Fun fact: pineapple does in fact have enzymes, and they are capable of dissolving human flesh very very slowly. When you eat pineapple it also eats you :D

This isn't accurate. Powdered sugar is just regular sugar, just powdered. You can make your own powdered sugar out of regular sugar at home if you have a good blender. The main difference with powdered sugar is that it's more fine, and you can pack more powdered sugar in the same space that you could pack table sugar into. More sugar = more sweet. This is the main reason they tell you not to pack certain dry ingredients because you can add way more of that ingredient into a container when you pack it vs when you don't, and if will throw off your ratios.

The enzyme in pineapple they might have been referring to is called Bromelain. It breaks down protein. Which is why it makes your tongue burn after eating pineapple. Pineapple literally digests the skin on the inside of your mouth.

we call this nastar in indonesia, acronym of anaNAS (pineapple) TARt. people said that in the past Dutch used Nanas (which was available) as substitution of blueberry and strawberry jam to make tart and called them ananas tart. a perfect combination of european recipe and asian taste/ingredients 😁

Growing up I was an only child and my over the road neighbour was too, born in the same month. We became best friends and most our family functions were shared.
Her family is from China and my family were Irish convicts brought to Australia a couple hundred years ago.
At my family parties I was always yelled at for eating food. I’m naturally chubby and my family would always limit my food. My Nan used to hit me if I tried to have an extra biscuit.
But when I was at my friends place all her extended family was so excited when I ate any of their food. They would always pinch my cheeks and were so impressed that I liked the century egg and chickens foot. My friend always refused to eat them 😂 it was really cool to be part of a culture which valued food instead of constantly putting kids on diets and controlling them!

I had these at home but instead of it being that shape, the dough incases the entire pineapple jam and in my country its called “nastar”.
