    I can't believe it's taken me six years to stumble across this documentary. The relationship between the Dolphins and fishermen is amazing, but I love the Lions and Hyenas. I think what amazed me most was seeing just how gentle that buffalo was when in the house, as I'd never have thought buffalo could be so wary in such a manner. It just shows how little we understand the rest of the animal kingdom, and Liz definitely ended the documantary with a perfect summary. Great job!

      My mind was blown with how much self awareness that buffalo had, I’ll be honest I thought they did not have a shred of intelligence to them and were all instinct. The Hyenas were full on too how they let Kevin dominate them like that and their complicated, almost political clan system, fascinating intelligence animals have.

    These bonds are both impressive and terrifying. My best friend has a similar relationship with multiple wild animals who come only to her. The fragility of wild like is not something most people should mess with. It is, however, incredible to observe when it happens on its own. My best friend has a connection to a female skunk who she nursed back to health after one of her legs was shot off. Now, despite being wild, she brings her babies every year to "show off" to my friend.

      Taught.. but yea, I agree.. nature is a beautiful thing ❤

    • @MusicComet
      @MusicComet 4 месяца назад

      I love animals, but in nature most animals either attack or flee. There is no such thing as a friend in the wild, it's either family or foe. The only reason this can happen is because of the conditions the animals were in which is raising them from childhood and essentially taming them, each person in this video knows this. Thinking we can just befriend any animal at any time is a human fantasy and is not normally feasible nor should you teach people about it. At best people should be taught of the dangers of each animal and how to keep safe upon an encounter. You'll do more harm than good by teaching people how cuddly every animal is (also part of the reason why people unintentionally abuse exotic animals like small monkeys, just because they're cute).

    • @TheGremlinsParadise
      @TheGremlinsParadise 4 месяца назад

      @@MusicComet Your statement is not entirely correct. I myself work for animal protection here in The Netherlands, and we have seen enough instances of wild animals that seem to get attached to humans for all kinds of reason. Most of those cases we are all baffled about it ourselves, we either don't understand why or how it came to be, but nature works in strange ways and is not as black and white as your saying right now. Yes in most instances it is family or foe, but you also need to include that this behavior's differs depending what animal we are talking about. Your are more likely to become friends with a wild goose than a wild lion, guess we can agree on that one, but again nature works in strange ways and strange relations are sometimes formed, though we do not always understand why.
      In a lot of instances it is not just family or foes, I came in contact with enough wild animals that where hurt and injured, some even on the brink of death. After intensive care and treatments we had many instances that we where unable to release the animal back into the wild because it became really attached to their care takers. Animals can understand that you saved them from a dire situation what can result in a unexpected bond between this animal and its care taker, thats why I say it ain't that black or white ( fam or foe ) as you are telling. Its entirely possible for a "wild" animal to become ( somewhat ) tame to humans or at least its care taker, it all depends on the type of animal, the situation it was in and how you treat it.
      When I said "this should be taught in schools", I am of cause not talking about that you just walk into a wild life enclosure and start cuddling the freaking lions in there, I guess you understand that as well. Its not that we need to see all animals as cute or cuddly, but what I mean with it is that we teach children that animals also have a detailed and intelligent social behavior and that we need to learn and respect how nature works. Its of cause absurd to teach people that they can just cuddle with any creature, that will of cause harm us as well as the animals. But it is absolutely feasible to teach them that nature does not work as black and white as we are teached right now, and teaching people to learn and respect nature around them would benefit us all, as we're are pretty much neglecting nature in many aspects at current. There is nothing wrong with teaching people some respect, teaching them the inner workings of mother nature and all the wonders it can provide ( deviating from the norm ). So not saying to to cuddle with wild life, but there is also nothing wrong with showing that not all animals are inherently dangerous if we respect there norms, behavior's and personal needs. The hippo in this video is a great example. This hippo is taken care of when it was young, we both can see the human interactions with the hippo and that the hippo ( in contrast to wild full grown hippos ) is not directly dangerous. But I bet if you would jump into the water right next to him, uuuuuh the situation might change even if you handle it already for years with no aggression at all. If you take care of the animal after the imprinting, yes not all ( most ) will not become friendly to humans, but that does not mean there is no possibilities for it to happen at all. Again with this hippo as example, we are teached that this is one of the most dangerous animals on the planet, yet we fail to include instances as this, nor do we teach enough that these animals are only dangerous is you disrespect the boundaries of this animal. Any animal that feel threatened will do either 1 of 3 things, they will flee, they will attack or they will become submissive. If you understand what animal your working with and how to respect these boundaries, they become much less dangerous overall.
      Small example, I have ped rats ( fancy rats ) and they are never aggressive.... until I suddenly without warning get my hand into enclosure and close to the nest they have build. Good change they will get a jump scare and latch on to your hand, biting you to safeguard its nest. This is a natural behavior of the rat, but that does not mean the rat itself is aggressive in personality or in nature. So teaching people to respect the animals needs and treating them with the respect they need is not wrong at all. But you might see it in black and white like you said, that does not make you right at all.
      Now you mention abuse of exotic animals, it has the word "abuse" in it what is "always" inheritably wrong. In your example you address monkeys, and yes there are enough people that would take monkeys out of the wild and bring them back home and treat it as a ped. We have had some of those monkeys confiscated due to that and they end up in the asylum. Now it creates a problem, a monkey is a social animal that lives in groups. After the initial capture and housing of this animal, you are unable to bring the animal back to its original environment as you do not know what group of monkeys this specific one came from, and you can not just dump the monkey into any other social group. So they end up in either a wild life center, or when and if a bond is formed with its care taker, it could just be that they are housed with the care taker ( if ), the care taker has a adequate enclosure or house to stay in at. Often they are stay with the care taker if the monkey gets aggressive to the other animals within the wild life center, and | or gets bullied and picked on by the others within the enclosure. So also for this instance it would be good to educate people better about the needs of these animals and the damage we do to them once they do get captured. We are not really teaching any of that at all in schools at this right moment, resulting in people thinking they can just grab them out of the wild and house them as peds.
      So yes I do agree with you we need to teach people the dangers of wild life, but we also need to stop teaching this in simple black and white as nature simply does not operate in black and white. There is not just 2 distinct ways but many different ways nature operates, ain't nothing wrong with teaching people that, as is nothing wrong with showing these instances ( like this video ) in schools also, as it teaches them that any wild animal in nature can be handled in some ways, if and only if the boundaries and the animals needs are respected.

      @@TheGremlinsParadise Alright, I agree. The original comment just sounds like something that would come out of someone with no education (no offense, also just how I saw it). Teaching people about animals and their behaviors would be very much appreciated, especially since so many refuse to do the research about their own pet that they're getting. My worry was just that painting nature as "beatiful" is gonna give a lot of people the idea that all animals are friends and can absolutely be befriended with no consequence, which like you said, depends on the animal and its situation. I already just see so many people getting hurt or hurting animals because of this "friend" mindset.

About 5 years later I was working in the barn and Bigs brought me a pup because the mother had died from a hunter and he knew I would take care of the pup. Fast forward ten years and the pup is grown and living in the house like a normal dog, I named him Bandit because he stole my heart.

      Sis Coyotes are intelligent PREDATORS that are known to attack pets like Puppies and Kittens, if the puppy was small enough for it to bring it to you, it would have eaten it. Let alone the fact that you claim the coyote 1) knew the mother died to hUnTeRs, and 2) had a human thought that you would take care of that puppy- sis REALLY?

    When i was younger i lived on a farm near a huge patch of woods and one day i was getting off the school bus when i saw a coyote laying under a big tree we had on our front lawn and me being young and stupid i walked up thinking it was hurt, and it was! My dad used to put out traps to ward off wild animals in our yard and it had its back paw stuck in it, when i approached it i heard it whimpering so i instinctively stroked its side very gently and looked at its paw, after sitting their for a bit i took off the trap very carefully
    ( my dad taught us how to disarm them incase one of us or the dogs got caught)
    After i disarmed it the coyote got up and limped into the woods to nurse its leg back to health , after that it watched me get on and off the bus everyday and
    Once in a while it would allow me to stroke its side and muzzle, i named him Tukata and he would come to me/ bark/ howl everytime i called his name and i used to lay with him behind the barn. Sometimes we would just lay there and sometimes i would bring books and read to him, sing to him, and cuddle him until sunset then i would go inside and later at 10 or whatever he would howl for me. And in the summer on full moons we would howl together, I loved his howl so so much and i will never forget my little Tukata💜

      No, Truck Taxi is correct. Wild Hippos are actually quite a bit more dangerous than lions when it comes to human fatalities. Approximately 500 humans are killed each year by hippos, whereas around 100 people are killed yearly by lions.

    • @elhior23
      @elhior23 6 лет назад +10

      @Tik-Tok
      Hopefully he was not talking about how many people are killed a year being the metric of dangerous animals since it is actually stated in the video. I assume he was referring to the fact that lions are better suited to killing people but there are just far far fewer lions then there are hippos and even more so far far fewer lions near human populations. Granted hippos are dangerous but deer in North America kill 120 people are year in the US (sure mostly by people hitting them with their cars but still they are the most dangerous animal by far in the US) I still think a lion is more designed to kill then a hippo.
      That all being said a charging hippo is still going to be much much faster then me and getting munched by those teeth sounds terrifying.
      edit: Sad fact is that even in the bush of Africa or the wilds of Alaska you are probably more likely to die of being killed by a human then an animal. We humans are still the most dangerous animal.

    • @WarperBlade
      @WarperBlade 5 лет назад +4

      Corbae L it's not just about the number of fatalities. It's also because of their attitude. Lions will attack if you impeach on their Territory and happen to be cloee enough (they are lazy creatures). Hippos, on the other hand, and known to attack for little to no discernable reason.
      P.s. lions may be fewer but hippos are harder to find and approach.

We can throw things, and actually hit them. Elephants have shit accuracy, so do monkeys, they can't hit the broad side of a barn without some luck.

    I had a black house spider make a web in my window while it was broken, but a few days later it was fixed so no more moths could come in.
    I felt sorry for her, she was starving now that there wernt any moths - so i started feeding her beetles and slaters and stuff every few days.
    After a month or so she would run out of the dark hole of her nest when i came home after school. Id tap her on the head to let her know i had something (id tap the window if i didnt and shed go back inside)
    Shed hold her front four legs in the air to accept the beeyle or whatever straight from my fingers, drag it in - then come out with a gift: one body part of her last meal.
    Never the head though - she decorated the top of her web with those. Line them up and have them all facing the same way, i think to attract males?
    One day I gave her a smaller earwig and it pinched her leg really hard, until a drop of liquid came out.
    She dropped it and started nibbling her leg, then ran back inside to nurse it. From then on whenever i tried giving her an earwig, even if they were the only bugs around i could catch, she wouldnt take them - she was scared. Shed rather go hungry.
    She lived for 3.5 years- her whole lifespan - dying in her nest waiting for me to come home from school.
    I know its not an especially wild or crazy pet to have, but we were friends. I dont think bugs get rhe recognition they deserve as tiny little fearful animals.

I know she probably doesn’t know what’s going on but she seems sooo happy when snuggling with me and looking at these big animals. (I hook RUclips up to the tv so she can see and hear better) I’ve watched this video probably 50 times with her, whenever she sees the big animals she wiggles her tail and starts sneezing like crazy. She hops in my lap and we just sit and watch. Thank you for these memories that I’ve been able to make with her! Love the video and keep up the good work!!

      Kevin has also said that one of the misconceptions that people have is that they’re smelly, nasty creatures, and while they have strict hierarchy’s and are opportunists by nature, that they can be loving and affectionate. While Hyenas may see him as one of them, they wouldn’t be able to gauge pain for a human compared to pain for a hyena. What hurts him wouldn’t hurt them because of their thick hide. They’re magnificent creatures and Kevin doesn’t a magnificent job with his Hyenas, lions, black leopards etc
