The section at 1:59 changes this song so much for the better. The shift in octave and notes turns the dreadful and menacing song before into a hopeful and determined part. And then the section ends with a barely audible scream, and returning to the motif of the earlier parts, like that hope and determination being instantly taken away, reminding you of your place here. Wonderful track!
The determination in this section could possibly be for both the character and Hatred, as both are fighting for control since Hatred is attempting to fully take over the player after Greed, Solitude, and Fear have collapsed, whereas the player is attempting to control the impurities that conflict them on their journey. The aggressive and dreadful motif possibly represent how both also hate eachother, as Hatred causes the player to hate themselves, and that leads to a strong hate for the player's own self-loathing.

I actually began to notice a color theory with all the bosses in this game: The Cruel King is associated with the color blue, being able to control ice. Blue is often referred to as a soothing color, meant to showcase the Cruel King’s calm and wise nature. It can also represent sadness and depression, which we see in the Cruel King’s tragic and desperate attempts to save his kingdom The Griefer is associated with the color green. This one fits especially well with the Griefer for a multitude of reasons: One: It is often seen as a symbol of youth, which fits well with how immature the Griefer is Two: It is also seen as a symbol of greed and jealousy, which connects to the Griefer’s greedy and envious nature Three: Nature and health are commonly known attributes of the color green, and the Griefer is symbolic of one of these and a corruption of the other. He outright impales his leg with the Venomshank and turns into the Bubonic Plant, meaning he has embraced nature with open arms. Of course, at the cost of his own health, as his cries for help during the boss fight show that this is a fate worse than death As for Hatred, it is very obviously associated with the color red. The color red is often seen as a symbol of wrath, danger, and aggression, all of which Hatred is the literal embodiment of. Hatred can be seen as a symbol of danger in that it is rather manipulative towards the player in the guise of Builderman, and Solitude and Fear even try to warn them of this Hatred also shows a more wrathful side to it during the big plot twist of the chapter, dropping the more kind-hearted disguise and straight up insulting the player It can also be seen as a symbol of aggression, due to being able to attack players a total of four times, and two of its attacks either deal a ton of damage or straight-up one-shot the player if the ghost potion isn’t used. There’s a reason it’s currently the hardest boss in the game Idk if this is intentional or not but it is still super clever regardless, and I really hope we get to see this symbolism with the bosses of later chapters

@@thebestbananabreadouthere yeah many times I tried to use my feel fine card and I just pulled out my sword and hit myself like I wasn’t even using my sword. How did that even happen?
The fact that all of the chapters go over some sort of problem is interesting Chapter 1: how power can corrupted even the kindest. Chapter 2: How no matter who you are, someone loves and cares about you. Chapter 3: How keeping your mental health in check is very important, alongside that a lot of people are willing to listen and help. (Kyoko the goat)
Chapter 1’s boss is more so like “How Despair and desperation can corrupt even the kindest.” Cause we do know that cruel king is corrupted not because of power but because of the fact he saw the future of his kingdom and his people, he wishes to change that future at any cost, he was desperate to save his people
If the time travel theory is to be believed, this fight is much more tragic than it first appears. I mean, it's incredibly likely the protagonist wishes to change something in the future. What that is, we don't know yet, but this chapter confirms that whatever happened was BAD. We can see that whenever our character sees some of the NPCs we're close to. Kyoko in particular is a dead giveaway. There's no true joy in seeing our friend again, just signs that we're not feeling well. If our mission is to save Builderman, why are we upset with seeing our friend, who should have no relation to our main mission? My (probably false) theory is that Builderman isn't the only one we need to save. The whole world ends in the future. It's why every character we talk to evokes a feeling of pain within us; in some forgotten time, we've seen their corpses. It's why the backdrops of the Dream World are desolate and destroyed. The Fear and Hatred sections in particular show abandoned cities (note how no other people, even enemies, are seen in that section) and burning ruins. The places we remember are destroyed. And if the world's been destroyed, what does that say about the protagonist? They feel absolutely horrible. Hell, anyone would be feeling horrible if your entire world was destroyed. Going back in time doesn't erase the feelings and likely survivor's guilt the protagonist is dealing with. Thus, the tragedy of the Hatred fight slowly becomes clear. It's not hatred of the world, hatred of any one particular villain, or just hatred in general. It's hatred of ourselves, a self-loathing so potent it's currently the strongest enemy in the game by a MILE. And if Hatred is attacking us, that means it wants us dead. The protagonist's Hatred wants them dead, which means a part of themselves wishes for death, and if that part of themselves is so absurdly strong... how much does our player character hate themselves? How much do they want their own demise? It explains why this feels so much like a final boss because, in a way, it is. The protagonist is fighting for themselves. They're fighting for Shedletsky, for Kyoko, for the ghost chef, for Red and Blue, for every single wacky friend they've made during their journey. They're fighting for the will to live. This battle is so much more important than many could ever know. This is a battle between the protagonist's desire to live and their desire to die.
Cause chapter 3 is where things get serious, and in this chapter you have to learn dodging the hard way lol And also meaning that you need to be worthy another for other chapters like 4, 5, 6, and 7 so basically chapter 3 is just a warning for the other hard chapters lol
chapter 1 final boss: “i will protect this kingdom” chapter 2 final boss: “1 w1ll k1l1 y0u” chapter 3 final boss: *transforms into a heart used as a womb for the embodiment of hatred* what is chapter 4 gonna be…
the only thing they could do is wind it down for a chapter or two and then throw the bar beyond mount everest where they put it with this chapter, that's the only way i can see this going
Greed Teaches you how to be greedy. Solitude teaches you to be friendly and not to be alone. Fear teaches you how to be fearful for the harms in this world. Hatred teaches you how to hate everyone in the server for no reason.
@@Lol-sv1zyImho it works great with most battle themes, it gives them that goofy "uh-oh, time to panic" kind of vibe, but if there was an option to disable this just for the bossfights I definitely would use it.
1:30 I love this part, although the other IMPURITIES theme just straight up show what they are, this part not only shows you dread and HATRED, but also yourself. It gives a sense of epicness, afterall, you are battling your HATRED, so you won't be hating more besides it also feels so "nicopatty", it's really his themes characteristic
@Hunter00555 The other emotions will also be back, considering you feel fear during and before the fight Also, hatred became tame, meaning we can control it, why else do you think it would say it became tame
slasher dies, turns into a ghost THEN takes the ghostwalker would've been a nice alternate to the chapter (considering the way they exited after the fight though, they're probably already dead and can therefore take the ghostwalker?)
The apparitions were a real game changer when it came to insulting dialouge like it used to be stuff like "U noob!!!!" but the appariotion's dialouge is stuff like "You hate your loved ones"
Fun fact: If you try to use Prayer card in this battle, it'll say "your prayer was absorbed by darkness". I love that reference, good job y'all(the developer team).
@@Not_Alaniusfor some reason i used it near the end of the battle and it basically one-shots the boss and its companions, but i think it's very rare that it happens. if only i had a clip of it... Edit: i realised that when hatred is 20HP or under 20HP then he can be one-shotted with prayer card.
Not only that, but Hatred’s charge attack’s flavor test is something like “YOU CANNOT GRASP THE SHEER POWER OF HATRED’S ATTACK”. Plus, Hatred looks kinda like how giygas did back in MOTHER 1
The game went from “oooh spoooky Halloween!!” To: “You will reflect upon your actions, and learn to suffer from them, as we have suffered from being born by you…”
This chapter was bravo, absolutely perfect. ive never heard a theme that captures the feeling of dread yet tells you to push on saying that youve got this. dont even get me started on how hatred works, i have such a bad mental state that i deal with major self hatred and sometimes it feels like you have to fight for control, which is what i love about this fight, its a fight for control, will your hatred get to your head or will you actually be able to over come it? and as someone thats been there, its intense, which the battle theme delivers perfectly, the small bits of the song going out of the tension and becoming light hearted is like the glimmer of hope in you telling you "cmon, youve got this!! destroy it once and for all!!" is a beautiful story telling within a song. thank you for such a masterpiece, Guy, and we cant forget Nico either, thank you so much the both of you!!
fr, some people don't get the psychological horror, and are left in *confusion* by the end of the chapter. also, i saw someone say that this is inspired from another dev's past mental issues, not sure if it's true, but if it is... good god. can't imagine how one goes through this.
even the fight feels like that to me, pushing yourself past the hatred of being hit by the confusion effect and the attacks arent too hard to dodge, its just that theyre pretty fast
I was on 2 hp with confusion effect and i couldn't do anything more than use smth cuz i was solo and my dumbadd hitted him self ending me up dying (i already beaten the chapter btw)

The entire chapter was a MASSIVE surreal experience. The feeling of exploring, seeing all the fun and quirky characters, hearing and empathizing with the distressful undertones of abuse and trauma; and then the game totally 180s on you and throws you into this total psychological hellscape from WAY out of left field. Had a lot of fun playing this!
honestly i sound wacky but this was probably foreshadowed by red and blue; iirc they said noobador took them in because purple and green were shitty parents
This is what makes the game so great. The raw emotions is displays go unfiltered and aren't sugar-coated. Those feelings are real, and the game treats them as such.
Expecting the final boss to be the slasher, and ended up being a complete bait and switch was actually funny yet cool. The dream bosses kept having me at the edge of my seat. But this one completely takes the god damn cake. You, the player, suffered a lot till chapter 3. And you now have to battle those dark wicked emotions bottled up deep down inside if you. Greed, solitude, fear.. and lastly hatred. This chapter's dream sequences reminded me a lot on how people want to get away from, improve from, grow up and move on from. Yet those terrible feeling always hide out there somewhere in your mind, waiting to take over you, reincarnating as manifestations to pull you down. They done pulled the most omori/earthbound ass shit ever with mixtures of yume nikki and I loved it. This chapter was honestly one of the best things I have seen from a roblox game. Me and my friends enjoyed this a lot and we can't wait for chapter 4. Good job to the dev team.

Solitude and Fear managed to see through Hatred's disguise as Builderman, Greed, blinded by you falling to the oldest trick in the book, didn’t realize Builderman was Hatred. Although you managed to kill the first 3 emotions, you did not kill Hatred, you tamed IT. He's gone, for now...

This boss truly reminded me of my mother, who had BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). She's looking HATRED to see me as better than her. It's tragic to see her look like what I imagined her as a devil.
What I imagined if this part had lyrics 1:59 “TELL ME HERO, HOW MUCH DOES IT WEIGH YOU?” “TELL ME HERO, HOW DOES IT SUSTAIN YOU?” “TELL ME HERO, DO YOU MISS YOUR OLD LIFE?” “TELL ME HERO, HOW DO DEAL WITH ALL THE STRIFE?” 2:07 “GREED, FEAR, AND SOLITUDE.” “WITHOUT THEM, WHAT DO YOU PROVE?” “OH HERO…YOUR END IS SOON.”
my personal take: TELL ME "HERO", DO YOU FEEL, A NEED TO TAKE IT ALL? TELL ME "HERO", DO YOU MISS, THE SAFE COM-FI-NESS OF A ROOM? TELL ME "HERO", DO YOU WORRY THAT THOSE WHO YOU HAVE SLAUGHTERED WILL COOME... FOOR... RE-VENGE? (casually leitmotifed greed, solitude and fear :3)
1:44 This part right here always gave me a boost of confidence while battling. Even though I beat him 2nd try, hearing this part made it feel like it's been try 100th and I'm finally close to the end. Great OST.
this entire boss was an earthbound reference. like the whole thing. its silhouette is just giuege's, the colors and theming are very much just giygas', the song has melodies of porky means business all throughout it (and a bit of gasters theme if you want to be schizobob), as well as having the giygas attacks theme (part of the earthbound intro) at 2:44 (some people will def know this from megalo strike back instead cuz its also used in that) this felt like a FINAL final boss and somehow this is only the final boss of the third chapter 😭
Yapping warn💥💥 Since we saw that Block Tales is willing to shift its mood into literally THIS, i had a thought abt the ending Maybe the end is gonna tell us some philosophical stuff like "you cant always stare at the past, u need to focus on the present and live your future" and we have to choose between staying in the past, with all the friends we made but knowing that we'll have to abandon them again someday, only delaying the inevitable, or we could choose to go back to the future/present and the game kicks us out to enjoy our choice. And its not like im being delulu (i might be ngl), the game already touched on a subject like this w the Cruel King, the reason he even got the icedagger in the first place was because The Voices(tm) convinced him his kingdom would be gone in the near future and he couldnt deal with the idea that he would have to say goodbye to it (we dont even know if it would actually be gone, the voices could be lying) so he decided to freeze it in time. Heck, the reason why WE are in the past in the first place could be bc we wished we could go back to old roblox so we wouldnt deal w the bad decisions that are coming up nowadays, we keep looking at the past with rose tinted glasses and only focusing on the bad stuff of today. K yapping section over💥💥
When I saw builderman in the dream world I got a lil bit wierded out and got a lot of questions and as More we progresed the questions became suspicions like when he told me to grab the TIX before fighting greed I was like "souldn't he tell me to not grab this?", and in one point somebody typed in the chat "DO NOT TRUST BUILDERMAN" right before he revealed he was hatred all along and i literally screamed " I KNEW IT"
1st chapter: "Lets go save Builderman!" 2nd chapter: "Yikes, things are actually getting serious." 3rd chapter: "HELPHELPHELPHELPHELP GETMEOUTGETMEOUTGETMEOUT PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE!!!"
I like how the chapter slowly shifts into horror, the dream world is cool and the greed boss in unnerving but still cool then a bunch of ducks ratio you then trees are scary then it turns into body horror then into gigs boss during chapter 3 which means we still have 4 chapters to go and this boss was literally the embodiment of negative emotion so imagine what’s next
This is my most favorite soundtrack from Block Tales now. This soundtrack just symbolizes stupidity and your hatred upon yourself. The eerie sections are like a feeling of not accepting yourself and hating yourself for your natural stupidity which lead to this battle. Those guitar sections are like times where you're finally accepting yourself, redeeming who you are, ready for redemption. I got goosebumps just by listening to this.
spoiler but his appearance is based off Giegue, who isn't defeatable by traditional means whatsoever in the games he first appeared in. I see they didn't want to just copy paste the formula so they made the fight actually challenging to make up for it perhaps
Not to mention I think its actually a leitmotif referencing Bizville! They both sound really similar, but I could be wrong. It just sounds so distinct like its meant to be anyways
I thought the game was easy and was just saying the entire time “they should buff this shi lol” until I got to the final boss. Instantly regretted what I said
GAME THEORY: All the previous bosses talked about "Voices" compelling them, and it has a lietmotif to Bubonic Plant, so what if Hatred existed in a realm between all the swords?
i've seen people say that the reason we touch the ghostwalker was out of sheer stupidity but what if we knew exactly what we were doing? what if we wanted to actually perish out of our own free will? after everything we see in the dream world it does feel like that was the exact reason which is rather morbid to think about...
Yea… I’d rather think of stupidity Don’t get me wrong, you’re definitely onto something but the idea that we did it to actually perish by these means sends chills down my spine
@@Officially_Unofficial-1 that reminds me of a certain line i heard once... i think it went as"YOU HAVE CHOSEN THIS PATH" or something along that line...two more i think?

Glad I'm not the only one who picked up on this. There's more to back this up, too. We can attack ourselves when we're confused, and one of the Apparition's lines is "you're only hurting yourself..." If this is what the game is implying, then massive props for having the guts to do that kind of thing.
3 most common things when you fight hatred 1."player received mortal damage" 2."player was too confused and hit someone random 3."cruel king collapsed ed n blue collapsed\gorrila collapsed"
what not many people are talking about is: if shedletsky got us to get the 7 swords to save builderman, we thought we're saving him from someone else. but since he is hatred himself, who/what are we saving him from exactly...? from himself...? and another thing, i wanna remind you all that this is our character's mind, so what is our character even going through? and even the fact that with the confusion effect, the first thing we immediately do while confused is attack ourselves/our allies. so does our character wanna die...? good god, this game took a dark turn. from quality rpg, to psychological horror. guys, mb, builderman isn’t hatred, it’s just hatred pretending to be builderman. you can even see this, as before you wake up, builderman’s text is in hatred’s color instead of orange.
don’t forget that some of the npcs in the manor ask the player if they are okay, and don’t even get me started on kyoko’s lines of dialogue. this really only makes it obvious that gathering these swords is really taking a toll on the player, so maybe that is why they attack themselves and/or others when confused [and possibly why they came into contact with the ghostwalker in the first place?]
The only thing I dont agree with: Nope , builderman is actualy good, but since hatred *knows* that we want to save builderman, it took his form Also, it was the Best place to do it since it would actualy be belivable, the whole disapearing thing is strange. *Hatred is smarter than we think*
Every time that attack started I definitely felt EXISTENTIAL DREAD as it struck and even more when it actually hit me and now I’m back to gaining sp to heal myself again. :/
@@AlekseyKoTReal tip: just focus on blocking that one super guarding it is just not worth it as it barely deals any damage if you block it and doesn’t give the effect on the other hand missing a super guard gives you 3 turns of confusion which can easily screw you over.
The projectile block timing is stupid early, I recommend train wheels. You basically have to block when the projectile is in the center on the screen (a bit more on hatreds side)
Playing through all the chapters up until this point made me realize that when Griefer in the previous chapter talks about "the voices" and how he says "The Venomshank will be 'ours'", the text color pretty much matches Hatred's. It's also interesting how he says "ours" (in the same shade of crimson as Hatred) instead of "mine", which leads me to believe he took Hatred as part of himself instead of purifying and getting rid of it much like what we did in this chapter, or simply the other way around where Hatred has partial control over him. But at the same time he hasn't been in possession of the sword up until we meet him again at the top of the tree, so the theory above is a little shaky, unless close proximity to the sword is enough to incur hearing "the voices". Do note that he could be working for someone else entirely, because as far as the game goes right now, it doesn't seem like he works for anyone, he just seems to work alongside his Hatred for now. To me, Griefer is what happens when one fails to conquer Hatred, he became blinded by it, twisted into an uncontrollable monster to the point that even he lost control of himself, and he ultimately harmed himself and the people around him in the end because of it. (Which is a nod to the whole "You're only hurting yourself." and "You only hurt others." text in the hateful dream realm.)

I actually began to notice a color theory with all the bosses in this game:
The Cruel King is associated with the color blue, being able to control ice. Blue is often referred to as a soothing color, meant to showcase the Cruel King’s calm and wise nature. It can also represent sadness and depression, which we see in the Cruel King’s tragic and desperate attempts to save his kingdom
The Griefer is associated with the color green. This one fits especially well with the Griefer for a multitude of reasons:
One: It is often seen as a symbol of youth, which fits well with how immature the Griefer is
Two: It is also seen as a symbol of greed and jealousy, which connects to the Griefer’s greedy and envious nature
Three: Nature and health are commonly known attributes of the color green, and the Griefer is symbolic of one of these and a corruption of the other. He outright impales his leg with the Venomshank and turns into the Bubonic Plant, meaning he has embraced nature with open arms. Of course, at the cost of his own health, as his cries for help during the boss fight show that this is a fate worse than death
As for Hatred, it is very obviously associated with the color red. The color red is often seen as a symbol of wrath, danger, and aggression, all of which Hatred is the literal embodiment of.
Hatred can be seen as a symbol of danger in that it is rather manipulative towards the player in the guise of Builderman, and Solitude and Fear even try to warn them of this
Hatred also shows a more wrathful side to it during the big plot twist of the chapter, dropping the more kind-hearted disguise and straight up insulting the player
It can also be seen as a symbol of aggression, due to being able to attack players a total of four times, and two of its attacks either deal a ton of damage or straight-up one-shot the player if the ghost potion isn’t used. There’s a reason it’s currently the hardest boss in the game
Idk if this is intentional or not but it is still super clever regardless, and I really hope we get to see this symbolism with the bosses of later chapters
Shi wait keep cooking you might be onto something
I wonder what colour the firebrand wielder will be

I just love how they just hid the mind area from the trailer and the picture of the game, that makes it even more surprising and cool
This is an incredibly well-thought-out theory, respect the dedication.
Lovely read.

This part right here always gave me a boost of confidence while battling.
Glad I am not the only one who noticed the musical reference the tune labelled The Evil Giygas Attacks! Part 2 in the Earthbound OST.
it has the earthbound cave noises inside the track as well (cave of the past and the regular cave noises)
its kinda like ness's nightmare if it was a bit more fleshed out, i love it
Fun fact: If you check Hatred’s moveset, the thunder move is called “PK Thunder”. So yes, this is an entire Earthbound refrence

Yapping warn💥💥
Since we saw that Block Tales is willing to shift its mood into literally THIS, i had a thought abt the ending
Maybe the end is gonna tell us some philosophical stuff like "you cant always stare at the past, u need to focus on the present and live your future" and we have to choose between staying in the past, with all the friends we made but knowing that we'll have to abandon them again someday, only delaying the inevitable, or we could choose to go back to the future/present and the game kicks us out to enjoy our choice.
K yapping section over💥💥

i am genuinely scared for chapter 4
this game went from "goofy adventure story game" to "A PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR ADVENTURE"
This boss was probably difficult just for you to hate it for being difficult. You are becoming part of it… *Hatred*
Well glad I overcame mine.

I was breezing through this chapter and then builderman called me pathetic

spoiler but his appearance is based off Giegue, who isn't defeatable by traditional means whatsoever in the games he first appeared in.

DUDE GOOD POINT
Yea… I’d rather think of stupidity
Don’t get me wrong, you’re definitely onto something but the idea that we did it to actually perish by these means sends chills down my spine
@@Officially_Unofficial-1 that reminds me of a certain line i heard once... i think it went as"YOU HAVE CHOSEN THIS PATH" or something along that line...two more i think?
im pretty sure by going throught all this you can actually touch the ghostwalker without being qsfokisjhlfj'ed because if not then you wont even able to use it
Glad I'm not the only one who picked up on this.
There's more to back this up, too. We can attack ourselves when we're confused, and one of the Apparition's lines is "you're only hurting yourself..."
If this is what the game is implying, then massive props for having the guts to do that kind of thing.

3 most common things when you fight hatred
1."player received mortal damage"
2."player was too confused and hit someone random
3."cruel king collapsed

what not many people are talking about is: if shedletsky got us to get the 7 swords to save builderman, we thought we're saving him from someone else. but since he is hatred himself, who/what are we saving him from exactly...? from himself...?
and another thing, i wanna remind you all that this is our character's mind, so what is our character even going through? and even the fact that with the confusion effect, the first thing we immediately do while confused is attack ourselves/our allies. so does our character wanna die...?
good god, this game took a dark turn. from quality rpg, to psychological horror.
guys, mb, builderman isn’t hatred, it’s just hatred pretending to be builderman. you can even see this, as before you wake up, builderman’s text is in hatred’s color instead of orange.
Its crazy how the character will never miss that attack
don’t forget that some of the npcs in the manor ask the player if they are okay, and don’t even get me started on kyoko’s lines of dialogue. this really only makes it obvious that gathering these swords is really taking a toll on the player, so maybe that is why they attack themselves and/or others when confused [and possibly why they came into contact with the ghostwalker in the first place?]
@@JustAGenericGoofyFool yeah, we knew we would die from the ghostwalker, yet we attempted to grab it anyway.
@@TheRealFedriko i agree but maybe our character just thought that they were pure?
The only thing I dont agree with:
Nope , builderman is actualy good, but since hatred *knows* that we want to save builderman, it took his form
Also, it was the Best place to do it since it would actualy be belivable, the whole disapearing thing is strange.
*Hatred is smarter than we think*
me blocking 3 of hatred’s projectiles at 12 HP only to get struck by the fucking 15 damage lightning bolt

that attack is really easy to me, but the 3 projectile one isnt... idk whats wrong with me
@@AlekseyKoTReal tip: just focus on blocking that one super guarding it is just not worth it as it barely deals any damage if you block it and doesn’t give the effect on the other hand missing a super guard gives you 3 turns of confusion which can easily screw you over.
Griefer is stated to be an ally in a future chapter by one of the devs, this means we may end up defeating his hatred (somehow) in the future
Also, when Shedletsky refers to "Them", he uses the text color Hatred uses. When he refers to *_Us,_* we also use that color.
