This was absolutely awesome! Oh that we could have had this kind of in depth interviews recorded with the likes of Frank Frazetta, Roy Thomas, Barry W Smith, John Buscema, Ernie Chan, Pablo Marcos, Joe Jusko, Alfredo Alcala etc. I'm just glad that in this age these types of opportunities are possible. Thank you Midnight's Edge for doing this. This will one day be part of fantasy writing and sword and sorcery history and I'm glad you have documented it. I'm even more excited and hopeful of what the near future holds for Conan and RE Howard works in general. May there finally be the large scale renaissance that this material so richly deserves. ☺👍
Could this be a new Golden Age of Conan? I sure hope so. I've loved playing Conan Exiles as the most recent and fairly successful game and I loved the original movie, even if it wasn't completely faithful to the Character of Conan or his motivations. Would love to see this revitalise the Conan property and maybe, just maybe, show Marvel that if they stick true to a character and hire TALENTED writers and not political ones, they can be the biggest name in comics for decades to come
Wow, this is such a great interview and honestly I wouldn’t have even considered looking at this book without hearing his story. I’m going to pick this up tomorrow!
This was a great interview. I can't believe you got someone from Marvel to talk to you, given that company's political compass. I fully expect Zub to get criticism from the lefties for talking to you. But I'm glad he took the time to speak to you and give us all some insight into what to expect.
Well done interview. Great pairing of knowledgeable fan and engaged and invested creator. Thanks guys, you killed it and I look forward to seeing Conan continue it's success.
Love Skullkickers! Didn't put two and two together before and realise Jim was the same creator. Now I will have to pick up his Conan run. Thanks for the great interview and your informative videos and thank Jim for his work.
Outstanding interview. Before I even finished watching this I went and ordered Conan the Gambler and pre-ordered Serpent War. Can't wait to tear through them. I'm a big fan of the Dark Horse Conan books. I was worried that Marvel wouldn't do Conan justice. So glad to see that may not be the case.
"Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of..." I think I will pick up Comics again. Conan the Serpent War looks like a great place to start.
Anytime I hear about Conan, I can't help but smile/thinking about playing the play-by-mail game Hyborian War. It really brought to live the difference places of hyboria.
Insightful and intriguing. It was a real pleasure to listen to a creator first hand. His passion for his work is very apparent. Shame there aren't more artists of his calibre and fewer woke activists and bean counters.
This was a good interview, found out a lot I didn't know. Another feather in the cap for Midnight Edge's Conan coverage, Andre. I have to wonder if the Conan people have stipulated for the main comic to remain purely Robert E. Howard inspired and not diluted by Marvel characters.
you know what I'm dying to see? Conan meets Thor. inside the comic-book side but also in the MCU. in fact filling the void of Thor if he dies and is replaced by a female character it will sustain a strong masculine character who is Kingly.
As all of the Marvel Conan comic sales are basically 20 % of what they were at issue #1 (Robert E Howard Media) Honestly , how many more issues will there be before it doesn't pay to create them ? I see Savage Sword has already been pulled. Im a HUGE fan and am just curious. Conan forever !
I see it as the original numbering when it comes to issue to issue. It’s just too much effort every time someone wants to relaunch the reset button to number 1 books. I respect Jim Zub work, and I am looking forward to reading his Conan. I loved Jason Aaron run and I am sure Jim Zub will be fire.
I'll have to give these Conan runs a try. I love Wayward, so I'll pick that one up again (think I left off at issue 18). Good luck to Jim on the relaunch of his dream project.
I’m happy to hear this! I am gonna read Sepant run now and pick up Conan 13 in February. Looking for to it! As long as it’s not woke I’ll stick around lol.
Nice interview. However, I strongly think CONAN should stay in the Hyborean Age and not wander in our era (What could he do against superpowered foes? Shouldn't he be terrified by all this "magic"? Crom!). What was a ludicrous but fun idea in the first "What If?" story in the 1980s, became a cash grab for Disn... I mean Marvel. Great work, guys.
Good interview, sounds like a great guy, I absolutely LOVE reading good Conan stories, and I'm still not giving Marvel Comics one penny of my money. Let'em rot. The fact alone that Mark "EVERYONE I DON'T AGREE WITH IS A NAZI" Waid has any input at all on these books is a big no for me.
But this logic doesn't exactly hold up. If you don't support their good comics, they will never change. Buy the good stuff and let them see what people want by providing proof by numbers.
@@michaelscheuhuber4019 - Seeing as your goal here is to get me to spend my money, I'm sure typing "Yes" over and over will convince me... I'll start I guess. Still no. I don't spend money on stopped clocks who want my money to constantly tell me what a racist, horrible, POS I am. If you want to support a company like that, then have a blast. It's your doe.
@@Krommer1000 I don't care who you give money to. But I care about stupid arguments. If you don't want to give Mark Waid money because he personally called you whatever, sure fine. But punishing guys ,like Jim Zub who give their best, just because a few guys in a company that employs thousands of people said things you don't like is questionable. I can't see how that changes anything.
The marvel cross over thing is just a disney star wars level bad idea. I REALLY REALLY prefer the dark horse conan stories MUCH MUCH better and this is coming from a guy who read ALL the original marvel Conan comics when they came out. This return to marvel thing is putrid in the extreme.
Off topic but partial confirmation on original story of episode 9 www.ign.com/articles/star-wars-colin-trevorrow-confirms-duel-of-the-fates-leak-is-real-as-new-concept-art-surfaces
Conan the Barbarian is the concept of raw masculinity. Marvel is now going to try to cut its balls off. Robert E. Howard must be having a hearth attack in his grave for God sake. Feminist and their minions know about Conan as much as I know about breeding Salamanders. I'll give you a hint. I don't. Crom laughs at them. With all do respect, the writer looks like someone who likes comic books. Not like someone who likes raw adventure and decides to write about it. Big difference. If you want to know what it take to write or film Conan, you need far more manliness than the writer here. Listen to director John Milius and his story about how Robert E. Howard wrote Conan. listen to Frank Frazetta. These people were masculine men who recorded their manliness in a medium of literature, painting or cinema. They were not comic book readers who try to play out their boy fantasy and try to please their feminist corporate boses. Critical difference. And with Marvel going full on radical feminism, all I can say is RIP Conan.
Let’s hope Marvel doesn’t drop the ball again and F up Conan. I’m a fan since I was a kid - long long ago. I still have some of my old Conan comics.... starting with the B.W.S. stuff from issue #1 of the original series. Please DO NOT ruin Conan the Barbarian.
Andre kept his comicsgate bs at minimum, Zub would have left real quick if he behaved in anyway like this channel usually does when Marvel Comics is brought up as a topic.

Good to hear there are some good writers still over at what otherwise is the cesspool of Marvel Comics
Conan is one of the few comics left that is not woke trash. Fantastic stuff.
J T G Long live the Riddle of Steel!

Holy shit man just finished Conan Serpent War #4 and then I get on RUclips and see this. Dope content.

Nathaniel Manzi I’m pretty sure marvel did a “What If” where Conan meets Thor. Long time ago though lol.

It's cool that you managed to get Jim Zub on. I think I'll see if my LCS has any Conan. I usually just buy manga these days.
#13 isn't out yet. If you tell them you want it, they can probably sort you out, no matter what they in store right now.
