- Welcome to the sugar bush!
Things are about to get very busy at the off grid tiny cabin.
It's hard to believe that spring is already here at the weekend homestead or is it? The El Nino winter warmth has fooled me into thinking that it's time for maple sap harvesting. The reality is that it's almost a month early. I missed the first wave of warm weather but I won't miss the second and prolonged warm up. In this video I tap maple trees for sap harvesting and boiling into maple syrup.
When the sap starts flowing I'll be ready.
Goodluck with your maple sap season.
Looking like it's starting to move today finally
I was saying out loud… oh I would love to taste that!!!
“Tastes like plastic! 😂 maybe not….
We hope you have a great weekend! 🌲
LOL! I tried it on a different tree and it was sweet with just a hint of maple. Must have been a old bag on the first one.
You are the best ! God Bless!
Thanks Bud!
Weather has been so wonky… hope things are a flowin’! 👍🏼
Yeah it's been weird. I hope they didn't run too much on that first warm up.
Fun to watch the learn as you survivor. Thanks for the videos
you are very welcome! Thank you for hanging out with us.
My favorite RUclips'r
Thanks!
Sweet..... literally.
True!
Flat pan on the new evaporator will be way faster than the other one. Pick up a pan online fairly cheap. Good luck.
I found one that should work. Thanks
Love it! I can't wait to see how they turn out, I want to learn how to to this on My homestead too! Great to see the progress Terry, see you next time. God bless!
Today is FINALLY looking like its going to start running. geez. I've been waiting 2 weeks.
@@TRERUNSWILD that's so exciting! Best of luck to you.
@TRERUNSWILD could you add the link to your taps and bag system you use please, I've looked back at previous videos but couldn't find what I'm looking for really. Thank you in advance Sir.
www.rothsugarbush.com/product/sap-bag-holder/
here is the parent company. I got mine at the local farm store.
Its still early, lots of warm days and cold nights to go .
Remember when you hear the peepers its time to pull the taps !
Oh! That's a great tip! Things like that I can remember. Like look for morels when the lilacs bloom.
Good luck on the sap.
Thanks.
Ya yummy ❤ looking forward to the sweet stuff.🤠🤐😍😁
Me too!! Back to cold and snow so nothing is running STILL! This coming week.... I hope.
River the bestes boy
HE IS!!!!!
That went fast, I feel like you just did this! I hope you have better success this year! Venison stew looks great, but that container of cheese balls makes me gag, lol! 10 days until spring, we have no snow to melt right now, rare for us Minnesotans. Daylight savings starts at midnight today. Have a great weekend!!
River said he disagrees with the cheeseball comment! Taps are dripping this morning! That 50 degrees yesterday got things started.
like to see you again, enjoying your video thank you for sharing and hope you get great syrup
Looks like today it's finally moving!
Thank for the new video from south ga
I still cant believe you already have potatoes in the ground! I was walking on the lake still yesterday
@TRERUNSWILD we just planted 50 purple onions over weekend got peas and carrots this weekend. If rain don't mess us up. We, my wife and me are relatively new to this , it always been around us but really getting into it the last few years. I didn't want come across at an expert ( far far from it)
We are in the same boat. I don't know what I'm doing either but I haven't let that stop me yet!
you should make your fav birch sap lol !!
i'm going to try! Hopefully get in early while the flavor is milder
Awesome
Thanks!
❤
Good morning lee!
Hope your season goes well, ours is about done here in northern Michigan
Just starting today. Still slow but most are trickling. Except the super shaded ones.
It’s definitely my favorite time of year. Enjoy!
Hello friend. Spring is getting closer and closer. On Monday, March 4th, I had surgery on my left eye and now for 3 months I will be rehabilitated with a lot of different do's and don'ts. It is very unpleasant that for 2 weeks I have to put three medications in this eye 15 times a day. I admire and envy you for your skills. A little question. So much work with this maple sugar, and it is not more profitable to buy a regular one in the store. How do they differ from each other? And where is the beautiful dog that I don't see now? Much health to you. Oh, there's a doggy.
Hi Januz! I wish you a speedy recovery! If you can get quantity it is worth it to do it yourself. Lots of people will sell it or give it as gifts to friends. Once the initial expense is done. The equipment will last a very long time. Then the only cost is your time. But mostly it is satisfying to be more reliant on yourself instead of a store. And it is a fun project to look forward to in the spring.
The town I live in We have a lot of Silver maples I live in Michigan lower As you know we have a lot of Had an idea Tap and all the maple Try to make maple syrup And donate to the shelter Try to use the city's natural resources You could save a lot of money
Thats a good thought. I wonder if people would mess with the bags?
I am nexc to a national forest. You can get a permit for like .50 a tree. That would be another way to get access if one didn't have their own trees.
Next week it will be in the 60’s that will get the trees flowing.
BRING ON THE 60's!!!!!!!!! I'll take some sun and warmth!
👏🏼
Good morning!
🙂👍
Good morning!
🖐😎👍
Hi Gerry!
First!
Nice video. Would love to try that one day. However the family doesn’t like maple syrup 🤦♂️ I know - how can you like maple syrup? Thanks for bringing us along
Are they EVEN American!!!!!!! LOL!
@@TRERUNSWILD ya they are. But on other hand vary picky eaters 🤷♂️welcome to my world
Here's a suggestion Spice Lemon and black pepper It's real good on Venus
I'll keep that in mind!
Looks like you're making good use of retirement Brother. As always, give RiverDog an ear scratch.
Someone just reminded me it has been a year. Wow! How is that possible.
@@TRERUNSWILD. It will be 5 years for me next month, semi retired. Because of the price of healthcare.
I'm pretty lucky that they automatically took out pension payments and healthcare savings payments all those years. otherwise I'd have to work longer
@@TRERUNSWILD my pension didn't do that. I was fortunate to make contacts over the years. I landed a court gig with my local Sheriff's Office. I work 35 hours a week and offered healthcare.
Thanx 4 the welcome diversion from the weirdness in my life right now Tre!
Nothing like trading one weird for another!
I remember watching you tap maple trees last year! River looked so sweet when you were asking him if he wanted to go for a walk, the tilting of his head, he melts my heart. I love River. I enjoy your videos and your cabin life (even if I am a vegan 🤣) ❤️✌🏻
I;m hoping for better success this year! I'm going to count last year as the learning year. Now if the weather would cooperate.
So eager for it to flow! I think you are ready for the onslaught of sap! No where as much water like last year for you. I personally can't wait for you to get your first jar of many. I hope those syrup makers in Alaska gave you a bunch of prime knowledge to put to task and get a lot of tasty syrup this year. River dog tilts his head perfectly when you talk to him. Love it. Thank you for all of your hard work. Stay safe and healthy. I am not able to go and help with the syrup this year. First time in many years that I miss it. So I am ready to watch you with anticipation.
I think I will try the birch again this year. See if that early run is better. The funny thing is I barely use syrup all year! It's still a fun project
Good luck with your maple syrup harvest Terry. I hope you collect lots.
Thanks Ron
Remember you have to collect a sap every two days if it gets above 38°
Maple syrup is one of the fussiest things you'll ever do and after you collect it it's good for about 7 days.
Good luck I'm rooting for you.
And you definitely don't need to make it so hot You need to boil a nice steady boil but you don't want to scorch it.
Good tips on the temps. The temp can be a bit tricky with wood but I suppose i can add some cool sap
Hi Terry, Glad to see another video posted. Collecting maple syrup looks like fun. Liked the music you had playing while you were hanging the syrup bags. You & River Dog be careful. 🤗
Hi Linney. Thanks for the visit!
Hello Terry and River great video can’t wait to see the maple trees start production
Here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Any day!
Another great video 😊
Good morning!
Looking forward to the syrup. Good luck.
Thanks 👍
I remember you doing this last year! Hope you do well this year! 😊
I'm ready now. And no need to leave to go to work!
Hope you have a bountiful harvest this year.
thank you for that!
Give em hell T ! Bet that new sap stove will work great !
I think so !
It's called a Bindle
Ah! Good call!
Is it weird that I'm watching this video about maple syrup.....While I'm making Maple Syrup?
HA! I got a better stove and pan this year like you suggested!
@TRERUNSWILD you will love it buddy....buy a large flat pan to sit on top if you can. Think they are couple hundred dollars and you will avoid getting that burnt sugar on the sides of the pan like you do with the buffet pans. I think Amazon sells the pans, but might be able to locally source as well. You probably know all that, but I just wanted to say it, lol. Best wishes Tre....hope retirement is treating you well
Just BUY your maple syrup!!!!
That's no fun.
😊terry and River thank you for sharing your story.
I do very much enjoy all your videos.
I can't remember what you said your job that you retired from and River also, can you remind me.🌸
I was a police officer for 32 years.
@@TRERUNSWILD thank you.
Just buy your maple syrup!!!
Why? It's way more fun to do something yourself instead of relying on someone else to do it for you. Besides real maple syrup is expensive.
Seems like a massive waste of time and energy. And it doesn’t taste any different. How much can you really eat??? Not worth it, when you add all the costs of equipment and supplies and the oblesense costs it doesn’t really cost less and you are not saving anything, put that in to account of your fixed income! Now if you sell it as a product and you receive revenue then it’s a different story!
I can see where it would appear that way. That's a fair statement. It's more of an independence thing. Like growing a vegetable garden. Being close to the earth, spending time outdoors, gathering what nature provides.
all it took was, should we go and the river dog was up and running!
funny how much language they learn in their life.I think I read once that smart dogs can learn over a 1,000 words.
Are you taping any birch trees this year or only maple trees, my friend
I think I will try an early run of birch. Unless the maples surprise me and have a great season and I've burned all my wood.
Is this dog yours from home breeding or maybe he was on police duty with you? I'm asking out of curiosity.
He is a pet. My previous dog was a police dog from Czech Republic. I was a handler for almost 10 years
Another good one buddy. Why are you still buying razors? Ha
Something about a beard makes me feel like I'm dirty. Like needing a shower. IDK. I think i just prefer the feeling of clean shaven. Plus my daughter thinks it make sme look old.
@@TRERUNSWILD lol. The dirty part I have never felt but your daughter is right, it makes us look older for sure. The day I hung up my gun belt, i haven’t shaved since. 30 years of every day clean shaven made me want to have a beard in the worst way. Stay safe and keep living your best life.
Did you ever get your sink water pump installed? I can't remember. If so, was there a video showing that install?
Yep. But it's disconnected for the winter. I was just thinking about hooking it back up now that the hard freezing should be done
@@TRERUNSWILD Is there a video when you installed that?
ruclips.net/video/XhIkM_OM3wA/видео.html
i think this is the one
@@TRERUNSWILD thats it, thanks!
RD. LTD. is planning "RD Brand "Doggo Maple 🍁 Syrup". I see huge potential in the "un-tapped market" ha see what I did there? 😅😅😅
Oh brother!!!!! LOL!
Hey Terry! I just got that same saw and the table too🫰- just made 2 loaves of English muffin bread- easy recipe keep up the good work
Nice! I've never tried to make english muffin bread! Sounds wonderful!
I texted it to you! Let me know that you got it
@chuckjones8565 got it!
Thanks, I’m excited to give it a try!
