As someone who knows little to nothing about drone technical specs, I found this video to be really insightful and helpful for if I ever decide to buy a drone for fun. Thanks for the review!
That's what you get with the Air. Still, I wish the camera was a bit better... but it's hard to beat how compact this drone is. So easy to carry around. - Vjeran P.
Great to hear American English. Expat based in Brighton England. First year van lifing want a drone this year. Went to Cal for 5 years. Great photos of SF. Namaste Drew. You can see how crude my videos are but hey we all have to start somewhere. Does it have follow me function?
I have the Mavic Air, max setup time for me is 2 mins, winds didn’t hit it that hard for how windy the area I shoot with is. WiFi connection has been amazing, not a single lost connection problem even when recording at forests
I would say video quality is more important for me, portability coming second but can't wait to get my hands on it and do a full review ! Great video BTW
great video, i think this video saved me 799 dolars. very detailed video, thank you. i just bought mavic pro platinum, video quality same, and for me radio frequency is important in the city. so i will stick to mavic pro platinum,
While talking frame rates you say, "you can also do slow motion up to 120 frames per second, of course that one's 1080p" ` 1:26 There is nothing of course about that at all. 1080p at 120fps is rarefied territory and demands complete absence of phrases like "of course". :P Love the videos ... rock on :)
I dont own any Dji products yet and highly interested in the Air as my first one. So my question is will it fly with the remote only? Or does it requires to always be paired to a phone?
Mavic Pro and the Mavic Air both connect to the remote via RF (radio frequency). Occusync (Mavic Pro) uses radio frequencies at 1.4mhz, 10mhz, or 20mhz. The Mavic Air (Enhanced WiFi) uses radio frequencies at 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz.
What's that about the wifi connection as opposed to the radio one? I live in a country with awful internet connections so I don't know if the air is right for me. Care to explain? (sorry if it's a noob question).
The WiFi comes from the controller itself and has nothing to do with internet speeds. This makes the controller a mini router, so to speak, between you and the drone. Between the two, enhanced WiFi and radio, there isn't much difference aside from the transmission technology built-in.
I bought one last week, I wish I didn’t. The most distance I manage to get was on a beach flying out to sea was 250 meters before it lost rc signal, image went shocky and blurry with delay after 80 meters allready. Why I don’t know all is up to date, I have to keep using my P4 as my magic air is 1 big disappointment. I hope this gets fixed soon.
Hi. Great video. Just asking for suggestion, I’m planning to buy a drone, but as beginner should I get the pro or the air? I don’t have experience with drone. Thank you
Great video as always personally I think the Mavic air is only meant for adventure people who don’t need a long range or a lot of my time frankly from a personal or aerial photographer snap. I think for $200 you are getting a better drown by going with the Mavic pro or just get the new inspire I’ve got rumor that a announcement will be made end of March for the Mavic number two
Great video! If you want to try the DJI Mavic for real or if you already have it and want to host a demo, you should try Bleeker app to share demos of your favorite products.
Dronography is the science, art and practice of creating durable images or video by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation by means of a drone flying around or above a certain scene.
The main problem with all those drones is the camera image details.Trees, grass and other small particles looks like a sponge or just a brush paint.I have the Phantom 4 and I am trying to sell it because of that.
well hell i very seldom get perfect daylight settings; so it sounds like its not that great unless you have all the time in the world and can fly in that perfect light which hardly ever happens
I want to buy one of the Mavics but I don’t have any hobbies that justifies the price. For those of you who’ve purchased a drone, if you’re not a content creator what activities are you using your drone for? Once the novelty wears off, I tend to place my toys and gadgets on the shelf where they collect dust 😒
Hi, thanks. Well balanced review. Every drone has pro'sand con's, it's a question of balancing out what's best for the application in mind. I hope that the necessary regulatory envirionment can keep up with the rate of autonomous development, there's a lot of good stuff that can come from the evolving drone tecchnolgy. Bob.
Brilliant! At last a 'dude talk free' video! Clear, relevant and informative. Regarding the video - would you mind clarifying something for me please regarding compass calibration. I notice at around 3:28 on the video you calibrated the compass vertically by holding the drone on its side, and I have seen this method in other videos. Indeed that is the display in the DJI app when calibrating. However the manual is specific that this should be done with the nose down, i.e. the body of the drone vertical and not horizontal. Here is the manual reference for a mavic www.manualslib.com/manual/1188948/Dji-Mavic-Pro.html?page=50
Nice but why spend soo much money on all 3 drone??? Are they yours or r u borrowing them or borrowing 2 drones???? Cuz thatseems like a huuuuge waat of money
They are a corporation, either they got it for free for review, they rented it or can afford to purchase them outright. It is not far-fetched when you are a business.
Great little design tweak...which also makes it easy to drop and lose your sticks. I don't have any interest in this drone in the first place. Js that seems like bad design not good.
I am sorry but you can’t say “enough of drone specs”. Each point matters, so you must check out its full specs at its official page - specs.info/mavicAir
As someone who knows little to nothing about drone technical specs, I found this video to be really insightful and helpful for if I ever decide to buy a drone for fun. Thanks for the review!
I like this host. He should do more reviews.
Vjeran coming for my job!
Dieter Bohn he actually sounds a lot like you at times. In the intro especially.
👍🏻Bravo Vjeran, čestitke!😁
hvala ti :)
These are the laws about drones that stopping on getting a drone sites.google.com/site/DroneLicenses
At 1:35 it's 60 and 100 megaBITS per second, not megaBYTES.
olegkikin exactly! this can cause confusion when people are selecting a Micro SD card as 100 Megabits and 100 Megabytes are two very different speeds!
He even calls it “bit rate” correctly right after.
Yes this is a very important distinction!
Wow. They even wrote "MBS" on the screen like that's even a thing. Lost some respect for The Verge today!
I was gonna say the same thing huge difference
Which do you care about more - portability or image quality? - Vjeran P.
The Verge obviously image quality
A combination of both?
Definitely image quality...
That's what you get with the Air. Still, I wish the camera was a bit better... but it's hard to beat how compact this drone is. So easy to carry around. - Vjeran P.
The Verge my platinum and obsidian 😁
I have watched SEVERAL videos about Mavic Air... and I liked your video the best. Cut short to the point no BS. By the way host was great too.
0:56 that was a risky move there fella!
1:36 Megabits*
2:00 the sensor is the same size as the Phantom 4. Its only smaller to the Phantom 4 Pro
love that you guy dig deep in the specs. Like telling that the mavic air uses wifi instead of radio frequency like the mavic pro
I think you are the only true reviewer on RUclips..! Thank you for such honest review.. Appreciate it..
Great writing and exposition on the review! Probably one of the best so far on the verge
Great to hear American English. Expat based in Brighton England. First year van lifing want a drone this year. Went to Cal for 5 years. Great photos of SF. Namaste Drew. You can see how crude my videos are but hey we all have to start somewhere. Does it have follow me function?
The review I was expecting! On point!
3:13 why do your I/X screen looks like that!?
It's the screen protector. Not my favorite :)
Yup. It's the screen protector. - Vjeran P.
The Verge is that a special case which will hold the phone in the controller without covering the screen? If so where can you get it?
The Verge your screen protector sucks 😁
It looks pretty cool to me. Can I know what protector is that?
I have the Mavic Air, max setup time for me is 2 mins, winds didn’t hit it that hard for how windy the area I shoot with is. WiFi connection has been amazing, not a single lost connection problem even when recording at forests
3:01 what camera bag are you using?
Really like this new reviewer. Very helpful and easy on the eyes too. 11/10. 😍
you have very low standards... hes a 3.5/10 in the looks department
Where do you shoot in San Francisco ? What are good areas to shoot legally and dont get in trouble ?
I would say video quality is more important for me, portability coming second but can't wait to get my hands on it and do a full review ! Great video BTW
What bag is that you were carrying your gear in?
great video, i think this video saved me 799 dolars. very detailed video, thank you. i just bought mavic pro platinum, video quality same, and for me radio frequency is important in the city. so i will stick to mavic pro platinum,

grate video....
Good review mate.
Looks like I`ll update from my Phantom 3 STD,I`ll wait for a few more real world reviews though.
Phil G Thank you. I've had the Phantom 3 Advanced. Air is huge upgrade from those models in every aspect. - Vjeran P.
Each of the drone’s legs contains a dual-band antenna that extends the flight range up to 2.5mi OMI Receiver and a lot more features
Where can I buy this bag 02:58 ?
Any chance of doing an indoor flight test? Somewhere where there is plenty of flying space.
About the latency , tried using a otg cable to connect to the bottom of the controller ala spark?
Is that just a wi-fi drone? I did not understand, Mavic Air page says it is radio controlled also?
Excellent!.. Thank you!..
Can I connect the Mavic Air to a DJI goggle Racing edition or the DJI FPV?
I dont own any Dji products yet and highly interested in the Air as my first one. So my question is will it fly with the remote only? Or does it requires to always be paired to a phone?
Mavic Pro and the Mavic Air both connect to the remote via RF (radio frequency). Occusync (Mavic Pro) uses radio frequencies at 1.4mhz, 10mhz, or 20mhz. The Mavic Air (Enhanced WiFi) uses radio frequencies at 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz.
Good review!
Great informative video!
Do these Mavics do way point flying? I can't seem to find any info about that anywhere
Very good video well done, thanks

Between the two, enhanced WiFi and radio, there isn't much difference aside from the transmission technology built-in.
Doesn't Wi-Fi also use Radiowaves? ( IIRC, Microwaves have very short distance. )
I bought one last week, I wish I didn’t.
The most distance I manage to get was on a beach flying out to sea was 250 meters before it lost rc signal, image went shocky and blurry with delay after 80 meters allready.

Anyone else notice his last name is eeeerily similar to... MAVIC?
We should assign all product reviews based on whose name best rhymes - Helen H.
Lauren Goode This is great! You have Food, Dieter will be reviewing Phones, and Paul will only review KILLER Apps? that was a stretch... I'm sorry.
The name looks Serbian to me.
*Don't miss this deal Get the DJI Mavic Air now really cheap in the DJI Store:* click.dji.com/AF61kx5HSuD6hZaUaT0NVg?pm=link&as=0011 Best deal ever!
What is the motor and prop size?
where is this location, 02:04
How come you are allowed to fly drones in SF? Do you have a permit or something?
Nice video! Thanks for tha San Francisco views!
We've made some insanely awesome videos with the Mavic Air! Solid Craft!
Absolute quality video.
Great review, thanks.
It uses wifi for communication but can someone please tell me how range has increased to about 4km on WiFi when the max range of wifi is only 32m
precio???
caracteristicas, para comprar en peru
COOL!!! Thanks for this video ;)
On the mavik air are you able to Manually control the camera settings? (shutter speed, iso, AP)
yes! When you purchase the drone from dji, can you use my affiliate link? It's in the description of my last video. Thank you!
Nice, gave me confidence for a purchase, Thanks
Does this have some kind of portrait mode?
A video on wifi on the Air vs radio on the Mavic would be sweet. :) That's the only factor pulling me back from getting an Air.
Hi. Great video. Just asking for suggestion, I’m planning to buy a drone, but as beginner should I get the pro or the air? I don’t have experience with drone. Thank you
Get the mini 2
1:35 it shoots @ 100 mbs not MB, there is 8 bits in 1 Byte, so 100mbs = 12.5 MBS The Verge should know this!!!!
I enjoyed watching this Video. I fly a P3 in Adelaide
This is the best review I have ever seen.
I can't wait until these devices are truly affordable and the tech is at near peak performance.
What is the price,,,,
Great video as always personally I think the Mavic air is only meant for adventure people who don’t need a long range or a lot of my time frankly from a personal or aerial photographer snap. Amazing Drone! I like dji drones.
The spark and the Mavic Pro has a baby
Dronography is the science, art and practice of creating durable images or video by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation by means of a drone flying around or above a certain scene.
Backpack?
No English closed captioning?
Which is better? Mavic pro or Mavic Air?
I would wait for the Mavic Pro to get updated. Currently I just want to get an upgrade since mine was stolen =(
I guess Mavic Pro 2 is coming soon... I'll wait for that one.
Why don’t you review a Autel Evo?
The main problem with all those drones is the camera image details.Trees, grass and other small particles looks like a sponge or just a brush paint.I have the Phantom 4 and I am trying to sell it because of that.
Mavic Air mini owns the skys for flight time and range :)
you need to consider mavic air is half the size of mavic pro when compare all the specs
is it just me or does his Iphone X screen look trippy af?
I think it's his screen protector. I really should put one on my phone.
Dieter Bohn I just go naked on my pixel 2. I had a LG g4 before without a case or screen protector and I was fine.
well hell i very seldom get perfect daylight settings; so it sounds like its not that great unless you have all the time in the world and can fly in that perfect light which hardly ever happens
Helpful! Thanks
0:55 are you ok dude? 😥
bro it was nice!
So when your using the mavic air can you use the remote as your watching the live footage on your phone ?
👍🏼👍🏼 sir for this review.
I want to buy one of the Mavics but I don’t have any hobbies that justifies the price. Sweet break down..... I'm giving away my DJI Mavic Air
I like the smaller size and IQ boost but prefer the controller that the Mavic Pro has. I'll stick with my Mavic Pro.
Do you need a drone license to fly a drone
If you want a 1in sensor in a compact drone just wait a little while for the next Mavic Pro.

Is this a Review Video for the Mavic Air or a Comparison Video? I came here to learn about the Mavic Air. I don't care 0% about others...
HELLO FROM CAMBODIA
Did you get hassled by the cops in the background?
Great little design tweak...which also makes it easy to drop and lose your sticks. I don't have any interest in this drone in the first place. Js that seems like bad design not good.
Ben Popper from DJI
I am sorry but you can’t say “enough of drone specs”. Each point matters, so you must check out its full specs at its official page - specs.info/mavicAir
the best one!
If you like toys
so its not radio frequency
New Drone...who dis???
