Another great example of how little bits of fabric can be transformed into a beautiful quilt. Kate at The Last Homely House cuts the same way you do and I dare anybody to tell her she's doing it wrong! There is no right or wrong way as long as you know how to cut safely.
I give my sister all of my scraps but after seeing how you turned them into such beautiful quilts, I'm going to have to rethink things. These three quilts are beautiful!! Thank you so much for sharing!!❤❤
The blocks are gorgeous but my goodness they are HUGE!! Luckily one can always make the central square & strips smaller/narrower if desired. I love how the single-fabric sections tie everything together, no matter how scrappy the multi-fabric pieces are. EDIT - prepping the scrappy strips is perfect for those "I want to sew, but I don't know *what* I want to sew" days.
Another great video, thank you for showing all your steps and then showing your designs in one block, four blocks, and then a full quilt, and in several background colors. I have made scrap strips for a while sometimes they are used in blocks, sometimes they are stored; because I don't know or see what to do with them yet, waiting for inspiration. Thank you for sharing your work with all of us, it gives me at least new inspiration!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I love it. I am a bit of a scrap-a-holic. This is a beautiful way for me to attempt to plow through my scrap stash! And, I love the BUG blocks!
Great vibrant music. Makes one feel peppy and exotic. Some quilters don’t understand other ways of cutting. If they had my torn rt shoulder and rt hip, it would be whatever works honey! And then a couple of “Bless her heart”! Keep up the great work.
Just the inspiration i needed..i havent been quilting for year yet. I have made some quilts for family members, well the story goes that my 90 yr old father said when i first started that i would not need to make him a quilt..ya know "to old for one, have enough blankets". Well just before Christmas i was showing off the quilt i had done for one of my sisters, guess what my (now 91 yr old) father said.."I could use a quilt, my leather chair gets cold in the winter time when i take my naps"..😂..so this would be perfect, using some of my scraps and some dark color for the background...i can work on his quilt while finishing up on the ones i am working on, thank you..thank you for your channel. Oh and just a word on the cutting method..as a beginner quilter..i watched tons of cutting material video's..i know to do what is safe for me as an inexperienced quilter. I came for the ideas and i was blessed..
Hi! I use a 3 lb weight placed on top of my ruler, then I proceed to cut. It gives me better leverage and helps keep my (cut) lines straight. Beautiful quilt!! Thank you for sharing!🎉
Okay. I really love this! What a great use of scraps, and what I really like is that it’s such a simple design. HST’s are not my friend, so this I can do this! 😂Thank you for sharing.
For those who who point out that this method of cutting is unsafe, I would say this: if you are scoring tile, cutting mats or cutting carpet, this method is exactly how cut for precision. Having said that, I think you have better leverage over your tool when cutting from your shoulder out than from cutting toward you. It's a matter of preference/comfort not safety.
Thank you very much! I'm already tired of answering everyone who is concerned about my safety. Now I put subtitles on each video so that there are fewer comments about this.❤️❤️❤️
@@debbiebarnette9715 If you make the colored strips 1-1/ 2 inches wide, then the size of the finished block will be 17-1/2 inches. And if you cut colored strips 2 inches wide, then the size of the finished block will turn out to be 19 inches. But you can also cut strips of background fabric to any width. Not necessarily like mine. But how much background fabric you need to buy depends on the size of the future quilt.
@@cathyphegley7848 of, but it's not really a good example to set if any one is new to the art of sewing and cutting. But, as you say, whatever floats your boat 🙂
Just my two cents here. And it never happens to you until it does. I’ve been sewing for 35 years. Last year, the week before Thanksgiving, through no fault of my own (!), using my rotary cutter upwards towards the top of the fabric, the cutter went rogue-veered to the left towards the end, and I sliced off my finger from the right side of the finger by the top joint across my nail and out the middle of the top of the nail. I felt a burn and went to the sink. It hadn’t started bleeding yet but I realized the top of my finger was thinner. Got the piece and hurried to the ER. Doc sewed it on. Fortunately it missed the cuticle bed. It wound up reattaching from the base of the nail down, but the top didn’t make it. Luckily the nail grows out regular so it doesn’t show. Point being, my SIL bought a handle that attaches to the big ruler I use when doing rotary work. Think about buying one - I will never use it again without it.
Thank you for this wonderful way to use those little scraps. I love this quilt idea. Will make a great table topper. very clever. Merry Christmas and looking forward to more inspirational quilts. :)

Yes you are right! If desired, you can always change the size of the central square and the width of the stripes. It is not difficult.❤
Beautiful "make do with what you have" quilt.
I just changed my mind about getting rid of my fabric scraps! These are beautiful! Thanks so much!

Love how the neutral anchors; would consider making light and dark and alternating blocks.
There can be a lot of options. I just showed the principle. And everyone can bring something of their own to it.❤

Really? Someone came down on you because of how you cut?😢 I cut that way on long cuts because I have better control. I love your Melodies. 🎶💐💖
To be fair to the person that made the comment about cutting towards you, if you slip you are at risk of slashing your wrist.
I have to admit it freaked me out a bit at first but hey whatever works for the individual right?🦋
