I have in my collection are Nikon bodies D2h, D2hs, D2xs, D3, D200, D700, D800, D800e. I love them all, but have to agree that all you need to create great photos is a D200, a good lens and some shooting discipline. The newer bodies are better at higher ISOs for sure, but little else is gained that can't be corrected with basis editing skills.

The CCD sensor in the D200 has it's own film character. It can't be compared side by side with the CMOS D500.

True, nevertheless, the D200 does a great job for the money.

Bought an immaculate low shutter count D200 for £80 to add to my collection. Great camera and undervalued, yes for sports and action shots I love my D500 and it's hard to beat but it costs 10 times the money and it's not 10 times better than the D200

I love the D200. Many years ago, I could not afford it. I was dreaming about a D200, but the price was just too much for me. Now, they can be had here locally for

    I have to say , seeing them side by side , I honestly ( IMO ) prefer the venerable " D200 . " ! Richer colors , more indefinable " character " in the images .

I decided to purchase a D200 about 6 months ago after not owning one for about 15 years. It’s in superb condition and yes that ccd sensor delivers color not unlike color film. We raved about it back then so what is so wrong with it now? Also a D7000 can be had for under $200 and it does not feel dated to me at all. Solid build, dual card slots and a dynamic range not far off the D500.

I had a D90 which also was a great camera but wasn’t so good with manual focus lenses. I think the D300 is better for a small increase in cost. Also if you look at the D500 the cost of one XQD or CFexpress card for the D500 can cost more than any of these old cameras on their own as well! 🤘😁📷👍

When I was starting with a DSLR all I could afford was a D200...Previously I used a Nikon F with a Photomic head and a Canon F-1...I have had the D200 for years now and have never seen the need to upgrade (I am not a professional but have sold a couple of photos to newspapers and magazines)...I have a small selection of lenses, Nikon and Sigma, I really like my D200 and will stick with it...Although if I can get a D300 for a good price it would be nice to have video for some situations...Great video...

The Nikon D200 did a really good job. If my gear got stolen I just buy cheap gear to get started up again and then buy what I really need again. But its best to have insurance on your gear.

Excellent comparison. The D200 still has an anti alias filter and another type of sensor. Colours are better. But as said printed on paper the D200 will in good light give better results because of the better colours.

how can you miss the focus on a distant shot like that of the buildings? If the lenses were both set at infinity, then the images should be in focus unless the lens itself is not properly calibrated for infinity..

I'd immediately buy a DX camera with manual focussing and split image view finder. You just NEVER know where the AF is focussing on. Is it a small twig between you and the subject?
I mainly use a D7100 (24 MP sensor) in N mode where the camera downsamples to 13 MP. I did some tests with L mode (24 MP) but the differences were negligible. Not worth the double file size.
And when you print the images, on paper, you see that most of the things you seem to see on a flatscreen display are not visible anymore.

Thanks for sharing your experience with great results....I currently have the D7100 & D500 so I find comparisons very interesting....I am only a hobbyist & just love taking pics of whatever interests me.... maybe I should have just upgraded my glass instead of the camera although my D500 is amazing....I also still have my D70s which I love using from time to time...
    Cheers..😀

It would be interesting how the D200 would look like against one of the latest cheap DX camera bodies like the D3500, which sells used for around 300 Euro (if you have good look with the very modern kit lens).

Good question. I have had one of the D3XXX cameras. From memory, 24MP. Outstanding camera. It was smaller in shape compared to the D200. Also a great camera as a starter in photography.

D200 has ccd sensor in it. Great rendering and color at 100-800 iso in good light. Poor in low light situations.
Flash works very well with D 200.
I own D 200 and used for 10 years and thousands of family vacation images.

I recently sold my D7200 with some G lenses to concentrate more on photography instead of technology. Now I use old mirrorless for portability and my beloved first camera D60 with manual lenses like 60mm micro and a 200mm AI is arriving. In search of a good D200 or maybe D80, lighter. Nikon is Nikon. What about? Thank you.

I have a D3500 very good IQ, not very practical for fast action with just 11 focus points.
Just ordered a D40 almost the same CCD sensor as the D200, just for fun to see what the fuss is all about!
