Jesus Christ, everything Phoebe Bridgers touches is gold. Seeing her in under a month and have been listening non-stop. Coming home to see this was a HUGE treat.
Most of Phoebe's singles also have the same ghosts painted over kids. I think they're childhood photos of hers (she shared the original photo of the album cover on her Instagram last September). Anyway, definitely check her out! She's amazing!
It's a solid, solid album. There are some absolute gems on there. The strangest thing, however, is seeing Conor Oberst rocking Converse. I have NEVER seen that man wear Converse in all his years.
Damn, what a great surprise. I'm absolutely loving this album. Oberst and Bridgers are two of my favorite contemporary folk artists and it's great to see them working together.
Spent high school back in the early/mid aughts hooked on listening to Bright Eyes, my main pastime then. I love Conor and really enjoy Phoebe Bridger's music. I'm wedged in the middle of their respective generations so it's a really refreshing listen. I never thought I'd have an interest in seeing Conor perform again, but this may be it. High school never dies.
Just scored tickets to see them in London in May. Phoebe is new to my life, Conor has been there for fifteen something years. I’m utterly in love with both of them
I feel soo grateful for this gift! I’ve grown up with Conor’s music and since his health scare, I was afraid we weren’t going to get much more music from him. I wish I could thank him for saving my life with his hella relatable and often dark yet beautiful poetry. This is soo fun and fresh for him, I am living for BOCC!
They are - Phoebe's using that Deusenberg in the pitchfork live vid of boygenius from this year, so it's definitely hers unless Conor just has a look-alike.
carstereobandits I was thinking the same thing or even earlier. Reminds me of listening to REM while hair bands disappeared and grunge came along. REM rewrote college rock all the while doing their own thing.
The album is fuckin' good. Y'all need to hop on whatever stream services you use and listen to them. And also, lol at the people saying Phoebe can't sing.

yeah and Phoebe Bridgers sounds a lot like Mary Lou Lord ruclips.net/video/_CHYR5wl9PU/видео.html this is scary seems like there is some kind of hole in the universe.
Bridgers doesn't stop making music and I'm loving every second of it.
Conor hasn’t stopped making music since he was 13... he’s gonna be 41 next month.
I just realized that they're playing eachothers guitars lol
Their places on stage are switched also. The truth is anybody’s guess. ❤

HelloSadness101 you mean Conor
@@petepete9831 por que no los dos
sisforsurfing cause she’s new
Agreed. I saw her last year when she was on that boygenius tour with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. She's incredible live. They all are tbh.
Was this really a prayer? You addressed comment to the Lord...
"That ghost is just a kid in a sheet" Very nice!
@@mitchhallum8923 Oh yeah, I could see that but I was reacting more to the reference to Phoebe's first album cover.

FloraNB Yeah I really liked the dancing ghosts on Christmas Song. She’s hilarious, great Instagram
this is actually bout trump and presidents like him lmao so that’s ironic

Honestly I think I might like it more than Punisher
It took me eight seconds to realise how good this was. Sorry for being slow.
I just laughed out loud, alone in my flat :D
They swapped their guitars.. My heart ♥️
Just catching up-but I'm in love with this record. Was thinking the Danelectro sparklejet was an interesting choice for Oberst
Damn, what a great surprise. I'm absolutely loving this album. Oberst and Bridgers are two of my favorite contemporary folk artists and it's great to see them working together.
folk?
md.sohel
@@TheAuntiePatty Yes, both are very acclaimed indie folk/folk rock artists. This song might not be the best indication of that.
oops i meant to reply earlier...thanks for schooling me @@joecormier4242 -- obviously i have more listening to do, good thing I'm not dead yet...
@@TheAuntiePatty For the folks, by the folks. Good thing, Indeed. Grab some headphones or good speakers and explore their Catalogs.
Big Star, The Replacements, Teenage Fanclub - love that sound! Of course it's College Rock, complete with nods to poetry and film.
Yeah this is borderline experimental but a love letter to a genre
I love the self loathing. Taking a shower at the Bates Motel is my new favourite metaphor for being screwed.
I love how they zoom on the wrong guitar for the solo at the end
I love Colbert getting creative in his musical guests.
That is one of the things he brought with him from The Colbert Report.
Seemingly pay-to-play SNL could learn a little something from him.
I heard he uses 3 fingers.

Phoebe Bridgers seriously, stop making so much good music I'm getting crazy. I still have to get over boygenius unbelievable EP. And now this!
Are we ignoring the one constant in every Phoebe group? The look-a-like bassist... as long as she’s there I have faith that it’ll all work out
Ricardo Treehi it’s the same person. Her name is Emily Retsas and she’s wonderful.
Andrew Steinle lmao I’m very well aware of who she is, that’s why I made my initial comment 😂
Ricardo Treehi we’re on the same page and everything
No way, that's like totally D'arcy from Smashing Pumpkins!
Emily Retsas!
I still cant believe that these two have now gotten together - absolutely love them!
Conor Oberst will always be my musical god. He's just brilliant.
Just scored tickets to see them in London in May. Phoebe is new to my life, Conor has been there for fifteen something years. I’m utterly in love with both of them

Wonderful song.
Also, truly appreciate the post production and getting creative with it.
Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs on lead?
exactly
I was thinking the same D:
@UCa7C7ejqBphMOXznI8ga_Cw settle down man! it looks like him
It is him! According to Apple Music
that's awesome
90's are alive on Colbert
Thank you, Stephen and company, for showcasing such musical talent!!!!
My heart beats for Conor Oberst ♥️
Turn the tambourine up a bit I reckon...
I jest. This is great.
Anyone call the phone number?
It sends you to a burrito delivery service called, "It's a Wrap."
Colbert didn't f that tongue twister up at all!!! This record is gold! THANK YOU!!!!
this is, by all means, a historic day.
They're playing each other's guitars. Or, at least I assume that's her guitar that Conor is playing.
I believe the guitar conor is holding is his cause i'm pretty sure he played this guitar when he was in desaparecidos

@@smolygonal Deusenberg - you sure? Danelectro maybe? Well spotted at Boygenius either way :-)
Robert Frost They both play em, baritone danelectros, not that hard to come by. Conors been rocking them for a while 👍
You can never be in too many bands. If they're all as good as Conor's. Looking forward to listening to Phoebe Bridgers' stuff 'cos I don't know her..
“boygenius” check them out
Sounds like the mid-90s.
carstereobandits
I was thinking the same thing or even earlier. Reminds me of listening to REM while hair bands disappeared and grunge came along. REM rewrote college rock all the while doing their own thing.
Yup broh
Two fantastic musicians paired = awesomeness squared! Can't wait to see you live, Come play Brooklyn, ny
thank you for having them on your show stephen
I got so nervous when the phone number actually rang😂😂😂 You should hear what’s on the other end 👀
@Martyn Jackson The recording can be heard in a video on the Better Oblivion Community Center youtube channel.
Takes me back to the 90's.
Took me a couple of listens on the album but this is my favorite shit so far! It's good natured !
Love this album... so many great tracks!
Just bought tix to see them play in late Mrach (Chicago). Can't wait!
these folks for sure tasted some good ol' Jesus & Mary Chain...
Yeah this song reminds me of 'Sidewalking'.
That's the kind of band name where you wake up from an all-night kegger party and the first thing you see.
Seeing them soon! 🖤🥀
Legend Phobe, the best female voice around with a legendary bassist,a real great Band.
Great song & album thank you for the vibes, much love!
Just listened to the album today! Love Conor Oberst!
That tambourine sound... love it
Stayed up late and got to hear them...yes, yes, yes!
I absolutely love this. The old school 4:3 is great. I've been listening to the album all morning
They are magic together
So fucking good. People don't write songs like this these days. Except Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst.
Such a wonderful surprise to have YET ANOTHER Phoebe Bridgers infused album come out! So happy!!!!
“I’m taking a shower at the Bates Motel” -> lyrical genius!
@peter g lol was thinking the same thing. honestly it's my least favorite lyric in the whole song. noticeably lower quality than all other lines
just cos you get the reference doesn't make it that clever
lmao y'all are sad
I like that lyric. I thought it was a reference that musicians stay at so many cheap hotels.
2020 still go back too see this video! Rocking those guitars !!!
Nick Zinner just there like its no big deal!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!
The album is fuckin' good. Y'all need to hop on whatever stream services you use and listen to them. And also, lol at the people saying Phoebe can't sing.
YES!
What a great performance, and what a wonderful surprise this record!
This performance is everything.
Love this album. So good.
recall that zinner also played on digital ash
I didn't know Aubrey Plaza played drums!
..Nick Zinner casually shredding in the back.. 🙄
lmao this is trippy, esp when they were in the audience
Loved!
My loves
yes please
Incredible
What chord formations is Conor playing over the solo? That hand shape all over the neck!
Love this
YES. JUST. YES.
This is like the best day of my life
Love it! Sounds great!
Bandname sounds like a good place to hide from The White H...
Screw it. Let's enjoy the music!!
What is white h?
The White House aka the American government

1:29 legit made me lol. These two are so good together.
I thought I was ready to see my two fave artists collab but I obviously wasn't. God, I love them so much. Their voices complement each other so well.
Is the bass player Phoebe Bridgers?
Bart Upah girl singing
Emily Retsas who also plays with Kim Gordon
Nicky Zinner!!!!

For sure!
Is that the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s guitarist?
Yep
Pretty good
Anyone tried calling the number on screen?
Is that Nick Zimmer from YYY's!?
Holy shit what a collective 🫠
proud of our girl
Has anyone called that number? I live in Australia, so I can’t be bothered figuring out how to do it on my end, but any Americans have a go?
I just called but it was unintelligible, just a really (purposefully?) garbled male voice
Check out the Better Oblivion Community Center youtube channel to hear the recording.
Jesus Christ, this is so fcking perfect
Good song.
All the haters, it’s their first live performance. Their album got pretty good reviews.
