In my youth I worked for a company that had 6 CAT dozers and other kit too, we had two men who worked full time on side frames, one welder who was always repairing idler wheels and track frames, side frames are no joke to fix but a real blessing when they work well.
Might try on the tough bolt extraction that breaks off three nuts, drill out center of bolt then weld on nut, thus allowing center cavity space for bolt to shrink into.
I spent many many hours doing these very same jobs. All the build up welding, so tedious but when you get it all assembled and things are tight, great feeling. Those freaking slide wear pieces. Done lots of those too. We had an old 14H so worn out you couldn’t keep the brass and shims in place. Of course company grader so just run it. Funny how they never self heal.

I used 3M cubitron II fibre disc that had the quick lock change. These things are Expensive but they don't tend to load up and dull like other disc or pads. 3M has some really good products for grinding.
You need the 3M Cubitron 36 grit pad with the polycarbonate back you can just replace the pad they rip through 3/8” of steel in 2 seconds and yes you can make steel flat I use them daily
So did you find out what those new shims are made out of? Brass is definitely best, soft so not to wear out the steel and brass is basically self lubricating when it comes to friction.
It seems you are going to put the U blade on. Keep in mind the U blade will tare the tire up on the scraper while push loading while slightly off straight
Yeah that’s creosote on that slide…just bought all new pins for my excavator and one was all nasty like that in a bag….should of cleaned it in some gasoline that gunk is sticky.
love all the work you do and were the same age pain disorder slowed me down but the brain keeps us going. dont forget lots of tin man lube on every bolt and a little on you for good luck. cheers buddy.
@@Jpaydirt ok, thanks, I picked up a 1969 Galion 503A grader and it looks like it just has a screen in the tank… weird. I thought maybe someone removed the filter but the configuration is looking more like it never came with one… I enjoy your videos! I wanted to do some dirt work on our property we purchased a few years ago and started picking up old equipment to do so. Theres a lot to learn in the heavy equipment world so I watch your videos and others to learn as much as I can. Thanks! Ps, maintaining multiple machines is a full time job haha I have 8 machines now and it’s hard to keep up with repairs and maintenance, you make it look easy! But it’s not

Watching your assembly calms me when I think about my time building my car , wanting to do it 1 time and right. I'm to old to mess around.

Amen to that, most of the nasayers couldn’t put blades on a mower let alone wrangle the stuff Jeffrey handles.
The qubitron is a sanding pad. Pipelining we call them a Tiger Paw. They do remove some metal. But wear out kind of quick.
whats your recomendation for a hard wheel to remove material?

You can get the Qubitron in a old style flat disk that you can get to cut flat. 3M 78468-Q
I think Oilite bronze turns black like that sitting on the shelf, maybe that is what the guides are made of?
