Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Leaking Fuel - Broken Petcock on Motorcycle

- Every Moto-mom's dream: a solo ride to Target and Best Buy. I rode the 2002 Custom Harley-Davidson Fat Boy to run some errands, to find out that the bike is leaking fuel from a broken petcock. Cut my wandering the glorious aisle of Target short, to take it nice and easy back into the garage. Thanks for tuning in and make sure to subscribe for more moto-related content!

Hey Whit, is there anyway to get a funnel with a hose to an empty jug under the petcock to collect up the leaking fuel? Maybe empty out the fuel tank?
It's got a FULL tank of gas, but I'll look into this.
whit meza , I guess you’ll have to ride some out of the sporty to make room for it...😉
Paul Beardsley good thinking! 😂
I just fixed my petcock with the same problem, those vacuum petcocks fail all the time
Whit, it looks like there is teflon tape on the threads the petcock screws onto. There is a chance the petcock is just a little loose and needs a slight nudge with a wrench to seal it up. In general, the petcocks are usually not very tight for fear of shearing off the threaded nipple from the tank. Snug it up, dry it off, wrap it with tissue and check it once in a while.
Thank you Carter! I'll take a closer look soon.
Replacing the petcock isn’t hard. Only thing to watch out for is making sure it screws on easy you don’t want to strip the threads on the tank.
Travis Dunn got it!
In the end, glad you caught the leak. You stated in your vid, HD couldn't get the part until the beginning of August. Did you get it fixed? What did you do to fix it? When I'm not familiar with a certain part of my bike (hey, I'm no mechanic either) I go to Harley Owners Group online and pull up the parts manual for my bike. I see if I can identify the part and part number. At least a start.
BTW, @EasyRider is right, those are some serious apes!!! Look great!! Whit, how tall is your husband? Those mirrors look like they're mounted for a very tall person. lol.
Toby Northen he is two inches shorter than me, but loves the 20 inch risers. 😱
@@whitmeza WHAT?!?!?!?!?! Mind blown!!!! LMAO!!!!
I have always wanted a Fat Boy.....motorcycle...lol. I ended up with a Sportster....for now. I love your laugh!
LifeIsGood for now is the perfect way to put it! ;) thank you!
My name is Jimmy. That's the first time I've heard Jimmy rigged. Gonna use that. lol
ha ha! really? maybe it's a midwestern saying?
I would be careful too! And happy that you made it home safe cause that was a bad leak.
Robin The Lady Biker thank you. It’s still sitting in the garage. I haven’t done anything to it yet...
I hope you were able to get parts from Harley. I have an '02 Wide Glide, and Harley no longer sells most of the parts for it. My petcock also started leaking, and I had to go with an aftermarket one. The first one leaked from brand new. So I bought another more expensive one, and so far it has been ok. It is a non vacuum type, so I had to plug up the vacuum line.
oh man, we actually just sold this bike recently but yes it was adjusted and did not leak anymore!
Easy fix drain fuel and replace the petcock im pretty sure theirs an RUclips video on how to do it . Then you to can be a Certified RUclips mechanic 😀👍
The Blue Bike & Doyle certified mechanic indeed. 😂
Best type of mechanic is a RUclips one. Haha
Whit have a go in changing it out / repairing it you will enjoy it..👍🏻🇦🇺 And don’t forget to film it for us..lol
RobDad Dog I will do my best to attempt it! 😂
whit meza I’m sure you will be fine. Or just stop filming get it done by the tech then hit record again.. lol Fixed..😂😂
Good video …I always enjoy watching your content you put it together well….stay safe and keep well and I will catch you on the next one.
Roland Keith thank you.
Petcocks require maintenance eventually. They usually can be rebuilt and it's not expensive.
James L 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
How do you like the apes on the Fat Boy? Best Buy to me is over priced. I prefer to get online. Hope you get the gas leak fixed. It's pretty easy to change a petcock, just be sure to have something to catch the gas in when you pull the line off to drain the tank.. Ride safe.
Easy Rider they are 20 inch risers. My husband absolutely loves them. I’m okay with them but couldn’t do any more then a half hour ride with them. Thank you. 🤞🏼🤞🏼 hope you are doing alright too after your road king spill.
@@whitmeza Yes I am better.👍😎
It’s always concerning to smell fuel! His bike is just crying because it misses him! 😜
ha ha and it's still crying yet...it's been how many months now. oops.
666 subs! LoL
I KNOW!!! That needs to adjust asap. ha ha
Yeah i seen that too 👍👍
Thank you!!! 😂😂
@@whitmeza I subbed just to change it.

Thanks for watching!
Just get a wrench and see if it loose first.
vanislandsteve BC that’s the plan. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Love seeing you riding with those mega Apes! My fiancé has 16” on his bike and that’s plenty. My T. rex arms could not reach 20” haha 🦖 Hopefully you get that leaky poo figured out!
Biker Babe Beth yeah they are massive! 😂
Stuff happens...
Kenneth Anderson it would be a pretty dull life if it didn’t ;)
@@whitmeza I am relieved you are ok. Things break, things wear out. I thank God for Mechanics who know how to fix my Motorcycles. God knows most of wrenching is above my pay grade.
wtf is going on here w these 'new' Harleys??? maybe this is WHY i see,so many are up for sale/traded-in...this is another shame, this woman spent top-dollar on a "motorcycle" all to be disappointed running some errands;and i wonder if this is why alot of Harley dealership-sales are in the shitter, and someone like myself kept holding OFF.funny, you rarely,if any, here of the Japanese bikes being in the infancy phase having issues
This is a custom built fat boy. 2002. Hardly new.
total waste of time
Well thank you for your time watching.
