Testing my 1988 Raleigh Technium 'The Chill' Mountain Bike Restomod
I recently built up a 1988 Raleigh Technium 'The Chill' vintage frameset with a modern 1x10 Microshift AdventX drivetrain. This is a very unusual bike because it uses aluminum main tubes thermally bonded to steel lugs, and it is also from the era when mountain bikes used rear u-brakes mounted on the chainstays. The spec of this bike is:
1x10 AdventX Drivetrain, 11-48T Chassette
Custom Shimano Deore/Sun Ringle Rhyno Lite Wheels
Panaracer FireXCPro 26x2.1" Tires
Praxis Alba Crankset w/ Sram X-Sync 2 Eagle 34T Chainring
Chromag Trailmaster LTD Leather Saddle
Avid Shorty Ultimate Front Cantilever Brake
Dia-Compe AD-996 Rear U-Brake

Collecting, Cooking & Eating a Chicken of the Woods Mushroom

Chicken of the Woods is one of the easiest to identify wild edible mushrooms which has no toxic look-alikes and which can be found world-wide from spring to fall. Crosswalk Warning Flashers are Pointless (Bike Path Road Crossings)
Просмотров 358День назад
Many recreational trails have been popping up around Lansing, Michigan thanks to a county-wide trails millage (Ingham County Trails and Parks Millage). This has necessitated new road crossings, many of which feature pedestrian-controlled flashing warning lights like this one. it really is all down to how you prepare em, i thought i hated brussel sprouts but thats because all i would do is boil em. these would definitely go well if cooked with some yummy spices and unburnt oil- if you season your shrooms good and have a nice side dish, you got it.

A very nice collection! It's true it is best to buy what one needs the most. Myself being guilty of sometimes buying 'ínteresting stuff' off second hand auction sites and really not using it. Keeping it small makes one more flexible, and requires some creativity to do some jobs anyway. It is a hobby for me anyway. Actually it is quite hard to make money with bicycle repairs here in the land of the more bicycles then humans... Btw also love your videos on my country.

Hi off the top of my head it's a little torx screw maybe a T10 and if there are Allen screws maybe a 2.5mm but I can't remember for sure right now. Pretty sure a micro screwdriver set with torx and a small selection of metric Allen keys is all you need

Your lack of research on a £500 tent aside 😀, an initial pitch with no prep is a great proxy for the day you arrive at a campsite, dog tired, failing light, pouring rain, and then erecting whilst attempting to keep the inner dry. I have the 2P Nemo and really like it - but had to practice setting it up a couple of times. On my previous tent, I used the frame to stretch out the footprint first. This made it easy to see the lay of the land. Only when I was happy, I would retrieve the inner/fly from the tent bag and attach to the frame. I am seriously considering adding eyelets to my stupidly expensive footprint to get similar functionality.

They're called Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, or RRFBs for short. They have been shown to increase driver yielding behavior by up to 90%. these are NOT Hawk / Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons. The two different systems are used in different situations depending on the Speeds, AADT, distance crossed at once, etc.

  • @ZackN85
    @ZackN85 11 дней назад

I don't know the exact law in Michigan, but it seems like if the pedestrian took one step onto the crosswalk, the drivers would be "required to" (but wouldn't) stop. It seems bonkers that they would spend all this money to not even stop traffic. It's jarring to have a sign for pedestrians that functionally codifies that drivers don't have to follow the law. But year, these HAWK beacon things seem less than worthless. Similar ones that trigger an actual red light would probably cost the same. Having nothing would almost be better than these because at least then pedestrians wouldn't get the impression they're protected.

I think you mentioned it but seriously some kind of a sensing system for the walkers/cyclists (More the cyclists certainly) would make a big difference. Having a cyclist who's making 20 plus stop to zero MPH is asinine when you consider he's often got a green light in that direction! All of this feels very typical in that no one wants to inhibit the driving or the cars. Not even the idea of making it a less dangerous crossing situation.

Yes. I find this kind of stuff quite interesting. I’m not sure if that’s unusual! I’m from Adelaide South Australia. Although there are HUGE amounts of unoccupied land in the state, obviously urban development probably makes economic sense. So the same sort of thing happens here. Adelaide is quite a bit larger than Lansing but the majority of the population of the state is either in Adelaide or a few larger country centres. In my research I discovered that Lansing and Adelaide share about the same time for European settlement. You have a good knowledge of flora. You mentioned the Monarch butterfly which has found a home here in Australia. The milkweed that it feeds on seems to have arrived at the same time. Anyway they think they’ve been here for over 150 years. In my own suburban environment there are remnants of farms that existed before the urban sprawl started. All the farming just moved further out. Those pines had the appearance of Norfolk Island pines which was quite a popular introduced species here. I’m not sure if they are those or not.

One complaint about this bike frame I heard, is that it is difficult to mount a rear rack, because the eyelets at the back are in a " special " place. They look like mounts for bottle cages, but who would put bottle cages there? Anyway, a special bike indeed !

I guess the advantage is that it provides a way to tension the chain for singlespeed or hub gear builds (e.g. Rohloff). They could have use sliding dropouts for that but I guess manufacturing would have been more expensive.

I bought a new derailer hanger, no luck. New cassette, no luck. New derailer, no luck. Check chain length, no luck (though it was 2links too short). Well yeah… when I replaced the derailer I ran the cable the same BACKWARDS way as the previous derailer!!! Such a simple fix for my bone-headed mechanic work. Everything shifts great now. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, the car wash is "Tommy's Express Car Wash". I was looking at maps. It's all kind of depressing. I get you. Probably a lot of this has to do with the city not wanting to have to pay for the upkeep of a park compared to the upkeep of the previous golf course with the presumption that a park would be (should be) free access to the public, while a golf course would of had greens fees, cart rentals, and money from sales (pro shops) coming in all the time. They just wanted to be done with it and use the sale money from the land for other things. Very shortsighted of them. Also totally agree about the old shopping mall and those in general. You've got something already there for business and redevelopment without tearing up the open spaces. With the housing concerns, yes there needs to be that for people to live, but when too much of that is done, too massively, in brand new from the ground up areas, obviously there's a big profit motivation in play and it's going to mean more cars and more traffic and a lower quality of life. Even a more hazardous quality of life on a bicycle.

I have to check this out, as a swiss Konstanz is not that far away... If you are already so close to Switzerland: maybe you check out Luzern? It's not a particular "bikey" city but it's improving. And there is a wonderful bike road called Freigleis that was implemented on top of an abandonded rail track path. And if you follow it, you can cycle along the shores of the lake and across the Lopper tunnel (Seestrasse) which is very unique and beautiful. Oh, and you could also cycle to Emmenbrücke via Xylophonweg - approach it from Bruchstrasse which is a "Fahrradstrasse" too, one with beautiful colorful houses and cute little shops. Xylophonweg (a dedicated bike street) is just on the side of river Reuss - a beautiful cycle trip to the industrial suburb of Emmenbrücke.
