  • I recently upgrated/restomodded my 1988 Raleigh Technium 'The Chill' mountain bike, and found that the seatpost was an unusual size: a 26.8mm was too tight, but a 26.6 was too loose. In order to solve this issue I chucked a 26.8mm seatpost into a drill and sanded it down using some fine sandpaper followed by polishing it using some metal polishing compound. This method can also be used to polish a dull or scratched seatpost.
This method will remove metal from the seatpost and if you go too far there is a chance of weakening the seatpost too much and making it unsafe. Proceed at your own risk!
