I thought that this was one the best Dionne Warwick songs of the mid-1980s. She gave it a modern sound and I did notice the man in the blue light playing the synthesizer or keyboard. That synthesized sound had really come into its own in the 1980s and this was a "Solid Gold" performance if there ever was one.🙂 Thanks to the Michael Miller Time Machine for unearthing this from the vault of the videotape era! Well done by everyone involved.
Thank you for your ever-observant thoughts of positivity!
@@bigeyezzzzzzz You are welcome! "Solid Gold" was definitely a show that exhuded positive energy and that still does through these online uploads that are steeped in the past but still have much relevance in the present.
I love how the singer stands almost still and lets the song unfold its own magic.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
See me outside whispering in the dark like a fool at my age lol. Thanks alot Dionne lol
One of the best songs ever!
So right ❤
Wow. Miss Dionne was so devastatingly gorgeous!! And how she just laid out that track making it look so easy and so smooth. The more I watch her old videos is the more I understand how Whitney became Whitney.
Miss Dionne still pure class and this song best on the album ❤❤❤❤
Best sing ever made! A song is like a warm, soothing blanket.
My singer all of time
I felt the arrangement worked better than the Johnny Carson one. Amazing song either way, and should have been a huge hit!
This is truly like fine wine, it only gets better.
A drop of dew on the lilac blossom petal.
Here now listening ❤❤❤
I think, after watching this video again, that the song "Whisper In The Dark" was very befitting for Dionne Warwick in March 1986 and some parts of it have a harmony that foreshadows her 1987 duet with Howard Huett, "Another Chance To Love". That is just in a brief part of the song and the song here, "Whisper In The Dark" has a very nice choral effect, especially toward the end of the song. It was part of a more edgy sound for Dionne, but the 1985-1986 season showcased a lot of her edginess musically, from her original songs like this one to covers of rock and roll songs of that era to a duet with Frank Sinatra to a special version of "We Are The World" with the International Children's Choir to "Hands Across America" to the 2-hour Christmas special to the 2-hour Countdown '85 featuring that special "We Are The World" rendition to the 2-hour summer specia all the way to the end of the season, one of the best of the series.
This was also always one of my favorites I did for Dionne!
@@bigeyezzzzzzz Yes, and it showed. I think that might have been the first time on television that Dionne performed her new song, and if so, a debut on "Solid Gold" was the best place for that.
The Lorenzo Lamas introduction had a little pun mixed in, alluding to the CBS Friday night soap opera, "Falcon Crest", of which he played Lance Cumson, the grandson of the tough-as-nails matriarch of the show, Angela Channing, played by golden age of Hollywood actress and ex-wife of then-President Ronald Reagan, Jane Wyman.
I loved the dramatic opening and closing theme by Bill Conti and opening title cards visual opening from "Falcon Crest", as I caught a lot of the later episodes when they aired and earlier episodes in re-runs and later online. Interestingly, Earl Hamner, Jr., who had created the original "The Waltons" CBS-TV series, which aired from 1972 to 1981 was also the creator of "Falcon Crext", which aired from 1981 to 1990. My mother was a fan of both shows, as was/am I.
Marilyn McCoo just recently appeared in two "Waltons" new specials, including the Thanksgiving special on the CW network, with Billy Davis, Jr., one of her former Fifth Dimension bandmates and husband of over 53 years.
As for Dionne on this "Solid Gold" episode that featured Lorenzo Lamas as a guest host, there is a clip that has circulated online that shows Dionne telling him that he made her nervous, in a good way, and that she laughed nervously while standing next to Lorenzo Lamas, who was a really popular actor at the time because of "Falcon Crest". That was provided through the Instagram of the Dionne Warwick Archive.
Anyway, "Whisper In The Dark", had that rather unique ending, with Dionne doing her own repeat lyrics live instead of them pre-recorded, or so it appeared. There was no auto-tune back then, so singers had to really sing, and Dionne Warwick could really sing well and looked fabulous, as always. The arrangement and the song were excellent. Thank you, Michael and Dionne and back-up singers and the entire "Solid Gold" crew, a class act, as always.
And we all thank you right back, Jason, for all of your kind positivity!
@@bigeyezzzzzzz You are welcome for that. That says a lot. Your show and theme song and combination of talents were unique and done very well.
What a performance
I love these clips huge Dionne fan ! Thanks! I keep forgetting to comment 😃 ! ❤️
Wow is not enough
Beautiful!
Incantevole Dionne Warwick...voce incredibile e talento sconfinato: anche bellissima.
Thank you, thank you.
Wow, I wasn't even born yet.

Another lovely gown❤️I remember seeing this on the original airdate. Not one of her better songs but at that time Arisra was bowing to Whitney Houston.. she was getting most of the attention...
Perhaps "not one of her better songs" I agree, but beautifully put together, and well sung.
Besides, she had a new album, a new song, and a huge platform to showcase them, so...gotta get it out there the best way you can.
I mean Whitney was a new artist and Clive was pushing Whitney .... Dionne was already a seasoned artist. But at the same time to think both cousins signed to the same label at a time. What a MOMENT.
one of her best songs
We're lucky to have you now with all this wonderful posting, and we were most assuredly lucky to have you then with all that spot-on arranging. Please have a gander at my comment I left for you earlier beneath the Dionne/Isaac Hayes "Never Gonna Give You Up" number.
Thank you so much, and I responded to your beautiful message on that other post!
Dionne/Issac Hayes? 🤔 It was Barry White.
@@michaelwarren7962 I regretted it right after I typed it.
@@johncarroll1403 Lol, I know the feeling! Since I learned to use the edit thingy on my smartphone, I make use of it a lot now.

Well, better "Whisper in the Dark" than "Piano in the Dark", I suppose. "Left in the Dark" would have been a good choice for Dionne, although I don't know if she ever did cover any of Jim Steinman's works.
Did Dionne & yourself receive residuals after Solid Gold's ending?
Sorry, although there are a lot of questions I’m willing to answer about my involvement with Solid Gold, questions about financial matters are not included.
