I've had the drone since it came out. I've got nothing to compare it to it's the only drone i've ever owned but it does everything I need it to do. I like the styling and the special fly features.
I really like Mavic Air. I have a lot of quadcopters and I change them all the time, but mavic air will always be with me. mavic air was one of the first compact sized smart quadcopters, it has a lot of flight modes. it's like at one time when the bmw e65 appeared, everyone scolded it, and then it became one of the best-selling models so mavic air will always be in my collection 👍
I've just traded my Mini SE for one of these. I wanted something sturdy that I was less afraid of losing than my main drone. I can't wait to try it out.
@@flywrightdronesIt's a noisy little beast isn't it. The battery life is quite short too, which could be down to old batteries. Still the camera quality is good, it's got obstacle avoidance sensors and feels like it can handle a lot of punishment. For me it is a really good bargain, which I look forward to flying much more in the summer.
I wish the new mavic mini drones still had option for the smaller controller. While the larger rc controller is more comfortable it is indeed large and bulky which kind of defeats the purpose of portability because one of the benefits of these smaller drones is portability but that kind of goes away when you need to take the large bulky controller.
I think i messed up my Gimble by turning on Drone n was moving gimble with the cover still on such a dumb move. Now i cant maneuver my gimble at all n drone is out of warranty. Anyone got any suggestions how or where to fix Mavic Air Gimble.
Have you tried to calibrate it? I’m not sure if DJI still repairs these or not. Sounds like you burned up the internal motors sadly. Hopefully you can get it fixed! 👍
I have the Mavic Air that my wife bought for me as a present at the end of 2018 and it's the only drone I've ever owned so I can't say much as far as what I like better. But it has been reliable and is relatively easy to use. The only thing that I didn't like about it was the connection quality. I was only probably about 500 feet away and the feed was delayed. I lost visual sight of the drone and hit a branch sticking out which sent the drone tumbling down. I'm waiting for a new arm to come in then I'm going to attempt to fix it myself, which looks easy enough.
I have the same Flame Red Air since 2019 and also the Mini 2. The Air is my preference for all the reasons you mentioned. Batteries are the only problem now like you said. I luckily have 8 batteries now, 5 of them bought second hand. This drone is amazing just pick up decent second hand batteries when you can in your local classifieds..
Thanks for the informative video! I just order one of these today off of ebay (first Gen). I'm 55 years old and wondering if you could advise on the best first time drone user app that you would recommend I get for my phone?
I just dusted mine off and I'm charging all the components. I'm sure there'll be all kinds of software updates to do before I can fly it, but I'm ready for this weekend.
Still a capable drone in 2022. Hold its own and its great that DJI still sell the battery (although goes out of stock soon as its in) I still fly mine along with my Mavic 3 as a backup as it still is a 4k drone!
I was sold on getting one when it first came out due to all the features and tech that came in this small package problem is the drone never really worked for me and even ended up dying after sitting for a couple months, had never dropped or crashed it. It seems the IMU overheats and goes bad very easily. The issues I had were (1) Lag at remove (2) Connectivity (3) Life of use (4) Expensive batteries. I would recommend the Mini 2 over the Air unless you are paying sub $300 for the unit.
I have used my mavic air for a long time. I have fcc hack it so the distance is better. Mini 2 would be the airs match but mini 3 pro would be the best. The smaller drones are easier to carry. The mavic air has pano shots and some nice quick shots. I managed to get 4 batteries and in honesty I normally just fly using one or two depending on the location. My biggest problem is the flight time. I normally set it with 35% remaining so it ensures my return flight. I like this drone a lot. And one tip was not to update the database as it starts to restrict your drone flight.
thanks for sharing your review! I was recently gifted a Mavic Air and cannot find the "DJI go 4" app in the Google play store. Is that what app you're using to connect your phone? or are there any other apps I can use instead?
The Mavic air was my first drone, maybe panic or want something fresh with better mobility I sold and got me a mini 1 personally didn’t like the mini because wasn’t that small and the limit on wind speed sold that one got me a Mavic pro that one was good but definitely need his own backpack 🎒 so I sold that one too on eBay and now in 2022 just got me back on Mavic air with 3batt fly more for $213 plus shipping on eBay let see what happens. One thing I was afraid 😱 about the signal but I have a Apple AirTag to go on the hunt if I get lost .
Nice to review a review of the Mavic Air (I also own a Mini2 but I will NEVER sell my Air). I have this drone since February 2018, I have the COMBO version and I use it especially for photogrammetry work. In my opinion it is still a beautiful object for filming, photos and photogrammetry as the SDK has been released by DJI which also allows the use of third-party apps such as LICHI, DRONELINK, DRONEDEPLOY, DRONE HARMONY etc. In your review I saw that you lost the signal but used the 5.8G transmission. With the 2.4g it is more stable especially when used in FCC Mode. Here in Italy you can only use CE Mode but for automatic flights it is not a problem. Greetings
@@jakobwidmaier7246 The mavic Air is a great drone but has limited flight time. The Mini 2 has no obstacle detectors but has an excellent camera, (perhaps even better than the Air) it is light (less than 250gr. ) excellent maneuverability, free SDK and therefore usable also with third-party APPs and the OCUSYNC 2.0 radio system. Advised. Now Mini 2SE has also come out. It is identical to the mini 2 but has a 2k camera (still excellent) and costs less.
Recently picked up a secondhand mavic air for my first drone. I didn't want to spend too much incase I didn't like it and was surprised when I found the mavic air selling for quite cheap. I had wanted one back when they were 1k but couldn't justify that kind of money back then. I'm still learning the basics but really enjoying it. I think if I'd have bought one of the newer versions I would be more hesitant in my flying due to the price tag lol. Great video, it would be nice to have more range but for the secondhand price tag I really can't complain.

But yeah - DJI did a good job with this one!
So it means they are really gonna stop the batteries 😭??. The drone is too strong for the batteries to came to a hult soo soon ,some of us are just buying one
Yep I've got a Mavic Air - It just seems to do everything I want it to do and as an avid watcher of drone channels, can't say I've seen anything too innovative to make me upgrade frankly. I find the biggest issue finding places to use it. Battery life I suppose is its biggest weakness compared to others. Video quality is simply amazing, especially its stability. I've driven it into the odd branch/bush but still never damaged it requiring its spare blades I still have. I love it!
Thanks for your video. I am considering buying a secondhand Mavic Air as my first drone for playing and training. I own a Mavic Air along with the goggles and find myself in agreement with most points made in your video. Unfortunately, as of 2024, sourcing extra batteries has become nearly impossible. This situation is particularly disappointing given that, despite six years having elapsed, I invested over 1.5 K€ in the Fly More Combo and the Goggles. Their usability has significantly diminished due to the batteries nearing the end of their life, and the goggles have limited utility beyond their original purpose.
Mavic Air is dead for 2022 because JI stopped selling batteries forcing people to upgrade to a better drone. I bought 2 extra batteries before they stopped selling them and still have plenty of juice for maybe next 5 years.
I like my Mavic air, but mine is getting pretty beat up. I recently crashed it into a roof, and it got pretty deep scratched and broke one of the rear feet (not the folding ones) that are molded into the motor housing. Unfortunately, I cannot find this part so I am going to have to rig something up before I can fly it. Also, the batteries are down to 15 minutes or less to dead.
Covid put paid to all my video projects. I've flown mine twice in the past year. Still think it's a good piece of kit. I owned a Mini for a while and frankly hated it. The slightest wind would sweep it away. I almost lost it one day, the moderate wind drained the battery to critical and though I could see it, the ground was uneven with long grass. I did manage to land nearby but That was it foe me.

@@flywrightdrones dude right? Reason I got it so cheap is someone sold it to them, then someone bought it and said they tried everything to get it to fly and it wouldn’t fly, so I got it for 50$ followed the Manual step by step and it flies perfectly
@@flywrightdronesMy experience with the MAS props is that they only reduce the noise by about 3db. You are correct regarding the quality. I have found that they tend to "splinter" easily and the tips wear faster making for unstable control. Just not worth the trade off in my opinion.
It is still a great drone and as for the flight distance it could have been a little better. However i never fly more than a kilometre from home ever. Do not see the point, as it can have serious consequences for those inexperienced pilots. Would i buy a Mavic Air these days ? Maybe, but only if it came with 3 batteries. As for buying extra batteries, the cost is mindless. Therefore i would not buy this drone.
I’d go with the Mavic Air honestly, I bought a mini SE and ended up returning it because it had so many signal issues. But you have signal issues with the air as well but with the features the air comes with I’d go with that one honestly.

I was under a 100yr old tree. The drone went up, crashed, went up, crashed. 5 or 6 crashes. Was possessed. Never again wifi connect. Never. Never. Could have killed someone. Only occusync.
It wins mini, mini 2 and finally the mini 3 pro wins the air.
Your poor wireless connection was because of the wrong band. 2.4Ghz gives better distance.
The App automatically chooses the band with the least amount of traffic. I’ve tried both and in this area the range is still trash.
Just got one brand new from a pawn shop for 50$
That is a steal!!!
@@flywrightdrones dude right? Reason I got it so cheap is someone sold it to them, then someone bought it and said they tried everything to get it to fly and it wouldn’t fly, so I got it for 50$ followed the Manual step by step and it flies perfectly
MAS props will fix the noise. So in reality it's just the WiFi that is bad. Thanks for the video.
I totally forgot about those, thank you for watching and commenting 👍
What is MAS?
@@clubme1019 master air screw, it’s a company that makes propellers that are quieter than the stock ones but I’ve heard they were lesser quality.
@@flywrightdronesMy experience with the MAS props is that they only reduce the noise by about 3db. You are correct regarding the quality. I have found that they tend to "splinter" easily and the tips wear faster making for unstable control. Just not worth the trade off in my opinion.
That's crazy bro I can get out 9,10 and 11,000 ft easily with mine on 5.8ghz...🤔
🔥
Flying Mavic air 2024. It's noisy drone but a good one
How!??
What app are you using!!
Haven't been able to fly mine over 2 years now
I can't get batteries
This drone people offer me 800+ tot 1k but I can't sale
It is still a great drone and as for the flight distance it could have been a little better. However i never fly more than a kilometre from home ever. Do not see the point, as it can have serious consequences for those inexperienced pilots. Would i buy a Mavic Air these days ? Maybe, but only if it came with 3 batteries. As for buying extra batteries, the cost is mindless. Therefore i would not buy this drone.
2024 here!!
Mavic Air is trash!!
No app to fly the drone!!!
WASTE OF MONEY!!!
If you could chose between a Mavic air with 3 batteries or the new mini se for the same price, what would you pick
I’d go with the Mavic Air honestly, I bought a mini SE and ended up returning it because it had so many signal issues. But you have signal issues with the air as well but with the features the air comes with I’d go with that one honestly.
