That story reminded me of an old gaming buddy who also became one of the best game masters I knew. He was fond of stories and was a hell of an actor too. A drunk driver got him. He was not a pro, but he did try.
Ah damn that’s sad, man, my condolences. I do like stories, I’ve always wished I could be a good storyteller since I was kid reading library books under my blankets with a flashlight.
@@tabletopalchemy Thank you. He has been gone over 20 years. At least he is remembered. I think we have all done the flashlight and blanket thing. I know I certainly had.
It is fascinating to watch your creative process in action. Takes my idea of what a wargame can be to a whole new level. Love the pause for a lesson in the proper pronunciation of French words. 😂
As a GM, general gamer, and TT wargamer, I 100% embrace the story element of a warband. I have built many a warband in this fashion. The characters' backstories are as fun and creative as the warband and the game. It doesn't hurt that I've done some writing for Jetpack7 and can't ever turn off the creative process. I look forward to seeing your Warband!
I really appreciate your fascination with names (both first and surnames) as I do the same thing. The etymology is fascinating and the naming of your band is a wonderful and fun process. The Silver Bayonet is one of my favorite games ever (and that says a lot as Mordheim is always my #1). This was a really fun video to watch. Thank you for your passion in presenting this.
Ah super cool, glad you enjoyed it! I’ve never played Mordheim but I’ve heard a lot about it of course. I have a couple of stylized SB battle reports in a playlist on the channel in case you’re interested in following the characters 🤙🍻
Ugh, I said it last time but it bares repeating. Joe is killing wallet. This sounds amazing and the book is beautiful! Haven't pulled the trigger yet but likely just a matter of time. Good stuff, TA.
Well thanks! Probably because while I have a consistent release schedule, I don’t do consistent topics (although they are *mostly* tabletop hobby related), so difficult for the algorithm is my guess lol.🍻
Wow thank you! Well maybe you’ll be interested in what’s happening in the last few vids on the channel (maybe not - but no spoilers lol). Glad u enjoyed it tho, much appreciated!🍻
With the theme of this session, I would love to see if you have ever painted Malifaux or hear if you have played it. And what your scenery would look like
I have a couple malifaux figures but I haven’t played the game. It seems very cool. I think the miniature sculpts are awesome but the figures seem to be true 28mm scale and a touch small for me (normal human figures at any rate). But I’ll probably paint some in a video at some point!
Yay! Just in time for my coffee break! This sounds like a great game to try. I've always wanted to try a skirmish game, but have never had time. This looks like it would be a great intro to the idea.
I am a few months behind on your videos...and I am looking forward to hearing of Ottilie's adventures! And seeing the minis getting painted You did say at the begining this was the second video...I dont think I missed any videos in chonological order...but cant remember seeing the first one
Ah I was probably referring to the terrain trees video which was making the terrain for this skirmish game. I’ll be curious to hear what you think of the actual game (I was pleasantly surprised by the general reaction lol)
Googling and noodling... I think it goes together... man, you are gonna dig Blades in the Dark! We begin playtesting Saturday, 6/10 on Mystfinn Isle. All that you just described would fit in the new system perfectly! That was really cool, thanks for the inspiration! "Brute Force" has been our motto! Keep up the fantastic work!
You mentioned Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell as one of your favorite shows. Where ever did you watch this gem? I can’t seem to find it streaming anywhere
I’m looking forward to checking out its 2d10 mechanic, and I really like the idea of automatic return attacks, really gets across the “exchange” feeling
Bit off topic, but speaking of names and their meaning: Malum Caedo, the name of the protagonist of Boltgun, is real Latin. In real Latin fashion, "Malum Caedo" can be translated in a variety of different ways, depending on the context. However, the main 2 meanings of it are variations of "I slaughter the evil" and "I cut the apple". Make of it what you want 😅
Lol that’s excellent! I’m working on a vid now going more in depth in to my naming activities and I never really considered Latin, but that’s a great idea. 🍻
Warband sound great. The background and the characters were cool. When I make warbands for the skirmish games our group plays I always have a background and little bits of personal info about the members. Sometimes even a theme (like tribals for This Is Not A Test who's ancestors survived the apocalypse in a Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament and now the tribe wears medieval armor and weapons into battle along side guns and tech weapons and speak with horrible British accents). But half the fun of skirmish wargames, for me anyway, is making up the lore and personalities of all your little plastic bastards.
Aww, you missed the potential for a "three little pigs" reference and having the nightmare from the gloam being a werewolf!! 🤣😂🤣 EDIT: Dammit man, look at the Malifaux miniatures for this warband, at least the leader and occult investigator!!
Great stuff bud :-) I recently came across The Sliver Bayonet myself going to get soem books after Christmas for myself :-) I have been enjoying smaller scale games like Turnip28 and The Forbidden Psalm series thanks again :-)
....thus inspired by one of your awesome videos which you sadly deleted recently, i purchased a skirmish game and needed a band of merry adventurers to to gravely venture into the frost to look for magical items, gold, and gift certificates to the local cheese shops. of course, i had to find and print a group of squirrels, bunnies, badgers and guinea pigs nobly armed and armored to do so... but google having been infiltrated by chaotic evil baddies cannot be invoked and instead the League of Critters was found with duckduckgo. of course, any french army would be baguette and mimes themed. life is serious enough i refuse to take my hobby seriously. :)

Lol. Right on, I def like the story side of wargames (I suppose that’s technically called the “campaign” side). 🍻
Wow, when she emerged, white hair, and the tear? Chills, man. Chills. Had to pauze my laundry to comment.
Oh thanks, much appreciated! Glad you liked that bit. You might enjoy the vid coming this Thursday 😉🍻

"A prime opportunity to buy more stuff" love it! So true.

@@tabletopalchemy it sent you my way, so I'm hoping I'm the first of many for you : ]
Much appreciated!
I have some of his other skirmish games and now my interest is peaked for this one. Very cool job on the backgrounds for your band
Awesome! Yeah I am looking forward to using this 2d10 mechanic
Finishing the video this morning. You should be an author! Its so exciting to hear the story of each member of the band. Subscribed!

Your game sounds really fun, love the back story development.
Cool! I hope it’s fun lol haven’t played it yet but will be very soon!
Yay! Just in time for my coffee break!
This sounds like a great game to try. I've always wanted to try a skirmish game, but have never had time. This looks like it would be a great intro to the idea.
I agree, this one is great because you get the regular and solo rules in the same book. 🍻

What a gem of a video!
🍻
I'm digging this man! going to try and rope in a couple mates.
Awesome! It’s got a cool dice mechanic too

Hah excellent! Brute force to the rescue lol
I guess I found my new obsession, I mean game to try... :)
Lol otaku syndrome!
Thanks to your videos I've decided to poach d&d players for my necromunda group, Orcus Fist. Backstory matters in Munda imo.
100% agreed and excellent moving forcible recruiting players lol! 🏴☠️
Awesome , this looks so exciting! :D
Great narration of a battle report while still learning to play the game 🫶🏾
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Incredible story!
Very good choice, très bon choix mon ami. 😄
Lol merci beaucoup 🏴☠️🇫🇷🍻
You mentioned Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell as one of your favorite shows. Where ever did you watch this gem? I can’t seem to find it streaming anywhere
I had to buy it on vudu.com 😐 I do have a whole video on how much I dig that show (and book) lol
Im adopting "the gloaming" that's brilliant
Wait until you’re roaming in the gloaming 😂
🤙🏴☠️💀
AW man I love Brotherhood of the Wolf!
Les Pacte de Loups!! Such fantastic visuals! 🏴☠️🍻
The girl with the beret at the end, has a heavy french accent!🧐..😅😂👏
😂🇫🇷🙏🏼
Now I'm curious about this game...
I’m looking forward to checking out its 2d10 mechanic, and I really like the idea of automatic return attacks, really gets across the “exchange” feeling

You and me both lol

This is awesome! Lol I love the Medieval Times warband 🏴☠️
You do promise to show us the painted models, right? 😊
Yup, working on that vid right now lol 🏴☠️
Aww, you missed the potential for a "three little pigs" reference and having the nightmare from the gloam being a werewolf!!
🤣😂🤣
EDIT: Dammit man, look at the Malifaux miniatures for this warband, at least the leader and occult investigator!!
Oh that is a good one lol! Also yes I 1) really like malifaux sculpts and 2) completely forgot about them. 😐
Subbed
Great stuff bud :-) I recently came across The Sliver Bayonet myself going to get soem books after Christmas for myself :-) I have been enjoying smaller scale games like Turnip28 and The Forbidden Psalm series thanks again :-)
Awesome, I think you’ll dig it. I like the smaller scale games myself 🤙🍻
@tabletopalchemy not only time to play and get ready but time for models to be done as well as just storage. Thanks again

life is serious enough i refuse to take my hobby seriously. :)
Lol excellent! Although I think I’d have to go with eclairs as my standard trooper (in addition to the mime assassin)😂
The next time one of my DMs starts grousing about my backgrounds, I'm playing this video for them. 😉
Lol 🤙🏴☠️
Don’t worry, you can be as anachronistic about time periods as you like as long as you put a “punk” or “core” on the end of it. 😂
Lol this sounds VERY true!
OH!! And if you have never watched the series "sleepy hollow", you SERIOUSLY need to.
Oh I remember trailers for that but I never actually got a chance to check it out, probably do that today!
go a-googling is great!
😂🍻🏴☠️ (all-emoji replies kinda freak me out)
