Jim Zub's take on Conan presents a return to the type of characters and stories that we all used to know and love. His Conan is maybe the best thing that happened to our beloved character after Dark Horse almost ruined it with Brian Wood's ABYSMAL Queen of the Black Coast, probably the absolute low for the entire series. Of course, before Zub, there was even better run from Jason Aaron (The Life and Death of Conan,) but Jim is also on the right track and has my full support.

I was reading the Death Dealer books based on the iconic character Frank Frazetta created. And I was thinking that the Death Dealer books are set in pre-Atlantian Times. The Death Dealer could exist in the Conan Universe. In fact, I often imagine the prisoner of the horned helmet does exist in the Conan Universe. Since it was Frank Frazetta who defined the look of Conan in the first place. The Owners of the Robert E Howard Estate and the Frank Frazetta's Estate should get together and allow a crossover story where Conan meets Gath the Death Dealer. Two of the biggest badasses in all of history fighting monsters and demons in an epic crossover would be amazing. Forget KingKong Vs. Godzilla. That movie is lame that is meant to only appreciate the Chinese market. I want Conan of Cimmeria and Gath of Baal. That is an epic crossover that would be even more awesome staring the two greatest Badasses of all time

  • @bluestripetiger

All Conan fans were scared that Conan would completely be changed when Marvel took over, that Conan would be updated to reflect woke sensibilities regarding "toxic masculinity etc." to the point where Conan would be a character that was no longer recognizable. Glad to see that hasnt happened due to the involvement of the Conan property owners and that Zub has the freedom to just bring some great sword and sorcery action adventures to the fans.

People wanna get into Conan? Here’s where you start - grab the three volume Del Rey collection: The Coming of Conan, the Bloody Sword of Conan and the Conquering Sword of Conan. They’re fully illustrated, contain all the stories Howard wrote and essays by Conan scholars.
Also, check out “The Cromcast”, a podcast dedicated to pulp fiction, with a focus on Howard.

    • @MidnightsEdge

I agree that is where you go when you already know what you are getting into, and you are ALREADY COMMITTED to take the deep dive. But expecting anyone to go from zero to that deep dive just like that, is a big ask.
The comics however, are a great gateway to that.

As far as I can tell from jim zub there are directors and actors interested in the idea of making a Conan film. Why not get a small group of investors to put up 20 -30 million then approach the actors and directors and offer them a small initial salary and a percentage of future profits. Then make a good relatively cheap film, there's plenty of Conan tales that don't require a cast of thousands or would be special effects heavy.
Once the film's finished then your offering the distributors and film companies a completed film and If it's half decent you'll make your money back plus probably a significant profit.

How do these people possibly believe they can write a better story than the original author is beyond me. REH has a 80 year fan base, they panned the this Conan movie cause it was a crap story. Just use REH stories, their short, action packed, and have more depth of character than any thing I've seen come out of Hollywood in ages.
