Hey thanks i want to know does parachment paper does not burn or melt if placed on ring light and what can be used to diffuse a ring light. Any name of item i can buy online. 😊
I love soft boxes! My husband uses them for his photography stuff and I steal them sometimes - the lighting looks so nice. I like the idea of the big ring light though (I have a small one), and like that it's dimmable. Great info, thanks for this!
No wonder your lighting/videos are always so great if your husband has photography skills.. 😀 There are pros and cons to every option!!! Just curious, what size ring light do you have?
@@BrittanyFlammer awwe thanks! I just have the selfie ring light so far - I actually bought it after watching your video on what to bring for teaching when traveling :)
They are very similar. The difference is umbrella lights spread light everywhere whereas with the soft box you can direct the light to the direction you want. I hope that helps!
Depends on what you're filming. If you don't wear glasses, the ring light is great. If you wear glasses or want a little bit softer light, then the softbox is better.
The principle is to only choose the right and not the expensive. This principle applies only to popular demand. Now the common parameters of the latest lamps in 2022: 1. (1) There are 10 levels of brightness, and the color temperature is 2900K-6700K. If you can't reach it, you can pass it directly, because they are out of date; (2) The computer clip used by 6-8inch has the disadvantage of damaging the computer screen. 10-12inch use desktop stand, limited lighting range and usage scenarios. 14-16 inches, these two sizes are relatively small, neither big nor small, and the scope of application is limited. 18-20 inches, more recommended, the brightness and usage scenarios can meet most needs, 21-22 inches, the brightness is better, but due to the large head of the lamp, the bracket is unstable and easy to tilt. (3) Most of the brackets on the market are of the same specification, and the selling points of each are concentrated on the ring light. 2. 1%-100% LED display, I suggest that non-professional photographers do not need to choose, can you see with your eyes where the difference in brightness between 10% and 15% is? When we generally use it, we use our eyes to see if it meets our lighting effects. It is just like the general rotation and buttons to adjust up and down. 2. There are two types of power supplies, one is USB and the other is Power Adapter with Plug. If you have high requirements on the brightness of the light, choose the Power Adapter with Plug, because it includes all the brightness of USB and higher. 3. The number of lamps directly affects the effect of lighting. The more lamp beads of the same specification, the more evenly distributed the light. Color Rendering Index CRI>90, the higher the CRI, the better, the closer to natural light, the more expensive the price. 4. The more lamp beads of the same specification, the more uniform the light will be. If you can't remember so many parameters, it doesn't matter. Look at the title. The parameters displayed in the title represent the seller's advantage. If the advantages of the title cannot reach the above parameters or the description indicates that this parameter is lower than the basic parameters on the market, Sellers want to highlight their advantages and make you want to buy. Different usage needs, you can choose the one that suits you according to your own needs. mtw.so/6aV1zK
Hmmm...I'm mostly filming videos, not taking photos, so I don't have a lot of experience, but I would think the softbox would probably be better lighting for photos since it's not as harsh. And softboxes are actually intended for photography.
Im struggling with background ideas and would like to know how you have done it in this video. Is it a fabric with holes in it or made of cardboard? Love the way you compare the lights btw ;)
Thanks! My background was wrapping paper. It was thicker paper (similar to brown mailing paper). I have also used fabric, but found that harder - there were usually wrinkles.
Nice short video with appropriate examples, thumbs up!! 1) Is there any size/dimensions for a soft box which we should consider for a good lighting. (Looks links are outdated, can't take reference for size) 2) Actually I need a light for online meeting + wanna use it for casual product photography (including small stuffs). I could understand soft box is not harsh on face. But looks like Ring light better shoots me according to my usage. Not sure though suggest me please. Is there is any way we can make Ring light a bit soft using a Reflector or Diffuser? 😀
Thanks for your comment! Sorry the links were outdated. Thanks for letting me know. I've updated them now. 1. The size I showed was 16"x16". There is not one perfect size for softbox lighting. The general rule is...the bigger the subject you're filming/photographing the bigger the softbox you want. The 16x 16 works fine for me and I'm filming mostly headshots. 2. If you're using your phone for your online meetings the ring light is great because there's a stand for you to mount your phone. If you are using your computer it doesn't really matter. Do you wear glasses? If you don't wear glasses, then the ring light sounds like it might be the best option for you. If you wear glasses, the softbox is better. You can try diffusing the ring light by putting parchment paper on top. I hope that helps...thanks for letting me know about the links.
@@BrittanyFlammer Thanks for covering various scenario. I wanted to get one for Office meeting on laptop + Photography. And now thinking to get one Led light , which I believe will be helpful for my macro photography too being portable🙂. Have you reviewed any led light like from Simplex, Godox, Digitek etc. If yes then please suggest me one (with higher brightness + portability).
Hmmm...good question. I don't know a lot about gaming....but If you are screen recording, the lighting shouldn't matter. If you'll actually be filming yourself in videos then it's just personal preference.
Ahah! It depends. I like them both. But I am going to be getting rid of one....I’ll tell you which one when I do a live video coming up a!! I was supposed to leave a cliffhanger with info at the end...but I wasn’t sure on the date....so, I’ll have a live coming soon to share it with you!!! Stay tuned!!!!
If you face the ring light the opposite direction and then face it against an object with no glare it will give off about the same light with less or no glare. Just a tip
Hello again Brittany, it’s been three months ago since I first set out for a light-and about which light to get I ended up getting the RING light 🙃 but now I’m trying to find a diffuser 🤓I’ve seen a few online in the shape of a circle but anyway I have an 18 inch Vivitar ring light …I like all the dimming features it does move back-and-forth but I still wanna know what a box light would be like. 4 right now due to budget I’ll just stick with my ring light and fix it up with different DIY diffusers 😝for example bed sheet material, paper, shower curtain or window curtain🪟Where there’s a will there is a way✨thank you again for all your tips I’ll be checking back to see more tips you have a great day!
The ring light cover diffuses the light some and the ring light is great for shooting product reviews, but isn't as soft as a softbox. I just compared the two to try to show the difference.
Really, either one could work, but the ring light is probably the best option. The lighting is adjustable and you can mount your phone inside the light.
@@EasyLawOcean I don't think there's 1 that's better than the other - it just depends on what exactly you're filming. That being said...for my mostly talking head videos I use my softbox more.
It's a great comparison, but I would take out the self-introduction and the request to subscribe because you haven't delivered any info and they'll click off. But still good vid 🙂
Thanks! I wish I could edit it and take that out....since my channel is all about budgeting I don't want people interested in video lighting to subscribe....but I can't edit the video at this point. But I hope it was helpful.
It definitely depends on what types of videos you're filming... For my videos (mostly talking head type videos) I think I'd choose the softbox. The lighting is softer and it works better for if I happen to wear my glasses. However, if I were filming hair/makeup tutorials I think I would choose the ring light. I hope that helps!

That was a wonderful video presentation. Thank you so much.😊
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful.
Thank you for this great video! Lighting is always such a struggle for me!! I am really considering purchasing a soft box.

Which is better for food photography?
Oh…that’s a good question. Either one would work, but the ring light is easier to move around/adjust to different angles.

Any parchment paper should work.
So which is better I can’t tell
