Finally a man who just breaks it down and is honest. Everyone else just beats around the bush and avoids all questions on cost. Respek.
& I don't know why, ,
SO TRUE DUDE!
Mkkk
💯. Few people like this man. Great videos.
I LOVE HOW HONEST AND TRANSPARENT HE IS! DEFINITELY NOT SOMETHING THE MAJORITY OF RUclips DOES! YOU'LL GET PLACES...
Sameer Hira Thank you so much for the kind words I appreciate that so much
Good video! And finally someone who actually breaks down cost with real numbers. Shop, driveway and fence turned out great.... keep up the good work!!
Thank you I’m glad you got some value out of it. Share it with your friends you know
I had 14 years with Winn Dixie then moved to Frito lay .Worked a second job on the side and learned how to reupholster furniture so now we have our own business with a 3 month waiting list.I have the cash for a shop but feel like we would be over built in our Sub.
That’s awesome you’re working for yourself now. We have some vintage furniture and it definitely needs reupholstered
A Glimpse Inside Kentucky is a drive for you 😳
So excited for you! This is amazing man. Really love the "life with chapters" I'm a huge proponent of that. And also.. the "taking my investments and investing in myself." Much love brother. Gonna stop now before I cry.
Don’t cry man. Or if you want to go ahead. I know I got emotional watching my last couple videos watching my kids. LOL. Thanks brother hope you’re doing well
Isn’t that everyone’s goal to get a saw that doesn’t cut a hot dog. I’m so excited for you.❤️
That should be everyone’s goal LOL thank you so much Mrs. Dunlow
To be honest it's a goal not to need a saw like that
jack frost that’s true too. Powermatic it is!
As a professional woodworker, my #1 goal is to keep my hot dog in one piece .... I have 2 sawstop saws.
@@cabbyhubby after using table saws for almost 40 years with just one kickback, I had that special moment while doing a stopped cut and now I own a sawstop too. Two of my fingers are now are a little shorter and I am reminded daily of how blessed I am to have ten fingers.
Whoa whoa whoa where’d you find a wife who basically said “honey take the money out and spend on whatever you want?”
I'll never understand questions like this. It was HIS money, he worked for it and made the decision at a young age to invest. She had nothing to do with it. She will however benefit from his wise decisions in the past.
Kevin and u r married?
@@Papa-Kev You are obviously single. Real life doesn't work like that.
Yea doesn’t work like that, once you choose to get married ANYTHING you do or did becomes a combined thing. You don’t get to look at things like that. I wish you the best of luck when you get married 😅
There’s definitely two schools of thought here
I absolutely love tour transparency with pricing, and what it took to get your shop. I’ve been a fan since the beginning, and it’s so great to see your growth and progression over the last few years. Keep up the great work buddy!
We're so grateful that you feel comfortable enough to share all the details and your dreams! Thanks for letting us come along for the ride :-)
Of course, nothing in life is above Being honest
Awesome video! Awesome shop! Showing this to my wife, telling her "we are in NE Florida, so would cost about same!" She looked, smiled, nodded and went back to her book. Lol. Nice job.
That’s too funny Mike thanks for sharing
Nice Shop Chris! Thanks for sharing your costs with the community. Amazed that you were you able to come in under budget, especially hiring out a lot of the labor. Always inspired by your content and enthusiasm. Looking forward to seeing what;s next.
This guy has an excellent channel. Friendly, energetic, open about everything, answers all the questions he can to help, and has some pretty good projects. Keep up the good work.
It is so refreshing to see a man who no matter where he is in life is so grateful for what he has. It is a rare quality in today's world. Congratulations again man.
Thank you Jay W for appreciate that that is so true about me
Thanks man I appreciate your transparency!! I recently stumbled across your channel while watching some other videos and I am enjoying your videos!! I recently did similar to what you did and got a 14x30 portable garage fir my shop and I have not regretted it yet!! I cant waut to see what you do next. Thank again man
What’s up Chris good name. That’s awesome you got your shop as well. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for being along for the ride here as well
Good video series. The very best of luck to you and your family! We all look forward to more videos.
Love how candid you are. Great energy. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Chris, New to your channel!! Thank you for your honesty, humility, and of course humor! Congratulations on your new shop! It is a dream of mine to have a shop someday!! Wishing you and your family the best!
Thank you again Charlie
Men Brother, im so glad for you and your new shop, honestly i got some stuff from you, your idea from you work than inspired me, so i can say thank you brother for every project than you share here in RUclips. God bless you....!
That is absolutely awesome. Thank you for letting me know. That is the goal. To reach out and hopefully people gain something from these videos. Again thank you for letting me know
Men = 2 or more
Man = 1
Awesome job Chris! Love the personal aspect. Love the insight. Love the building. Wish you well, my friend.
I just luckily stumbled across your channel and I couldn't be happier. You truly do an awesome job presenting and I just feel the passion you have when you talk. Just my 2nd video but I can already tell what I will be passing my time watching for the foreseeable future! Keep up the awesome work brother!!
Thank you very much for your insight. I just built a 24x30 shop and have been looking for spray foam prices, every company said it can vary from $1000-$10,000. Trying to get a rough estimate is ridiculous. Congratulations on the shop, looks fantastic.
I just want to give and say thank you. You’ve inspired me and have given me hope and encouragement. I’m 21 (22 tomorrow) I’ve been working since I was 15, I love hard work. I’m now with blue diamond almonds making decent money but the main thing I was wanting was a 401k. I have always had a dream of buying my first property young and building a shop on the side so that I can do hobbies I enjoy but being this young and not knowing much about life or finances Is scary and really discourages me. Watching the previous video of the building process made me assume you did well for yourself as a building contractor or something along those lines. Now seeing that you can have a occupation like manager of a grocery chain and succeed in personal life goals like building a shop is just so amazing. Just a little less stress for me when I think about the future. Thank you again for inspiring me and for opening up to your audience. I wish you nothing but success and happiness for you and your family. Take care brother.
This is very heartwarming to hear you say. I’m glad this video has had some affect. Now is the time when you’re young. And yes I simply made my way up through a retail grocery chain and not some real estate investment firm or something like that. I really am just a regular guy trying to make it in the world
Yoboy 1998, learning how to make money investing isn't too hard. I bought a book "investing for dummies " and taught myself. A couple of rules that can help save your butt are. 1, never invest money you can't afford to lose. 2, when buying stocks, always have a goal, how much you want to make $ amount. How much loss you will accept, $ amount. ALWAYS set goals before you buy. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS follow your goals. Don't get greedy, sell when you reach your profit goal. Sell when or before you reach your loss gold. Always do your research (due diligence) on stocks before investing. Learn how to read charts and where to find financial information on Companies. It's not hard. In fact, I had fun doing it. Just remember, your major goal is to make more than you lose. Stick to your goals and you will. Risks can be high, so can profits. It is a matter of how much risk you are willing to take. Good luck if you take the plunge. Please, learn before you do this.
I love your story and how you took a chance and ventured out to test your skills at that time. I love your channel and wish you and your family luck, health, and happiness.
You are the man! Good job on the project and congrats on completing it! I subbed due to your honesty and openness! Looking forward to more vids!
Love the passion behind what you do. You inspire a lot of confidence!
Thank you so much Courtney those are really kind words and I appreciate that
Thank You for sharing this information. It felt like an open honest conversation.
That was the goal. Thank you for giving me the feedback I appreciate
Great video Chris. Appreciate the honesty and the detail. Can’t wait to see the next chapter! 👍💪
Thanks for sharing your story, and not just your video. The hardest part is making that leap of faith. Sometimes it works... and sometimes not. Good thing publix was there for you at the end. And congratulations again on the new shop!
Thanks for actually going in to the detail and breaking down the cost of everything.
You got it buddy thanks for watching
Thanks for giving the true facts of cost involved in your project. Nice setup. I am glad Publix took you back. Thanks again.
Thank you brother yeah me too man. Glad to be back
I hope you and your family are safe during this pandemic. I stumbled across your videos and instantly subscribed. I look forward to move videos!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your honesty! You are by far one of my favorite pages now. I respect you fully. Everything you do is going to be blessed Brother.
Really appreciate the story my friend. I am so happy for you getting that shop. Also sounds like you work for one heck of a company.
Most definitely. We will be in touch soon my friend. The company is fantastic and I hope you guys can be welcomed with open arms as well. Talk to you soon brother
This is amazing man, thank you for the breakdown and transparency. This was a great investment in yourself and the proof and how proud you are of it is right there on your face. So happy for you! I'm in Melbourne, FL so not sure how far out that is from you, but if you ever need a hand on a project, I'd be happy to help.
I’m up in Jacksonville. Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate you letting me know that he thought it was a good decision. I was wondering what the community would think of this and so far so good
Great job Chris. Best of luck to you with the channel. I will be following!
I appreciate the honest breakdown, the best one I've seen on YT so far!
Thanks for sharing your story. My 16X20 shop was built with money from my grandmother's will. I did most of the labor myself. You are right about starting early. I am an accountant by day and know the time value of money. If young people would do the math, they all would start early.
It takes a ton of courage to not just do what you did, but to also share the behind the scenes info and open yourself up to the inevitable judgment. Well I am very happy you did, it's so nice to feel like I was right there having a beer with you listening to your plans and ideas. Kudos to you sir, enjoy the fruits of your labors! P.s. - I am so happy that you were able to get your job back and what an amazing thing for that company to do! :-)
That is a great analogy. Makes me feel like it’s reaching out the way I had intended. Now if I can just come up with how to have a virtual beer we might be onto something
@@AGlimpseInside haha now a THERE'S a million dollar idea if ever heard one :-) Do you have any plans in the works for a Florida meet up? Any excuse to fly down from this northwestern winter is a this excuse x
Thank you for taking us along on the journey of a lifetime. It turned out fantastic and to have your family encourage you is priceless. Just remember though that you bared your soul (and wallet) to us when you didn't need too. Can't wait to see where the next chapter takes us.
One thing I didn’t tell people is that my 401(k) was roughly about 30% of my portfolio. I can tell you I don’t think people will go fishing for this comment. And the return on investment is about 500% more than I was getting per month because of this RUclips channel
What an amazing video, this one and the one where you built your shop. Your attitude is a breath of fresh air, and no doubt why you are doing well. Oh, and your children are adorable. I'm very happy for you and your family!
I spent 40 years in the grocery business in the St louis area and I've always heard that Publix was a great place to work, I'm happy that all worked out for you. I'm now retired and too late for me to pull this off but I'm excited as hell for you. Now I love your wife too. Looking forward to your new videos.
Yes she is the absolute mastermind of everything around here. She is fantastic. Thank you Mike I appreciate you and your kind words. Glad to know we were in the same industry
Schnucks? I’m also in STL
Devin Richter my wife is with Schnuck’s, I was with Shop n Save
publix is the best
Thank you for being so open and honest.
You got it absolutely
Awesome videos and shop! Smart planning and implementation! I appreciate the details of the costs. Helps give viewers and ideas/numbers to consider. Congratulations and good luck with the new shop and the future building fun!
Thank you James I appreciate that my friend
Your transparency and humility made this video for me!! I was hooked after your intro! Praying for your family’s continued success!!!
Thank you so much I appreciate those kind words
Great summary. Don't forget the 10% penalty for early withdrawal from 401k so there goes the extra $5k but still in budget. Well done.
That 10% was put away upon receiving the check. It was like I never had it. Thank you so much
@@AGlimpseInside I cashed out my ESOP instead of the 401K, the tax man got a nice check from me that year. but hey, i paid off some 10k in debt that was hanging over my head. still got that 401K with like 70% in Publix stock. debating rolling it over to my current employers 401k and some Vanguard options within that.
@Mike toni I was thinking the exact same thing
@Tone Loc why you say that? I want to learn a better way .can you explain?
@@AGlimpseInside plus have to count as income this year
Thanks bro for the updated video I really appreciate the breakdown 🔨🔨🔨🔨
You got it man. Thanks for watching
That shop is fantastic. I also love that you shared your situation. Getting candid like that and showing some vulnerability is huge when connecting. We appreciate your trust in all of us and sharing that with it. I think that it is just awesome, and speaks volumes, about your company taking you back without a blink and continuing forward. That is a huge thing and it is great for Publix to do that for you. It shows that you are special to them. Overall, very awesome and so happy for you and your family to be able to have the shop and I hope it can help make some money for you in the future. Keep up the great work and we'll be watching the future videos to come.
You hit the nail on the head my friend. Thank you so much for the kind words the fact that I was excepted back so quickly does speak to the type of manager/associate I was and continue to be. I really do appreciate you recognizing that. Feels good to get this shop complete and my second wind in my new career
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing! Excited to see where this new chapter takes you!
Thank you so much I am too
Wow. What a trip. Glad the job situation worked out. I hop this shop affords you the opportunity to rebuild that hit your retirement took. I’m confident it will. I’m a fan of investing in tools that can make you money. And I know you’re doing just that. I’ll have to go back and see what I missed.
Thanks Chad I appreciate it brother great to see you over the weekend at the conference to
My friend that was a great job, i love the way you kept it real, didn't hold back on the total amount and broke it down. I wish you and your family the best of luck and pray you continue going forward with success. i also love the way you n your wife work together in making the decisions. thats what real partners do. God Bless
I'm so happy for you and yours, brother! I too am very thankful for Publix because if not for them, we would have never met! I truly feel that you enrich my life. I can't wait to see all of the new projects that you embark on in your new shop.
Awesome shop! Thanks for sharing your cost. I wish you and your family all the best.
I'm a Stock Controller at a very popular grocery chain here in Texas, HEB. It's the best company I've ever worked for, so I completely get your enthusiasm for your company. I'm looking forward to seeing content from your new shop bro.
Mike Leas I’m in East Texas and know well of HEB as my mother in law life’s in Cuero but we don’t have any up here. Had never heard of Publix until last may when the wife and I went to northern Alabama for a graduation. Those things are everywhere! Guess they start in Mississippi. Seen them in Pensacola as well.
@@dustinwalden7091 Cool man, I live 30 minutes from Cuero, in Victoria. The new(ish) HEB in Cuero is beautiful! Yeah, this is the first I've heard of Publix myself. Good to see retail companies taking care of their employees.
Mike Leas they say HEB won’t come to us because they have to be a certain distance from Brookshires. Yeah we know Victoria well lol. Not a lot of places to shop in cuero.
Thank you Mike. Thank you for letting me know and I hope all is well with you. Glad to see you and someone else are having a nice conversation down there as well. Just FYI Publix started in Winterhaven Florida in 1930. Which is really close to Lakeland
@@dustinwalden7091 Dustin Walden I have heard that about HEB and Brookshire's. Funny thing is I've never been in a Brookshire's, lol. Chris that's cool bro, fun fact about HEB: the name stands for Henry E. Butt, who took over the company in 1915. My kids like saying, let's go to H. E. BUTT, lol!
Congratulations my friend, I cannot wait to see what delights you will be able to make in such a fantastic space.
Am I jealous?..... oh hell yeah I can only wish to have a workshop that size!!!
It took a lot of years to get it but yes I understand your jealousy. I can’t wait to get out there and make all kinds of stuff as well

Hi Chris, love watching & learning. Thank you 😊
Chris, like I said before great build, living in Dallas TX now but after watching I’m sure craving a Publix sub now. Lived in Florida my whole life !
Sorry to bring back all those memories. I think I’m going to have an Italian tomorrow please don’t be mad LOL
Pretty awesome of Publix to do that for you! I wish they were around Missouri so I could support such a stand up company!
Yes I am so very thankful. Who knows maybe we will get up there someday
Awesome breakdown of the cost! A lot of these RUclipsrs are making decent enough money that I can’t relate to their videos anymore because they are using stuff that I just can’t afford yet. So great job on this one man!!!
Man you are an inspiration. Great videos. You have one more subscriber right here. Congrats on everything!
Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I was wondering what the rough cost would be add some pavers around here.
Probably a bit more brother you have frost to deal with. Thanks again
@@AGlimpseInside Good to know, thanks

Wow Brother nice BIG shop I love it,Have fun Building stuff I'm very happy for you Bro, Take care Family much love I will see you again layer :)
What’s up TJ thanks for reaching out brother I always appreciate hearing from you
Really interesting breakdown. Some stuff was way more than I thought it would be and some stuff less.
I thought the exact same thing. The fencing seem that expensive as well the Concrete seemed pretty steep. However I got multiple quotes and the best deal for every trade believe it or not
akbychoice my dad had similar pavers installed in his driveway in California . Slightly more sq. Cost about $20k
@@akbychoice The pavers were definitely the most surprising.
Thanks for your honesty, and great videos, also your personality that makes your videos what they are.

Thank you so much sir. I really appreciate the kind words and all the feedback. It really does mean a lot and I hope you are doing well in this crazy time my friend
That was actually a heck of a lot cheaper than I expected. I always forget that in the US your standard outlets are 110v whereas here in the UK, outlets are 240v
Which poses a great question: here, things like the clothes dryer, the oven (if electric), the 4HP tablesaw get 220/240. In the UK can you get like a 9 HP planer that needs 480V? Or the kind of stuff that in the US we would use 3-phase for?
Chris, thanks for the cost breakdown my friend. Much respect, I did that 22 years ago and uncle Sam spanked me real good!!! Lolol, but I love your new shop my friend!! Take care and God Bless. 👍👍 Jay.
Yeah that uncle is everyone’s uncle if you know what I’m saying. Thanks for watching brother

So proud of you and your wife! Thank you so much this has inspired me to follow my dreams of my own studio. Peace and many blessings
Awesome story, I'm moving back to Orlando after being in the Navy. About to buy a house and love the work shop set up. Great content man, shoutout to publix subs 😤🤙
Thank you so much. Everybody really does love those sandwiches
Glad this worked out for you and love the shop. But I would caution viewers that in general it's not a good idea to finance a project by taking money out of a 401k. The 10% fee plus the taxes in addition to not getting the gains from the investment are way more costly than a personal loan even with a high 6% interest rate. Best to look at a few options and do the math to see what works for you.
Most definitely. That’s why I only recommend it if the situation is right for you. If what you can invest in will outperform what you were gaining each month buy a good amount. It’s definitely worth having consideration. That was our situation here. But thank you for the warning to the viewers as well
I scanned the entire comments looking for someone to give this bit of advice. I'm afraid most people watching this video are going to think it's a good idea to take your 401k our early. 95% of the time it's a huge mistake unless you don't mind working that same job when you are 75 years old.
He re-invested in his own property and is going to gain instant equity in a more stable investment . Not a bad move at all.
@@charlesvela It is only equitable if he sells his house. Without knowing his finances I wonder why he didn’t go with a second mortgage. Everything I’ve read says unless you are willing to double the amount you had going into retirement once you’ve taken the money out then you will never recoup the potential gains had you left it alone. Everyone has their own financial priorities and different levels to tolerable risks and uncertainties. This guy does not seem like a dummy so I’m Sure he has a plan. Nice shop, congrats and enjoy. Many of us will live vicariously through you....I just subscribed.
@@charlesvela Good mutual funds would gain more than this adds in equity by a lot. A good mutual fund nearly doubles your investments over a seven year period. The 10k penalty, the amount withdrawn, and loss in compounding interest is an impossible speeding car to catch, even immediately reinvesting you will never catch up.
Love your channel. One of my favorites. Ready for more builds. Keep it coming
Such an awesome space buddy! You know how happy I am that things worked out for y’all. Much love bro!!

Sitting in my tiny woodwork shed after being made redundant a month ago. I don’t have the skills or experience to go out by myself, it you’re still an inspiration
When you bleed green like you do Chris is too damn hard to stay away 😂 so happy for you!!
What’s up Candace. How are you. Hope you’re doing well down there and yes of course I believe Green just like the rest of them
If you ever need a hand behind the camera I'd love to help. I live off kernan here in Jacksonville Florida. I noticed the 904 area codes lol
Thank you Jon I appreciate that. I used to live over there too. Again I appreciate the offer
Nice job, thanks for taking the time to do this video.

That is a lot of good information. And, although you "spent " the money, your home value increased (probably not 45k, but 20 to 30k), so your total net worth didn't take a huge hit for all the value you got!
I like the way you think. Thank you so much for giving that insight
By the way, your cost is right on par with mine.
That’s good to know. Thanks for letting me know
awesome video, great breakdown and love your energy man!!
Thank you SO much for this vulnerability and transparency. So helpful for folks who are trying to figure out how to live their dreams too.
