It's blackgaze!! Genre inbetween shoegaze and black metal, I really love Alcest, probably one of my favorite bands ever!!

Alcest are a great band, happy to see this reaction.
As for their style, they're what one would call "Post-Black Metal" as well as "Blackgaze", imo this song leans more into the Post BM sound than blackgaze.
Post Black Metal is an evolved, quirky form of Black metal. Essentially take the ideas of post-rock,/metal and apply them to black metal.
Blackgaze is a fusion genre where one fuses black metal snd shoegaze.
The poster boys for that style would be the US band Deafheaven but so far as i understand Alcest pioneered it.
Alcest used to be a traditional black metal band with ties to the controversial far-right band Peste Noire. The founder, Neige left PN and began working on this peculiar approach to black metal that we know and love today. So it was initially a one man band but officially it's a two man act since drummer Winterhalter joined.

OMG you are - hands down - the best!
I nearly choked on my meal when I saw this video 🙌🏼😁
So excited to watch it now!
Also thank you so much for reacting to Avatar.
(BTW I'm a 31 year old female music lover).
    Best wishes from Germany!

If I remember correctly Alcest started as black metal band but then they go to post-black metal and finally to genre known as “shoegaze”. Great band, great song and fun reaction. ☺️ I saw on that list also Sólstafir “Lágnætti” - I would love to see your reaction to that song also! 😊 Take care Ken!

YES! YES! Alcest! SOOO GOOOOOD!! Love it!
And yes it´s just like you said, it's that band that I love to put it "playing in background". I just made a playlist of their songs (more than 4hours), put the headphones and concentrate on my work. Awesome!
Please try to react to Kodama from their album with the same name (Kodama).

Love this band. First heard them with 2016's Kodama album, beautiful piece. I would consider them as post-Black Metal or maybe Blackgaze. They do follow more distinct black metal soundscapes on other songs and especially in their earlier work. I'm UK-based and first saw them at Damnation Festival 2019 in Leeds, then at ArcTanGent Festival 2022 near Bristol (two amazing UK festivals for lovers of heavy and weird music) and I am due to see them on their own tour this coming autumn.

I would love to go to those festivals. Also seeing them soon and busy psyching myself up to hear them live for the first time (of many I hope). Might be the first time I ever cry at a gig, lol. Hope you have a great time when you see them! I come from the post punk, punk, goth, shoegaze and indie genres, but I love Neige. First time at a metal gig will be interesting,

I was trying to pass time as I consumed alcohol, and saw that you had watched this video from Alcest. This video is one of my favorite "beautiful and terrifying" videos to watch while intoxicated. I love Alcest while sober, but sometimes being "not sober" just opens up a deeper connection to music like this.

The genre name you are looking for is "Blackgaze" and it's hauntingly beautiful. Strong influences from Shoegaze, Post Rock, and of course Death Metal creating beautiful melancholic landscapes that offer hope and solitude within the blackest pits of despair.

as for the translation, that's not bad.
I would try t o translate and say something like
"night as a hanging web, collapses
And I hear roars in me, I struggle and struggle,
against shadows that pierce me from side to side
    Sea swells are an armor
protecting us when the day strangle
    So many weapons,
    so many frozen blades
to brave the fawns who are roaring inside us"

If you think of the metal screams as vocals with distortion, like on the guitars, it is easier to see the beauty in them.

Ken, I must admit that this was not my cup of tea! However, you did a good job of reacting to it. As far as I can tell, you have only reacted to one Lucy Thomas cover. You really need to react to more of her content. I would suggest a reaction to Evergreen. You should also react to one of the duets that she does with her younger sister Martha.
