Never got into Radiohead because of the high expectation to instantly consider them the best band ever. (Pitchfork please don't take this personally I know they're collectively your favorite band and I know how you love to make long essays about them on a yearly basis on why they're so great but sorry it's just true.) That being said, I love Jonny Greenwood's film scores

Did I miss where they talked about Radiohead? They certainly were the best band in the world when they put out The Bends and OK Computer, but haven't had the longevity/consistency to be considered the best band ever.

Spot on assessment of Pink Floyd. Phoebe is super succinct in interviews and is prone to cutting right through the b.s. when talking about music. I think her brilliance is only just beginning to unfold.

I don’t “Godify” Pink Floyd or any artist/band for that matter, but I feel it is safe to objectively recognize that Dark Side is not overrated. Subjectively, I can understand someone not liking it or connecting with it of course, but I can’t grasp anyone with a knowledge of music to say that it is an overrated album.

Ironically, Phoebe's music is like Pink Floyd. It's so touted and exalted by the fans/press/media that it's hard to hear it without thinking it's "supposed" to be cool. She's a great artist, but I fear the hype might be toxic. It certainly was to Floyd.
I was gonna say how is Pink Floyd overrated but seeing how a lot of music related sites put Dark side of the moon as the "best album ever made in history" I kind of agree. Still, PF is amazing, but people really should stop overrating them so much.
Depression Cherry Pink Floyd might be overrated simply because SO many people have rated them. One way or another. It doesn’t mean they’re flat out bad or good.

If you approach Pink Floyd as "dad rock but better", they're great. If you approach them as "the best rock band in the history of recorded music", there's a 99.99% chance you'll think they're overrated.
i think you said it without even noticing it. tdsotm is overrated in some way, but not pink floyd as a whole. their early projects - hell, even wywh, animals and the wall don't get too much recognition for the works of art they are

Conor is one of the best songwriters of the last few decades and Phoebe is pretty amazing in her own right.
Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers both have solo stuff, but Conor Oberst has a band called Bright Eyes too. If you ever feel down, their music always helped me so you should check them out. They’re amazing

I used to listen to bright eyes, desaparecidos and some commander Venus. Really enjoyed Conor’s stuff, but this PF comment has me thrown for a loop! How does a musician listen to GREATNESS and call it overrated?!
tim it's simple. you yourself really like pink floyd. they recognize that they're an important band, they even called them great, and yet they spoke about another element iconically and culturally that both muddies the waters a bit and indeed is relevant to the conversation regarding 'ratedness,' that is, the ability to live up to the level of magic or experience you're told collectively you 'ought' to have. i feel like you're doing the equivalent of a religious nut, which would be letting your already decided opinion cloud your ability to even empathize, visualize, or hear at all what the other party is stating, in very clear terms at that.

Pink Floyd overrated, huh? Phoebe I love you but, you couldn't be more wrong. If anything they're perfectly rated as one of the best musical acts to ever hit a stage, no question. All love from my end, though.
While I can see where you're coming from, I sort of agree with Phoebe. She says she was never able to listen to pink floyd without an overstimulation of information on it - which is true. There are so many people telling you what you should think about these great bands - which are great historically speaking - that it gets to a point where you don't even know what your own opinion of them is. (perhaps I agree with her simply because we're about the same age and I feel that our generation was never allowed to listen these great/iconic/historic bands/artists without being told how to feel about them, it kinda takes away some of the magic)
@@rrenatabp I just like Pink Floyd and think they did a lot for music culture as a whole. But hey, my ears, my mind, my opinion. (our yours for your case) And that stinks that another person's opinion or words can hinder your opinion on music. If you don't like the sound of the music, thats totally cool but I would never let what other people say effect the way I listen to music. And for the record, Im 26 and have discovered and enjoyed many bands from that era on my own time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Once again, all love.
