It's crazy to realize that Ness and company technically didn't defeat Giygas themselves; it took literal prayer and divine intervention to do so. That alone is terrifying to think about.
The thing is I wouldn't really call it divine intervention because the god here is the player, Gygas is an all powerful entity but our compassion for the main characters and everyone they've met is what overpowers him. Human compassion is stronger than nihilistic cruelty, I don't find that terrifying, I find it beautiful.
@@fullmetalanarchist6521 It's terrifying when you consider that Giygas wasn't cruel. He was in agony. His own mind tore him apart not only bodily but down to his very soul. Killing him was not to protect the planet. It was a mercy kill to put him out of his misery. And it only worked because it put him together just barely enough he could choose to die rather than continue being whatever the fuck that was.
What I love about giygas’s theme is that it’s not bombastic and chest-pounding like “One-Winged Angel” or uptempo and boisterous like “Megalovania”, it’s subtle eerie. Giygas isn’t trying to prove how tough and powerful he is in this battle. He has already become a near- unstoppable force, a being of pure rage and hatred. He is so powerful that he is literally only defeated by prayer- conventional methods such as direct attack are totally no-sold. This theme is not “I am all powerful” It is a being incapable of rational thought, with no motive at all outside of blind, destructive anger for all of reality, lashing out at you and coming very, very close to obliterating you with a swat of its hand
It's terrifying that he had to use an entire machine just to keep even a rudimentary amount of sapience, and after the machine is turned off he just descends into madness in a visual format.

Most unsettling video game soundtrack I’ve heard. The exotic chords bouncing around aimlessly in the beginning really detach you from reality in a sedating way. Then you’re slowly pushed into being bombarded with erratic noise. As if some alien is trying to create noises we interpret as danger and panic. But it’s really well done. The awkward cadences, pauses, pulses of nonsense frequencies interrupted by short periods of prayer that bring audible symmetry to re-orient your ears, only to be brought back into the chaos is like audible water boarding.
I found this final boss screen to be so weird. the concept of praying was a unique idea. But I would have liked to have seen him complete and in his right mind and than Pokey do something evil.
