthropologist husband in 60s.
Haha I couldn't even get shots of them harassing us at the square. It really was too much.
So I have read about some “not” to do’s in Morocco. Showing your shoulders as a woman. Has anyone said that to you?
I have a question, is the weather that warm at Christmas time in Morocco?
Naan + Chapati = paratha , that’s what we call it in Bangladesh
That's the worst part about that place!! My wife felt exactly the same as Kara
They didn’t harass you just your wife? Sketchy!
@@evie6811 I'm of Greek decent and my wife was Blonde
If I ever go, I would be like y'all getting fresh juices 3-4x a day 👏🏾😂
don't apologize it's understanding to be that frustrated. Truthfully you handled it way better then i would have
They spent $1.20 getting 3 juice drinks in one day.
Incredible! 😁
Don’t apologize. I would’ve acted the same way. I love how real y’all keep it. Showing some bad with all the good. And then your phone!!!! Ahhhh!!!!!
I'm so glad Nate captured how the locals harass tourists in Morocco. I was so frustrated for Kara. I remember going abroad and we got hounded everywhere we went! "Oh American, special price!" 😵
Take a shot everytime they drink orange juice in morocco
Cameron Enoch I agree
