    A bit late for the party but....
    These little towers are favourites for DIY improvements. You can add a crossover network to improve the tweeter response, use silicon bonded hardboard panels inside (aka constrained layer damping) to kill box resonances, pad the inside of the box to even out the mids, and so on.
    Buy the pair for $150, add about $30 worth of improvements... and you got a pretty decent sounding pair of speakers.

    The floor-standing speakers I have are the SONY SS-CS3 speakers.

    Good, decent speakers. These would be a good starter pair for someone just getting into home theater or someone who likes music & movies but isn't a die hard, fanatic audiophile.

    I actually was considering buying those until I picked up a pair of cheap tower polks which did not sound bad. I put those as my surround speakers when I got my mirages back. For those who want the surrounds to be tower instead of book shelf they would be perfect. Dayton is suppose to have good subs at a cheap price. I heard about them reading sound and vision

    I have the air. I separated them approximately 8 ft apart & 12 inches from the wall. I also found out they need to be 16 inches higher,I'm going to do that too. So far I'm getting results. Just need to get them off the ground. I'm about to get a subwoofer.
    Thx for this review

    I got the same speakers (Pair) off of Amazon for 53.00 something they are like new i don't really have space for them but i just couldn't pass them up if i'm being honest, I however may end up giving them to my brother which right now have space to make use of them fully.
    Right now Amazon is sold out of this speaker.

    I grabbed these on a whim a long time ago. Gave them to my dad and hooked them up to an Integra receiver and a powerful crown amp. These things like power. Sounded damn good with 500 watts per side.

    • @TimpBizkit
      @TimpBizkit Год назад +1

      The thing about powerful amplifiers is it removes any crunchiness or distortion from well within the safe operating range of the speakers. This means any complaints or bad quality sound at higher volume is the limitation of the speakers and provided an incompetent oaf isn't in charge of the volume level, you will get the most out of the speakers by never being ham strung by the amplifier. You do have to be a bit more sensitive to the speaker's limitations if they are used at a party, and be aware of more compressed material. Of course if you listen quietly, then there is no point.
      I put a peavey IPR1600 on two bass face spl 69.1. I was expecting it to be as loud as ever at 10dB from the maximum and the cones to be looking near their limits. Strangely it took it all the way to DDT light and it seemed like the amp wasn't giving them that much power over an SMSL SA98E. The speakers did start to smell a bit warm though at this level. I can only surmise that the DDT comes in early whereas an unlimited amp I had been cranking into substantial crunch zone to get more power.

    After seeing those speakers for $150 not bad I have a pair of my sides and a pair of my backs the exact same brand the exact same speakers they're not going to blow you away for the price but if you keep your expectations low you will really much enjoy them if you get the better versions of those they have a little bit of better sound then those plus they can handle a lot more.

    • @DJMichaelMcClain
      @DJMichaelMcClain 2 года назад

      And for how they're hooked up inside was one of my biggest surprises of those as well there is no crossover or anything of that inside they are connected from the Tweeter to the first woofer to the second woofer straight to the terminals no joke I have seen them inside and they work well for what they are keep in mind they do have a cap inside those for the Tweeter but they still work pretty well.

    If you still have the Dayton T652's, a mod You should consider doing, and showing the how to of process, is simply swapping out the bass drivers for ones that make the whole speaker be 8Ohms instead of 6. (So a random person who gets them can drive them easy.) Some nice paper cones would provably sound better than the stock ones too. The mod I am currently considering is removing all drivers, (placed into storage for future mods), filling the cabinets with sand, and sealing all the holes, Tada! Speaker stands that are just the right height for the better Big Boi MTM bookshelf's I gotz.

It actually sounded pretty good! She recently upgraded to some smaller speakers from Revel and they do sound noticeably better but not substantially so. She wanted smaller, white speakers since the system is in her living room and that was the main reason for the upgrade.
