  • Here's a fun Dual Sport riding trip we took to the Pike State Forest APV Trails in south-central Ohio. We rode out there from Cincinnati, with me on the Yamaha XT225 and Tony on his DRZ400SM. Once there we met up with a great group on two XT250s, another DRZ, and a KTM 300EXC. They trails were perfect for a variety of skill levels, lots of APV friendly dual track with little challenging sections off to the side. We're looking forward to the next ride!

    This channel is for motorcycle riders, mechanics, and enthusiasts who enjoy the simple joys of motorcycling, from dual sport riding to fixing up old bikes on a budget. My videos also consider the perspective of short motorcycle riders (when it’s helpful and relevant) in choosing and modifying bikes and equipment.
    I’ve been hooked on motorcycles since 1975 when, at the age of 11, my dad brought home a shiny new Suzuki TM75 for me and a Suzuki TC185 for himself so that we could trail ride together in the hills of West Virginia. Since then I’ve worked as a mechanic, owned countless bikes, and even worked in the motorcycle industry for a number of years as a photographer and journalist. Now I do mainly video production and enjoy nothing more than making and sharing these motorcycle videos on RUclips.
    Thanks again for watching. Ride safe!

    Nice! Been out there multiple times! In fact was just out last week with my newly acquired 2023 XT 250. It’s about an 1:30 ride from my house, so I nice little adv ride. Bought some new tires, so will prob head back out this weekend. I need to hit more of Wayne though.

    Nice video!! Did you ride your bike to the park? How far was it? I love the utility of enduro bikes, I think they offer the most fun on two wheels! Can't wait for the next video.

      Yep, we rode the bikes there and back, 70 miles each way (about 90 minutes each way on back roads). I don't have a truck right now so I have to ride it to the trails and back, but I love it! That's the true beauty of the dual sport. Hey, thanks for watching and commenting!

    Fantastic music on this one! I’m thinking about a new XT250. Would love a video on the differences and similarities. The only thing that scares me a little on the 250 being fuel injected, not carbed. I know how to work on the old stuff. Any insight or opinions on that? Thanks.

    Jim! No way! Mitch Wiebell here. I bought a Honda crf250 a couple of months ago and want to get off road. Heard about Pike's apv and I run into you! I'm a noob to motorcycles...is Pike's APV rideable for rookies? Maybe I'll see you out there some time? Hope you're doing great Jim.

    I'm getting started on dirtbiking and I have a kawasaki 200 2 stroke. I'm an educated beginner basically. Is this beginner friendly?, also are these trails dirtbike only. Or is there a mudding trail for quads..

    What grips and hand guards are you using I have an XT and lm looking for some new ones

    • @jimmytmoto
      @jimmytmoto  4 года назад +1

      Hey, Bryce, the handguards are the Acerbis Rally PROFILE (not PRO) guards. They're all plastic, relatively inexpensive at $45, and I like them a lot for the lighter weight bikes. The grips are O'Neal OEN MX diamond grips and I got them because they're open ended and they don't need cut to accept the handguards. It seemed convenient, so I gave them a try. Unfortunately, I"m not a big fan...they're great for control and handling but the next time I'll probably go back to something like a soft compound full waffle grip with a deeper grip (for mud) and a little more comfort. I hope this helps!

    Thanks for the video! Do you think Pike would be a good place for a beginner with a stock Kawasaki Versys x300? I am really trying to get into the more fun side of ADV riding. Pike is just over an hour from me and I would love to check it out but I am afraid of getting in too deep or annoying other riders.

    • @jimmytmoto
      @jimmytmoto  4 года назад +1

      Hey, Mark, I think Pike could be a great place for you to get your Versys x300's wheels in the dirt for the first time. They have a picnic/parking area next to a couple easy beginner/family friendly loops where you can test the bike out and check your comfort level. These trails are pretty wide and smooth and weave up and down through open woods/rolling hills. From there, there's a little skill area and progressively more challenging trails. Since you're only an hour away it would be worth it to go there even if you only do the easiest loops a couple times your first time there. If you're running stock tires then make sure it's dry when you go, just to get a feel. Then the gravel roads down in Shawnee National Forest are a nice place to do some ADV riding, too. Hey, keep me posted if you go!

      @@jimmytmoto Thanks a lot! I will definitely check it out as soon as I can. I use a gopro with the chesty mount as a dashcam so I will bring that with me. I'll let you know how it goes.
