They didn’t get the message. How is this industry going backwards in everyway? This was considered pop. Such a shame how the industry is lying to us about what good music is considered today.
Dionne Warwick's 'That's What Friends Are For' is an absolute classic! The combination of her powerful vocals, the heartfelt lyrics, and the collaboration with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Gladys Knight creates a timeless piece of music that resonates with the true essence of friendship.
Cindy Bemiller, I'm referring to the unmatched, inimitable, unique, second to none peerless Gladys Knight. Like Bruce points out, she starts singing at 2:44.
Sadly, we no more have music like this in this our time - voices very harmonized; passing good message; appealing to emotion. Their expressions, smiling faces, thrill me the most . Kudos to these oldtime legends.
paul emmanuel I completely agree with you, tears come in my eyes when I hear this song that has a real emotional appeal. I love all Bacharach melodies for that reason too ! Nowadays music has no more soul, no more real talent, just pieces of s..t ! 😬😢
Please forgive me for my poor English! I am originally from Russia, and I would like to express my admiration for these singers. When I listen to them, I feel that there is a special connection between them, a kind of magical energy that makes them incredibly happy at that moment. I would like to see more instances of that magical connection between people.
What a tremendous, timeless gem. I remember around 35 years ago traveling on a bus during peak hour one morning. The bus was packed full of commuters going about their daily business, then this song came on the radio. The bus driver cranked up the volume and suddenly the atmosphere on the bus changed. For a few brief minutes every single person on that bus forgot about what they were doing or thinking, and became lost in this sweet, euphonious masterpiece. The entire bus was silent and people began looking around at each other as though they all possessed a common understanding, and for a brief moment in time, we were all bonded together in blissful harmony. Then we got off the bus and went about our day, with what I like to imagine, a slightly different perspective of the world. A moment I'll never forget 💙
Dionne, Elton, Gladys, and Stevie Wonder gave a legendary performance of "What Friends Are For". Their voices blended together so effortlessly, creating a beautiful harmony. Watching them have a great time on set, smiling and laughing with each other, just added to the magic of the performance. The energy they brought was unforgettable! We, Filipinos look up to these musical icons and love them, and this collaboration between four legends just solidified that. It was a testament to the power of friendship and music to bring people together. Thank you for the timeless music.
Buried my beautiful 38 year old brother some years ago -all his friends gathered at the funeral someone brought a boom box and played this song for my brother Jim at his funeral , this song is truly iconic in every way -“that’s what friends are for” is and will be legendary for many many many years to come thank you Burt Bacharach for writing such a masterpiece and thank Dionne Warwick sir Elton John , Stevie wonder and Gladys knight for creating such a magnificent singing iconic song.🥀
May this legend be resting in peace thank you Burt Bacharach for being the genius that you were and still are, your beautiful music will live on forever RIP❤️
My best friend in elementary school used to go to her parents cabin in the Poconos. We sang this song at the top of our lungs from a tape on her tape recorder. We’re going on 40+ years of friendship. She’s my sister I never had.
Look at those facial expressions, this is not simply acted, the pure Love, happiness, respect and adoration for each other's talent shones through each pore and note. Absolutely love to see this, very moving to me, personally. 💙
I agree 100%...he has always been one of my favorite male singers, not only for his amazing range of pitch ( He can reach an E high natural ) that's a female soprano note, but also for the feeling he delivers when he's singing, doesn't matter what he sings...and also he plays many instruments... An amazing complete artist !
Eternal, and amazingly, still fresh after all this time. Four beautiful and extremely talented people who give unending pleasure to anyone wanting or needing it. Thanks to each and every one of these superstars.....
This song should be locked in a time capsule, greatest song of all time. It was good back then, in the present and in the future. A timeless piece no matter what decade/century you're in.
We are honoured and indeed, privileged, to witness four greatly talented people who share their talent with all of us. Long may they continue to do so!!!!!!
Watching this video feels like rediscovering a piece of my soul-every note brings back memories wrapped in time, flooding my heart with joy and nostalgia. It’s as if the music taps into an unspoken language that only my heart can understand, making me feel both alive and at peace.
30 years later and this song still gives me chills and gets me choked up- especially towards the end when Gladys gives it her all. I really feel sorry for people that didn't grow up during the 70's and 80's when artists were truly artists and sang really meaningful songs. What happened to it all?
Floyd Brennan i am so fortunate to have grown up in the 70's and 80's. These were the two best decades for music. Period....true talent right there. Beautiful, just beautiful...
I wish I grew up then. Because now I'm stuck growing up in a generation filled with trash music. I listen to 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s music, and I really agree that it's much better than what singers crank out now. You both are very lucky to have lived through such a time where music was blossoming and blooming and when it would touch your heart and make you cry or make you feel proud for who you are, or whatever its goal was. From all the information I've gathered, music used to be much more creative, but now it's just kinda getting to be the same thing over and over again. Real talent used to present itself and show its face... but now it remains in the dark, hidden and alone.
Songs nowadays sound like they are just talking. They are more wordy. Back then, the songs mostly were about emotions, passion, and Instrumental stuff! Not auto tune. There are some good songs nowadays but they are few and far between.

@@nickcaps5630 This is a prime example of somebody who spent most of their life inside and away from others as a child and didn't really know how to interact, upon discovering the loving and fun communities of social life and friend groups, they decide they want to be known by everyone as a cool person and have many friends that admire them and give them attention. However, because they spent a lot of their time on the internet and away from other people while not learning social rules and norms, they approach groups and people wrong by saying or doing something looked down upon and are told that what they did is wrong (most of the time in a good way but not always). Now this is where they hit a fork in the road, they either learn what they did was wrong and admit to it in order to become better and accepted by others therefore eventually forming into a person who connects with people positively and continues on to better things, or they lash out at the people who told them they were wrong because they were told no in a mean way or had parents who never declined them; So then they assume that the people who told them they did something wrong are the bad guys and their enemy.
Guess Elton is in it for a reason, three black singers and one white. Most would say it won't work but Elton John held his own and I personally don't think there would have been many if any apart from him that could have back then, hell even now I remember when it first come out sitting in a pub and hearing it for the first time and like many others in the pub were stunned by the strange mix especially in the era of racially divided but oh shit it brought us all together that night.
@stuartphillips822 and whether you like it or not he ain't no black singer. White singers and black singers don't always mix. I'm sure every black singer in the world listens to Elton John NOT.
Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder ❤ These 4 together are magic. Voices are in perfect harmony together & moved me to tears and Stevie on the harmonica just adds to this classic. I add this song to every playlist.
I can't tell you how many times I heard this song as a kid. This was a staple of adult contemporary radio back in the late 80s and early 90s, and that's exactly what my mother always listened to.
And I never thought I'd feel this way And as far as I'm concerned I'm glad I got the chance to say That I do believe, I love you And if I should ever go away Well, then close your eyes and try To feel the way we do today And then if you can remember Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure That's what friends are for For good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for Well, you came in loving me And now there's so much more I see And so by the way I thank you Oh and then for the times when we're apart Well, then close your eyes and know The words are coming from my heart And then if you can remember Keep smiling and keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure That's what friends are for In good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure That's what friends are for For good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure Cause I tell you, that's what friends are for Whoa, good times and the bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for 🖤💙

They didn’t get the message. How is this industry going backwards in everyway? This was considered pop. Such a shame how the industry is lying to us about what good music is considered today.
3:15 I can totally relate to that reaction Stevie has when Gladys finishes singing. I can't help getting goose bumps every time she sings.
i have tickets to see this Lady come June this year--CANT WAIT
Perfeito!.
Gladys is the best
Gladys Knight. So incredible. So beautiful. So honest. And look at how she looks at Stevie with as much honor and admiration. Beautiful.
Gladys Knight. is a beautiful lady
So cute!
Best comment! I peeped that
She's definitely one of my favorites
Beautiful song....
I love how Gladys just keeps smiling and when it comes to her turn to sing, she completely nails it.
I love how she finishes 🥰
2:50 her work is so good she made them hug
is gladys the one in the shades
Yes!!! Yes!!! She is so pretty just smiling; then WOW!
Was thinking exactly the same thing. Gives me goosebumps.
I couldn't remember the name of this song for 3hrs. Finally my heart is happy again. ❤
I love you Mom, wherever you are in Heaven Thank you for dedicating this song to Gloria and I on our wedding day 30 years ago
Robert Phillips ❤️❤️❤️❤️
lots of love for everyone
Dionne Warwick's 'That's What Friends Are For' is an absolute classic! The combination of her powerful vocals, the heartfelt lyrics, and the collaboration with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Gladys Knight creates a timeless piece of music that resonates with the true essence of friendship.
So True !! 😤🦋
Man, this song needs to b played on the radio these days, cause this world is so beyond sad right now!!! Lord have mercy!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭💖💖💖💖💖💖.

Love this! ❤️..still a classic! Heyyy Ms. Gladys, Mr. Stevie, Sir Elton and the incomparable Dionne Warwick 😍❤️😍🥰
Gladys Knight's voice is simply out of this world. Incredibly powerful and beautiful...
Cant not describe .....just one adjective AMAZING
Pete Mago her name is Dionne Warwick or or you on a different site! I’m that’s what friends are for maybe the replies are mixed up?
Cindy Bemiller, at 2:44 Gladys Knight starts singing and steals the show! 😁
Cindy Bemiller, I'm referring to the unmatched, inimitable, unique, second to none peerless Gladys Knight. Like Bruce points out, she starts singing at 2:44.
Yes it is
Sadly, we no more have music like this in this our time - voices very harmonized; passing good message; appealing to emotion. Their expressions, smiling faces, thrill me the most .
Kudos to these oldtime legends.
paul emmanuel You are so right ❤️❤️
Their chemistry made this song so beautiful :-)
Agree with you friend.. It so deep
paul emmanuel I completely agree with you, tears come in my eyes when I hear this song that has a real emotional appeal. I love all Bacharach melodies for that reason too ! Nowadays music has no more soul, no more real talent, just pieces of s..t ! 😬😢
Yes that's so true. This was real music and classic. Still the best
It's an honor to have lived on the same planet as these world music legends.
Yeah as if there are other singers in the other planets 😂
I agreed with you... it's an honor....
Me too
Oh my hell.... what a great comment!
@@TheSilencer1776 why?
Oh wow
Best review ever❤️❤️

Que lindo! Me arrepio só de imaginar
I lOVE that!!!!
Jeez-I cried. Again. Because this is one of the greatest songs of all time. Period.
So true! So true!!!
Yes i do cry too whenever i watch this clip,,,,,with a smile though...😅😉
Dionne, Elton, Gladys, and Stevie Wonder gave a legendary performance of "What Friends Are For". Their voices blended together so effortlessly, creating a beautiful harmony. Watching them have a great time on set, smiling and laughing with each other, just added to the magic of the performance. The energy they brought was unforgettable! We, Filipinos look up to these musical icons and love them, and this collaboration between four legends just solidified that. It was a testament to the power of friendship and music to bring people together. Thank you for the timeless music.
Not only Filipinos! As a Mexican we grew up with this beautiful music!
Absolutely timeless
My best friend in elementary school used to go to her parents cabin in the Poconos. We sang this song at the top of our lungs from a tape on her tape recorder. We’re going on 40+ years of friendship. She’s my sister I never had.
Look at those facial expressions, this is not simply acted, the pure Love, happiness, respect and adoration for each other's talent shones through each pore and note.
Absolutely love to see this, very moving to me, personally. 💙
Facts 💯🥰
You are so kind I love you ❤️ I wish if you are my friend ☺️

It's a mesmerising song of the Century... Love the lyrics ❤️
The best ever. Never a better song
There is no other decade which produced more sentimental music than the 80's. This song is 80's MAGIC!
Absolutely Sir never come back again.

@@IloveAutumn-b5p So true Sir
Umm, quite possibly the 1950s did, then I'd say the 60s were next, THEN the 1980s.
Their voices, their appearances, their joy, the warmth of their friendship... everything about this song and this video make me feel peace and calm.
rezza akbar say it again! Everyone pushed this track forward

Stevie Wonder's voice is absolutely incredible
Anwyko Trim god given gift, Stevie’s the greatest 😌
Yes its true
stevie is great, but imma object one of the greatest singers.... :)
His harmonica playing is fantastic-
I agree 100%...he has always been one of my favorite male singers,
not only for his amazing range of pitch ( He can reach an E high natural ) that's
a female soprano note, but also for the feeling he delivers when he's singing,
doesn't matter what he sings...and also he plays many instruments...
An amazing complete artist !
The Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight portion gave me chills! So beautiful! Elton and Dionne are amazing too of course.
Eternal, and amazingly, still fresh after all this time. Four beautiful and extremely talented people who give unending pleasure to anyone wanting or needing it. Thanks to each and every one of these superstars.....

You are absolutely correct!
And she sings so very joyfully, it's truely contagious.
At 48 yrs old this song still brings tears to my eyes as it digs deep into my soul. I really wish I knew what it feels like to have a real friend!
Gladys Knight has one of the most gorgeous smiles I've ever seen.

Gladys Knight is a pretty woman and really good singer
This song should be locked in a time capsule, greatest song of all time. It was good back then, in the present and in the future. A timeless piece no matter what decade/century you're in.

Trouble is people are not friendly anymore.

Moses you were spot on bro!!
I'm an 80's girl, back then we listened to music with our parents. Today i can't watch music with my kids because of nudity and explicit content.
Amen we grew up with the best music
Do they even make anything as beautiful as this anymore? Who’s with me April 24th, 2024 and missing the old days?
No. That simple.
Yes 🙌🏽🙌🏽 God Bless 🙌🏽🙌🏽 Amen 🙏🏾

Yes madam , i was kid of the 80s i cant tell you how much i loved it
This song still gives me chills. The voices are so talented. Absolutely love all the artists.
I agree! But for me when Gladys starts singing, with all that soul sound it just does something to me!;
I wish the world was still like this. What a time to be alive

Care about
Elthon John, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder e Gladys Knight: what an amazing group of singers!
Thank you.
Indeed!!
Guess Elton is in it for a reason, three black singers and one white. Most would say it won't work but Elton John held his own and I personally don't think there would have been many if any apart from him that could have back then, hell even now
I remember when it first come out sitting in a pub and hearing it for the first time and like many others in the pub were stunned by the strange mix especially in the era of racially divided but oh shit it brought us all together that night.
@stuartphillips822 and whether you like it or not he ain't no black singer. White singers and black singers don't always mix. I'm sure every black singer in the world listens to Elton John NOT.
❤
Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder ❤ These 4 together are magic. Voices are in perfect harmony together & moved me to tears and Stevie on the harmonica just adds to this classic. I add this song to every playlist.

I need to see all the people who appreciate good music.
I love beautiful 🎶!!!!
And I never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe, I love you
And if I should ever go away
Well, then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then if you can remember
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
Well, you came in loving me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way
I thank you
Oh and then for the times when we're apart
Well, then close your eyes and know
The words are coming from my heart
And then if you can remember
Keep smiling and keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
Cause I tell you, that's what friends are for
Whoa, good times and the bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
