I honestly believe it’s due to the whole podcast era. Podcasts have made people famous and notorious just from talking, and with the UFC and Hoe Rogan connections, Schaub became a popular guy off of the podcast. I feel more many standup comics, the fans of the podcast pay to go see them and the comedy portion is just whatever to them. They don’t care about quality especially when they’re out and drinking. With Schaub, I feel like those are mostly dingus fans of the podcast who think he’s funny in podcast format.

A lot of comedians make up their stories for the bit or just to use the blown out of proportion style story for the punch line, but the difference between those comedians and Brendan is that Brendan has never made a good joke

Nick's gripe isn't with that the stories are fake, he already said it's common in stand up to tell fake stories. The issue is with how easy it is to fact check and prove that the stories brendan tells are fake. Brendan's story about an OJ tweet being pinned on his own twitter is a prime example of that. Literally anyone in the audience on the night could have gone to Brendan's twitter and immediately see that he was lying. But yes, like you say, if the joke was funny, it wouldn't have mattered.

Don't sleep on Harlan Williams. He's a "silly wholesome" comedian that deserves praise imo. If you watch his specials, he has a unique sense of humor, but its very inviting. 10/10 guy! Also, not "some old white guy"- he's well versed in the acting world!

As someone who works at a restaurant if anyone calls and asks if "___" works there I always say I don't know. People have stalkers. We're taught to never give out people's schedules or confirm if someone works there.

Its a cheap and dishonest way to get people to buy more food and drinks and be too drunk to care about how unfunny these jokes are. Even Nick had at least one drink because it was such a stupidly long set. Also him laughing is a cheap way for laughs because people tend to mimic (especially when they are too drunk to even know what's going on).
As someone who has seen a lot of stand up & touring comedians, he is not the only one who reuses jokes from specials. They ALL do. It’s just how being a stand up is. I recently saw Theo Von and I damn near knew the entire set myself cause it’s all on RUclips from the last 5 years lol

I used to work at a comedy club here in LA thats not big on the map but we mostly had all the A list comedians I never heard them tell jokes from their specials if anything they used our place to practice for an up coming special but maybe its different for the smaller peoples

Sometimes they're true, but a lot of jokes are just inspired by something that happened to them or that they saw. It shouldn't matter if it's true, just if it's funny. We had to do stage comedy amd the stories we would tell were many times not real or very exagerated and mofified versions of something that actially happened to us. It's theatre... it was expected to not be fully real it just has to be funny or entretaining as you say. I didnt know there is people who would see it as " a lie"
I feel like “lying” in comedy is generally more akin to “tall tales” like telling a story that is untrue or partly fabricated but more or less impossible/irrelevant for people who don’t know you to fact check. Like “oh when I was nine I had a fear of Mickey Mouse and my dad took me to Disneyland to try to get me to get over it and I shit my pants on splash mountain” or something, which could be invented whole cloth, but whether or not it’s real doesn’t matter.

The weird comedian's humor actually resonates with me. I've always connected personally with anti comedy and absurdism, because I've always felt that life itself is a kind of absurdism. I feel like comedy or any kind of art being confined to a certain formula like "verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge," or "set up, story, punch line" just defeats the purpose of that art. Even so, I'd still say Brendan is in the totally wrong business because he lacks genuine resonance with the art. It would be like if I disguised myself as a construction worker and showed up to a site downtown.

I saw him at the Improv a few months ago and I have never not laughed once before during a comedians set, and I’ve been to 50+ shows at least. Shit was so so terrible

I honestly believe it’s due to the whole podcast era.
Podcasts have made people famous and notorious just from talking, and with the UFC and Hoe Rogan connections, Schaub became a popular guy off of the podcast.
I feel more many standup comics, the fans of the podcast pay to go see them and the comedy portion is just whatever to them. They don’t care about quality especially when they’re out and drinking.
With Schaub, I feel like those are mostly dingus fans of the podcast who think he’s funny in podcast format.

Nick's gripe isn't with that the stories are fake, he already said it's common in stand up to tell fake stories. The issue is with how easy it is to fact check and prove that the stories brendan tells are fake. Brendan's story about an OJ tweet being pinned on his own twitter is a prime example of that. Literally anyone in the audience on the night could have gone to Brendan's twitter and immediately see that he was lying. But yes, like you say, if the joke was funny, it wouldn't have mattered.

Don't sleep on Harlan Williams. He's a "silly wholesome" comedian that deserves praise imo. If you watch his specials, he has a unique sense of humor, but its very inviting. 10/10 guy! Also, not "some old white guy"- he's well versed in the acting world!

Harlan Williams is actually a hilarious comedian. Yes, he is weird but he’s usually not as off as the footage you showed. He’s been in some pretty funny TV shows and movies and I’m sure you’ve seen him before. He’s quite famous.

Its a cheap and dishonest way to get people to buy more food and drinks and be too drunk to care about how unfunny these jokes are. Even Nick had at least one drink because it was such a stupidly long set. Also him laughing is a cheap way for laughs because people tend to mimic (especially when they are too drunk to even know what's going on).

As someone who has seen a lot of stand up & touring comedians, he is not the only one who reuses jokes from specials. They ALL do. It’s just how being a stand up is. I recently saw Theo Von and I damn near knew the entire set myself cause it’s all on RUclips from the last 5 years lol

Sometimes they're true, but a lot of jokes are just inspired by something that happened to them or that they saw. It shouldn't matter if it's true, just if it's funny. Yes right? I went to an acting school for 2 years . We had to do stage comedy amd the stories we would tell were many times not real or very exagerated and mofified versions of something that actially happened to us.

Like “oh when I was nine I had a fear of Mickey Mouse and my dad took me to Disneyland to try to get me to get over it and I shit my pants on splash mountain” or something, which could be invented whole cloth, but whether or not it’s real doesn’t matter.

The weird comedian's humor actually resonates with me. I've always connected personally with anti comedy and absurdism, because I've always felt that life itself is a kind of absurdism. I feel like comedy or any kind of art being confined to a certain formula like "verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge," or "set up, story, punch line" just defeats the purpose of that art. Even so, I'd still say Brendan is in the totally wrong business because he lacks genuine resonance with the art. It would be like if I disguised myself as a construction worker and showed up to a site downtown.
That’s why I’ve always loved Douglas Adams’s work.

yeah, i’ve seen a lot of people say that he’s a legend and it’s like absurdist comedy which i understand. the set i saw didn’t really work for me, but i can see why people enjoy it hahahaha

Brenda basically just adapted the cadence and speech pattern from Rogan, the prancing around on stage is from Bryan Callen, proping up a story with lies but without including a single joke is from Bert Kreischer. There's probably more if you dig deeper. But it's safe to say that he has nothing to say as a comedian and just wrote down the cliff notes of what a comedian is supposed to do and sound like.

I saw him at the Improv a few months ago and I have never not laughed once before during a comedians set, and I’ve been to 50+ shows at least. Shit was so so terrible
Also an avid stand up watcher, and I have seen the best and worst just like you, and I have the same response, he is the ONLY comedian I've EVER watched a set for, and just not laugh ONCE at anything the comic is saying or doing, the few chuckles I get are from how awful and bland his commentary actually is, or chuckling at the absolute vacant brain the man seems to have lol. Every single one of his specials I have watched with a stone face, not because I hate Brendon, I don't know him, but he just... isn't... funny, like, at all, and I agree with practically everyone else, comedy isn't his thing at all, he's awful at it, in the interest of fairness, comedy is a hard ass goal to set out for, but it's just not for everyone, that's ok.
But, I dislike a lot of different comedians for various reasons, Brendon is the only one I don't care for, that just can't make me laugh. Even Amy S. can make a decent joke sometimes that might make me chuckle on the premise of the joke alone, and I fucking despise that pig LOL.

The old white dude comic was actually in a good amount of films in the 90s/early 2000s. Mostly small roles, but he was the star of a children’s movie that I went to see with my mom about him going to space with a monkey.
