Wow you got that idler bearings just in time you are going to have to go through everything with the cooling system we all see it too hopefully you can get deals for the parts you need thanks for sharing love watching
Dowtherm 209 loved 3208 block!!! Cat had corrosion inhibitor added coolant back early 80s. Keep up good work Jeff. Easy do to front end work now. Liner tour clean out crud inside.
It is the mood of the country nowadays... the frickin' weather , the frickin' politcians. the frickin' EVERYTHING!!!!! Good luck on your current project. Thanks for taking us along!!!!!!
Just a FYI Jeff , those expensive tail lights are the same as Mil spec tail lights , the only difference is that are painted OD 383 Green !!!! you can find them from a lot of places on line . The little blank spot under the lens is for a Blackout light . all the best , stay safe
Good thing Jeff that among all of your talents, you're a Cat Mechanic. I would hate to even imagine what all of this work would cost if you had to have them work on it. Thanks for sharing the process. Have a great day.👍👍
Hi Jeff. For that kinda money I'd make them radiator gaskets myself, Garlok is cheap. At least that's how we'd have done er in Dutch harbor! Cheers bud!
No doubt these pigs can be a real muva to work on when they are all together, therefore might as well do it when you have it apart the first, that is unless you like to take it apart again, and again, and again…….
I have had good luck with those seperable belts for the ac/ alt drives on various machines over the years that require pulling a bunch of crap to change the belt.
At homedepot or lowes. They have zip ties in the ac duct area for soft ducts. That might be long enough to push most of the way thru the radiator coolers. Do you have a sheet of plywood or several mud flaps to lay across the radiator core while its out there flat on the concrete.
A an outfit I used to work for we had “operators” and I use that “word” loosely that were bad for leaving keys and or disconnects on. Myself and the other mechanics got tired of jump starting and swapping batteries in equipment because of stupidity so we wired a light in the cab and a one on the roof that came on when the equipment was shut off. They were wired with a relay and timer to come on after the machine was shut off for more than 30 minutes. We also put signs in the cab, and fuel cap. If because we always fuel the equipment at the end of the day. If we or the fuel truck driver found a piece of equipment with the disconnect left on we put a different lock on the disconnect cover so the operator had to come to the job foreman to get it unlocked Needless to say operators started turning the disconnects off on the equipment because they didn’t like getting their ass chewed out and possibly sent home for the day
Well mister PayDurt , I am telling you that working smarter will keep you working longer (in your old age man ) smart move using the lifting mechanism to aid with the fan 🤔🤣😂😎.
Don't want to sound alarmist , but you need to be real careful with Griffey around that antifreeze . Dogs like it because of the sweetish taste but it can lead to a nasty death , know you wouldn't want that !
🎋🤑 THINK "SAVING BIG BUCKS" Jeff when you figure the hourly (CAT shop labor) cost vs your [get it done correctly] the bottom line makes those } PRICEY repair costs well worth the INFLATED dollar you end spending on the project !!! ... just DON'T invest in cheep bearings !!???? 😱 "BEEN THERE > 👎🏻DONE THAT > 🤯NO GOOD !!!! Looked like one of those fan blades was bent on the end, 😕damn it isn't, ... 6:15 time on video! KEEP WRENCHING - THANKS FOR THE VIDEO - ALWAYS INTERESTING TO TAG ALONG!!! GODSPEED 🙏🙏😍😍😍😍😍
Dear Jeff, keep forgetting to ask you, what's that instrumental tune, starts around 9:33? It's in many of your vids. Great to see progress on the 9, steady progress!
Jeff, you sound just like me when I’m working! But, I’ll tell you why you left the grader battery on. You have CRS. Can’t Remember Shit. We all get it as we get older. I’m at stage 4 now. 😉
Jeff when you get that machine right and proper. It'll be the cats meow for you. Hopefully you won't have to do major work on it again. Is this cat going to get a switch blade turbo on it?
Was common on older crawlers. Changes direction of air flow from push air out the front for summer, to pull the warm air through the front towards the engine and operator. You push down on the blade and rotate it, one at a time. TGP
What is the name of that song your playing? Nothing to it just curious cause I like it, sounds like a song I heard long ago by Reba. Dozer has a large amount of plaque buildup aye. Gonna be strong and run long when your done with it.
Jeff don’t quit your day job I like you’ve been rotten. Those are too long you’re beginning to lose it but like I said I don’t have to be crazy to work here just helps.
Get the decompression chamber ready...It's gonna be a deep dive! That shit is probably in the darkest corners of system. Too bad. Especially when cooling system maintenance is not all that hard and there is plenty of information on how to achieve it. Brute force and ignorance I guess!

Nice to see the supervisor on the job site. They do spend most of there time in/under the truck. Thanks for all your hard work.

IMO Jeff …. Use the crane as often as possible!! Mrs. Paydirt would agree - we can’t have you injured. Have a good rest of the week!
Good luck with that coolant system Jeff, what an enormous task.
Jeff you do things right that's good . Shame others cut corners . Good luck keep us posted 👍👍
She’s going to be brilliant when she’s done. Really enjoy these videos.
Great video Jeff looks like cleaning out the cooling system is going to be alot of fun. Thanks for sharing stay safe Jeff.
Those lights appear to be a cat yellow version of the standard military tail lights.
Good thing Jeff that among all of your talents, you're a Cat Mechanic.

Have a great day.👍👍
Thanks for the show Jeff
In the big roll pins. Use a scribe or other tool to run in and out of the blade retaining roll pins to make sure they are not cracked inside.
Many thanks, Jeff
5:22 I thought that was one of those high dollar Cats where it said 6NZ in that fan drive. LOL
Just as well you know your way around these big cats bro. Safe travels. Ken.
Hi Jeff. For that kinda money I'd make them radiator gaskets myself, Garlok is cheap. At least that's how we'd have done er in Dutch harbor! Cheers bud!
Jeff is so popular he has his own fan 😂 Hey Jeff iso-key... 😅
good choice using the service truck. better control, less chance of something bad happening.
Tie a string on your finger to remember to shut off the disconnect. The problem.....gotta remember why you tied the string on your finger ..... 👍
Jeff, thanks for another great D9 video! Perhaps Quinton at Iron King (You Tube) can help you out with parts.
Pc engine with LED ligt set up love it
Old Jpaydirt Making Old Iron Great Again !
Fix it now while your there, or later when it's most inconvenient. 😮
100% There are no shortcuts.

Always an adventure buying unknown stuff. Hopefully when the side covers come off there aren’t too many surprises.
Die cool and red cat antifreeze are the same thing u are on the right track clean and replace accordingly 🤙
I have had good luck with those seperable belts for the ac/ alt drives on various machines over the years that require pulling a bunch of crap to change the belt.
I always keep that stuff on the van for emergency fan belts to keep customers out of trouble.
It works well on large pulleys on slower speed engines.
Don't for get Jeff to turn the power off👍👍👍
Right on
Squatch253 got that gasket making down to a science! Time is money pick your poison.
Good work Jeff!

What a mess.
Save the back.
Hopefully some of that rain helps the runway.

LED lights are the bomb (as it used to be said by the kids). Get a sign and hang on Mr Griffy to remind you to turn off the lights.

I hope you have a glass bead blaster to help clean that stuff up!
Crane every time "horsepower not manpower" Griffy not snoozing, he's checking for leaks.

As paydirt predicted........the oil cooler is a real mess. The deeper you dig, the more that is found.
You should have been around when CAT used the Doweltherm 209 = corrosion and blocked water passages lost may engines due to Doweltherm 209
I have seen dex-kill do that if someone mixes it with green or red coolant.
You should call this tractor the “Hornet’s Nest” for obvious reasons.
you are still young, wait till you get old,you will forget things all the time

Griffeys g oing to chase the fan away by barking at it lol
I've heard bad things about Dexcool and it does seem to corrode more than the green stuff.

I leave my strobe light switch on and only turn it off with the master switch.
Is there something wrong with me if rebuilding the D9 looks like fun?
Jeff, you sound just like me when I’m working!

oh yah
hi jeff are you going to REBILED THIS D9 or use for parts trackto???
Not familiar with seeing a fan system like that so what does the blades rotate for
Was common on older crawlers. Changes direction of air flow from push air out the front for summer, to pull the warm air through the front towards the engine and operator.

Jeff. U are.out of the grader did you shut the key & master switch off ?
I got it I got it I don't got it ! 🤕
ANYBODY who would put Dexcool in any heavy duty application should swing in my opinion. I guess if it matters I am 1st and second. Not that I care...
Turn the key off!
