  • The XT225 and I met up with Adventure Roger and his new (to him) TW200 for a Southern Ohio dual sport misadventure ride. He says he bought it for his daughter and, like a good dad, he's just out making sure it works well and is safe for her to ride. That's a good dad, right there.
    Work has been busy this year so this was my first off-road ride of the season. It felt good to knock some rust off and to start getting back into riding shape. The past six months I've had to focus on other things and have been away from the channel here, so I'm wanting to get back in the swing of filming and posting. Look for an update video soon.
    If you’ve enjoyed this video I hope you’ll give it a “like” and will consider hitting that subscribe button! Have a comment or thought? This channel is for motorcycle riders, mechanics, and enthusiasts who enjoy the simple joys of motorcycling, from dual sport riding to fixing up old bikes on a budget. My videos also consider the perspective of short motorcycle riders (when it’s helpful and relevant) in choosing and modifying bikes and equipment.
    I’ve been hooked on motorcycles since 1975 when, at the age of 11, my dad brought home a shiny new Suzuki TM75 for me and a Suzuki TC185 for himself so that we could trail ride together in the hills of West Virginia. Since then I’ve worked as a mechanic, owned countless bikes, and even worked in the motorcycle industry for a number of years as a photographer and journalist. Now I do mainly video production and enjoy nothing more than making and sharing these motorcycle videos on RUclips.
    Thanks again for watching. Ride safe!

    Great to see you back Jimmy! That looked like some greasy mess you guys were slogging through. Seeing that swift current in the river reminded me of a time I went fishing years ago and was wading through a river like that - next thing I knew Iwas on my butt with my waders filling up with icy cold spring water - "refreshing" to say the least. surprising how powerful the water can be. Hope you have some more adventures on the Yamaha Scrambler as well soon. Really enjoyed that series.

      Thanks a bunch, Kelly! Yeah, rapid water is no joke. Roger knew that it dropped off deeper in the middle, too, so it wasn't worth taking a chance. I'd rather live to ride another day! We still found other messes to get ourselves into. :)

    Way to look for the nastiest ride possible! Loved it!, Miss my T tub! But not its rear brake on the road. Leaning toward an XT225 I think! Birthday present for me perhaps! [60]

    I’ve been riding for 50 years, mostly trails. Mostly trials motorcycles. I have a Gas Gas 270 trials and 2 Yamaha 225’s. The 225 I found is the best all round duel sport bike one could own! I ride the Sierra Navada, above Bass Lake, Calif mostly and then for quick rides around the neighborhood once and awhile. It looks like you had a great time on this video ride! I couldn’t tell if you had or not but seems that you both may have had too much air in your tires in the mucky stuff but then you had some road riding to do too so it may have been a lot of pump them air and let air out going on. Anyway, the 225’s are the way to go for sure!

      @jimmytmoto  3 года назад

      Agreed 100% on the XT225 being a great all-round dual sport! All winter I looked at different bike reviews, picked different ones I'd love to own, and then I rode the XT again and it reminded what I like about it so much. I'm set for a while. And you're absolutely right about the tire pressures...I got lazy and kept them pumped up. Gonna try some more aggressive tires later this season, too.

    Considering your high contrast mixed on/off riding, including going through this muck, do you think the Kenda 270s you show in the video are the best tire overall? I'll be buying a bike just like yours soon and plan to use it as you are - minus the mud 🤣. Thanks for the great videos. 👍

    Love your vids and jealous as hell. No long trails in East Sussex, England. Think I will do the front suspension mod on my xt225. Just wondering why you haven't got folding mirrors (cheap on ebay) and surprised that you have not broken yours.

    Yeah, I think my Motoz Mountain Hybrid tires on Tubliss at 5psi are a bit closer to what all that mud was asking for. Still not perfect, real open knobbies are probably the real answer, but at least the Motoz do good on pavement too, still pass for dual sport. However, being able to talk about "the right tires" underscores the big problem with the TW200: no options for tires. The stock ones are pretty good overall, but I think this vid showed their limit quite clearly. I know some people have messed with mounting ATV tires, it is possible but difficult and a gamble whether any given tire model will work, and even then will still probably be no good on road.

    • @jimmytmoto
      @jimmytmoto  3 года назад

      100%. We'll always be searching for the perfect tire for every condition. I would have LOVED to try the Motoz with low pressure on that day, that sounds ideal! I'm definitely going to try more aggressive tires this year but I also love the road riding. As for the TW, I'm amazed the stock tires get traction as good as they do but those meaty footprints make up for a lot. Great to hear from you!

    So I found 2008 TW with 16k miles on it. Or a 2002 Xt with 3,262 miles both for $2200 I got them down. I live in a small city with a little off roading. Just not sure what bike would be best for me.

    Now that honda is selling the cb400x in Japan on the 500x frame. It will certainly come to the U.S. market as a 2022 model.
    How long do you think it will be before we see the long awaited kawasaki versys x 400cc. ???
