Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on Sept. 8, 2015.
What a wonderful guest. One of the world's greatest living directors. Kudos!
🤣🤣
Cuarón, Del Toro and González Iñárritu, the three Mexican magnificos !!
He directed the best Harry Potter film.
Yes, the one with Gary Oldman. My favorite one.
Agree
They should definitely hire him to direct a few episodes of the upcoming HBO Harry Potter show.
100%
by a mile
& one of the reasons The Late Show is so good is that it spans the range from fart jokes to proper philosophical discussions like this. Bravo.
They be keeping it real!!!❤
True but I didn't really understand it 😅
Excuse me….classy fart jokes!
Viva Cuarón!!!!
Kudos to Stephen for the big personal share. That blew me away.
Not only that, but it's a personal story that doesn't put him in the best light, necessarily.
Love Cuarón and his buddies Iñárritu and Guillermo del Toro...If I remember correctly, all 3 of them came together from Mexico to work in film. All 3 distinct in their styles of filmmaking. Beautiful.
And they helped launch the careers of some great actors like Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna.
What film! I'm blasted by this entire segment. Sent chills down my spine, with what these two great humans enlightened anyone watching.
The 3 amigos, which have also all won Academy awards in their respective films.
Alfonso directed Harry Potter 3 and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Hecho en México, damas y caballeros.👍
I love his point that narratives have nothing to do with truth. In many cases this is true, most definitely. Very true Mr. Cuaron. And Colbert holding the conversation in tact with insight too. Nice talk.
People usually forget to mention he directed the best Harry Potter movie, Prisoner of Azkaban.
Good movie, far from being his best work
Such an incredibly gifted filmmaker.
Y Tu Mama También is a classic. One of my favorite movies.
Just finished Disclaimer. Loved it and the twist and the tasteful ending.
Orgullo mexicano, gran director!
indeed buddy! This crazy wave of creative folks coming out from south america is mindboggling!!! cumprimentos de Portugal amigo!
@@ivoferin8176 Isn't Mexico North America? I think I remember reading that.
@@NuiYabuko it is Central america, and being a latino country, Mexico is included in the Iberian america which is Central e South america.
@@ivoferin8176No no, it is North America. Geography is not the same as heritage
@@demundoamundo5950 Correct. Geographically, it is North America. Culturally, it is Mesoamerica.
I finally watched “A Little Princess” yesterday and I really hope one day either criterion, shout or arrow does a blu ray release so Alfonso can do a commentary
Its a beautiful fipm. I watched it when I was a kid...and it changed my whole idea of what movies could be.
♥♥♥
Is it good?
Disclaimer is surprisingly gripping and absolutely thrilling.
indeed it is
Children of Men is an incredible movie.
One of my faves!
Blew me away the first time I saw it! I convinced my boss to see it and he was blown away by it too.
I saw it at the cinema, I was shaken! I have no desire to see it again, but that's because it was great and it affected me so much!
@@tommyt1971 I saw it and Pan's Labyrinth the same day in a movie theater and was wrecked for the rest of the month.
Hands down my favorite movie.
This feels like the shows of 70s. Amazing. ❤
He's a great guest. I hope to see more interviews from him.
More of this, please!
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite movie!
Many people have no idea Alfonso Cuarón directed this Harry Potter movie !
Wow one clip and I'm hooked. I want to see it and know more now. Good premise.
Genius since Great Expectations!
such a humble yet brilliant director
Stephen you rock 🪨
i loved his sense of humor!
"You're the better storyteller." Indeed. The coin has two sides as it turns out. Clever man.
wow que duro para la madre oír ese comentario tan honesto de parte del hijo, such a blow to suffer, what a ruff coment, what an honest coment from her son about her own story, how painful to hear those words coming from her son
Wonderful interview!
We love alfonso cuaron
Solo con tu pareja a wonderful movie. ❤
Alfonso Cuarón es un genio.
Narratives are personal. Yes, that's not the score, you have your own scope and why didnt you throw that false thinker out. ❤ But let a river flow, it is a natural occurrence.
the drowning scene was superb ! and not to mention the naughty scene about kylie minogue !
Disclaimer is a great show. Don’t miss it.
My favorite director!!!
Brillliant and darkly funny.
He directed my favorite Harry Potter movie! 🍿
one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema, period
You can tell he is best friend with Gonzalez Iñarritu 😂
Cuaron, Iñarritu, Del Toro, Lubezki...a great generation of Mexicans filmmakers
“They’re eating the dawgs!” 😅
Kudos to Cuaron. Had the personal motive of his nanny for the movie Roma, just tells you what a great human he is
Children of Men is one of my favourite films, always felt like it was way ahead of its time about the return of fascism and the people being stuck between fascists and terrorists.
"Children of men" is one of my favs dystopian movies
Oh shoot i did that same thing by wondering if Alfonso had directed Amores Perros… it was Iñárritu 😅
The narratives ... I liked the viewpoint of the director and while I was watching the film I never thought it's the main thing!!!wawww
If you want something hard hitting yet subtle Cuarón is your guy
WOW, that's very deep. 🤪
That Philly cheesesteak sandwich looks so good!!! I need one now!! Love you John Fetterman!! Keep up the good work!! ❤
I love him and iñaritu
Very good decision friends, enjoy cinema shows and keep them movie directors busy having fun performing and entertain us fans because.. they are our best inspiration oh yezzzzzz ❤🎉❤
Damn, Apple TV's shows always look amazing. Too bad they're on Apple TV.
Well…subscribe. Pick and choose what platforms matter. Or, don’t eat out one night, for budget’s sake.
Embrace piracy haha
Disclaimer is about perspective. People can see and experience the same tragic event completely differently.
That’s Bradley Whitford
Bless God for diversity altogether. I sincerely enjoyed not knowing what was coming next in the palabras he was telling. PS I really really liked Gravity and need to check out more films from (as I call them) the three-name-named film gods because it is true I mix up more than just two of them.
What was the music in the movie clip? i know it but can't place it
Bottom line: When you have virtually unlimited money, you have practically unlimited power to play offense - in court, in the boardroom or on social media.
Even coffee tea is prepared by tree leaves.
Louis reminds me of a young Curtis Mayfield
The irony of Cuarón telling Stephen "You're a better storyteller" seemed to have been lost on him.
I have never herd a similar Word of Cuarón about López, the mexican Trump.
Humans are storytellers. Narratives are how we think, and how we learn. Read "The Story of B", if ya get a chance.
Hallo stephan
😄
Just as he fell for the populist narrative of the authocrat that dismantled Mexico's nascent democracy. He is a great director nonetheless.
se miraba nervioso de estar ahí alejandro quién lo viera tan famoso y todavía
Colbert: You point a camera on somebody
Jon Batiste: Yes, INDEED!!!
?
Sounds a little bit like Nocturnal Animals from Tom Ford
I wonder if Cuarón still gets a hitch in his chest when showing his work to an audience?
It's an honor to hear from Señor Cuarón. By the way, Alfonso: lindo quemar.
Cinema is a mystery that will be extinct within our lifetime.
What?
How Alfonso out suit you?
"Tu mamá toma Ambien"
He gets mistaken for Inarritu because they both worked with Emmanuel Lubezki in some of their most impressive works, making it difficult to distinguish their styles.
No Iñárritu is More pretencious and his movies are super slow. And they don't look alike at all.
I FORGOT BIRDMAN THAT HAS GOOD RYTHM AND PASTE.
Narrative and Truth! What are we, in a college classroom? Fun times!
How can anyone claim to be someone's fan & want an autograph if they aren't clear about what they look like? 🤦
Mexico not only exports cars inmigrants and avocados to USA
Huh. He’s tall. No wonder he got an American visa.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the best late night show on air, period.
😂😂😂😊
Lubeski...
Disclaimer sounds like the same idea found in Nocturnal Animals
im Mexican and weve always confused Cuaron with Iñarritu. Who wrote Y tu mama tambien and who wrote Amores Perros? We dont know.
its a fascist tendancy called obsession with a plot.
All Spanish look alike?
Great guest! Oh my! Stephen truly lacks charisma
Good directors are masters. Bad or lazy directing is obvious.
He reminds me of real life hero, Chef Jose Andres. 😍
And Ricky Ricardo and Antonio Banderas and Speedy Gonzales...
Of Course.
ARRIBA MEXICO HDSPTM
This is the POS that rejected the pioneers of editing such as Georges Méliès by claiming “there has always been editing” when that’s simply not true.
Alfonso Cuarón 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴 B.S.
He speaks a very decent english but the pronunciation is very chilanga yet...
I’m mexican as well (and I speak english) and his pronunciation is distracting to me, tbh. Him and Iñárritu still seem to struggle speaking fluidly after all these years (at least on interviews). But I suppose because of their status as “auteurs” it’s easier for people around them to oblige and not to correct them, which I don’t think would be the case in a different field of work. 🤷🏽♀️
The scene was contrived, overwrought, and overacted. The music didn't help. The son was an asshole, for no reason. His anger at his mother was completely unmotivated. He started at much too high an energy level at the start of the scene, and it left him nowhere to go.
Otherwise, it was perfect. I can see why the director won an Oscar.
Well, they started right in the middle of the scene; there were at least 2 minutes conversation before, so you didn't see the escalation. And: They have a family history of more than 2 decades together. I've watched the whole thing so far, and it's wonderful acting all around (Blanchett, Baron Cohen, Kline, Manville …).
What's up with all these critics in the comments lately?
You're right about the music. I find it unfittin'...
@maxmonster1432 Also, has OP *met* teenagers? His mother was grilling him, of course he was being defensive and pushing back. Like... "It's just an effing book, mom, get of my @ss!" That's really not unusual behaviour for a teenager.
What trash, shame he was funny for a time.
