    We’re buying a 1950s property with recently added brown windows. We hate the colour of the UPVC but as they are new we don’t want to replace them. Having stumbled across your video we are 100% more confident to paint them ourselves and give them a brand new look. Thanks for sharing this!

    Hi, great video, really helpful.
    Have a question on the finish.
    When the window opens outwards. Is a white line around the frame where window would open and close acceptable or do you mask off somehow to get this painted too?
    thanks.
    IK

    • @thepropertyfixers3028
      @thepropertyfixers3028  3 года назад

      Good question. I've masked it off from the inside after opening the window as wide as possible on larger windows. On smaller ones I used cardboard to block the opening.
      You could leave a white bit if you want but it looks terrible when the windows are open.
      Hope this helps

    That's a great help, thanks. I've patio doors that need this treatment, newer than the rest of the windows which we're due to replace. This will help with getting rid of the feuchie broon as we call it here in Aberdeenshire lol. I'll look through the comments to find the materials you used - hopefully, Screwfix and Toolstation in Aberdeen can supply all. It'll be the same RAL code that you used that I'll need. Fingers crossed it goes well......

    @The Property Fixers Hi there 👋 The products used and techniques you demonstrated in this vid provided the most aesthetically pleasing outcome that I've seen from painting PVC windows in my hours of online and RUclips research. My only issue is that I live in The U.S. 🙄😂 and it appears that Kolorbond is not a distributor in the states. Would you be able to recommend any products or kits, for those of us across the pond, that would work in the same fashion and provide similar, if not exact, results to what you've achieved here? Thanks for any help you can offer, our front windows could really use a revamp!

    • @thepropertyfixers3028
      @thepropertyfixers3028  3 года назад

      Hi Victor, the Kolorbond paint is marketed as being able to bond to rubber....but....i did actually mask over it as I don't want to run the risk. The masking tape is quite translucent when applied and that perhaps makes it look like it wasn't applied to the rubber.
      I would suggest though that you do leave a very tiny edge of rubber unmasked to allow the paint to cover all the Pvc, otherwise you run the risk of still having some of the old colour visible when the tape is peeled off.
      Thank you for viewing the video 🙂

  • @photus03
    @photus03 4 года назад +2

    great job. what are the basic specs for your gun? kolorbond have recommended i use a HVLP gun with a 1.4mm nozzle/cfm 4.5. i plan to use a 3HP /100ltr compressor /14cfm. can i also ask how is removing the old silicone? is it a difficult procedure?

    • @thepropertyfixers3028
      @thepropertyfixers3028  4 года назад

      Thanks, I'm using the Iwata AZ3 with the standard 1.3mm nozzle. I prefer this one as I can regulate the air pressure with the built in valve on the bottom. Your compressor will be more that enough to do it, I think my one has a maximum 10cfm.
      Honestly, the silicon is a bitch, I'd recommend a sharp Stanley blade to cut as big a V as you can to remove a lot of it first. Then believe it or not I found a big flat blunt screwdriver at a shallow angle worked best to remove the remainder silicon off the Pvc frame.
      Hope this helps 👍

    Excellent video
    Will be a job for after winter now ❄️❄️
    Couple of questions
    First did you mask off the black rubber exterior seal or was that coated with paint?
    Second already have a paint sprayer (erbauer 700w hvlp) would this work for painting window frames?

    • @thepropertyfixers3028
      @thepropertyfixers3028  3 года назад

      Yes I normally mask off the rubber but not right to the very edge of the Pvc otherwise when you take the tape off you might still see some of the original colour. So tend to overlap and spray about 1mm of the rubber.
      I wouldn't recommend using that sprayer. We have the same one and use it for masonry painting and since you can't regulate the air pressure I don't think it would be good enough.
      Hope this helps

    • @thepropertyfixers3028
      @thepropertyfixers3028  3 года назад

      I just used their standard UPVC paint and it hasn't let me down yet.
      As long as the ambient air is dry and above 8'c I've closed the door after around 2 - 2.5 hours and not had any issues. But I'd always suggest trying to leave it as long as you can.

      It shouldn't do if enough coats are added but just to be on the safe side, it may be best to go over with a multi surface clearcoat lacquer. That being said, most durable/external paints are designed to be safe regardless of weather/stress so best to read up on whichever paint you choose and go from there 😊
