When I was a teenager, I was really into taekwondo. When I got my green belt, I thought I had perfected my round kick. Perfect execution. But when I reached red belt, my round kick was horrible. Sloppy form and technique, and I was like "WTF happened? I haven't been slacking!" But I realized I didn't get worse, my knowledge had increased and I became conscious of the flaws in my technique that had always been there. So maybe that's what is happening with your mini painting technique. It's all that meta-cognition. :) Because, honestly, your minis look rad.
I watch a lot of “how to paint miniatures” vids. I seldom get to watch one where the painter constantly tells his audience he sucks at it. 😂 It is a pleasure, nay a joy to listen to your cohesive ramblings about whatever it is your doing. Good or bad. Bless you good sir for sharing with us, and please, keep the chaos coming! 😊
Table ready awesomeness indeed...I hope Ottilie and her band survive the werewolves and look forward to the adventure...personally i would have enjoyed seeing the rest painted...but the assembled band at the end was a good shot. Great video TA.
I’m looking forward to seeing what their printed models look like 🍻 I have to say I’ve been liking these Ak 3rd Gen paints quite a bit, to me they feel similar to the p3 line.
@@tabletopalchemy I haven't picked up any of the latest models, but I've heard they are pretty solid quality. I think you might enjoy the Brineblood Marauders. Who doesn't like trollkin pirates?
Those minis turned out fantastic! The 'brighter' than historical colours evoke an awesome comicbook feel. Especially the warband proper- I love how well they all fit together despite being made my different manufacturers. I'm impressed by the werewolves too- I've found 3d printed resin a weird textured kind of material to work with but yours are clearly nice & smooth!
I popped in just to say it was this channel that got me thinking about Silver Bayonet. I picked up a copy today when I was at my local hobby shop on a whim. So stoked! Thanks, Ignatius. Love the channel!
@@tabletopalchemy I'm also going to see if I can reskin it with stat block and maybe some missions set in Japan's Edo Period. I'm a big Japanese history nerd. I'd be happy to send you a copy of them.
Thank you for the video. As I have mentioned befoer, I truly enjoy listening to you talk. The miniatures came out great. If I may be so bold as to suggest something. If you want to get better at blending, just practice on a 12X12 canvas maybe with some acrylic paints. I don't think it will matter the color, jsut keep painting it over and over with one or two different colors blending into eachother. Then do one with some of the same colors blending into eachother like all ocean colors, dark blue or purple blending into deep blue, to very dark teal, to lighter teal then aqua or something. That's how I learned. It takes practice but it is fun. Great video. Thank you again.
Great suggestion, thanks! I get that mostly is just practice lol. I’ll make a point of doing some specific practice exercises in the future. And as always I’m glad my voice isn’t annoying lol (I’m sure it is to some folks but you know, it’s a fools errand to try to appeal to everyone😂).
These look great! FYI coat all sides (top, bottom, edges) of those clue markers with the ink and they won't warp 'as bad'. Better yet spay them with matte varnish first. I'm guessing you're doing a variation of Sly Flourish's markers, at least that's how I ended up with one of those punches. 😄 Works a treat! Good stuff, TA.
wood tends to warp when it there is a difference in moisture on one side of the wood compared to the other. To minimise warping do whatever you are doing to both sides of the wood (in this case that means paint both the front and back of the token) and make sure the token is placed so that both sides will dry at the same rate.
It's interesting... in ALL these youtube videos of speedpaints and contrast paints, you never see them doing what you did (going back after painting some bit to re-paint areas white so they can go over it again). I've always wondered why that's not more common... be a little messy at first, then clean up the edges, and go. Anyway, great vid, as always.
Yeah, the warped wood thing. Often, (but not always) painting the other side, or in this case the bottom, will counteract the warp. It's a surface tension thing, rather than a wet wood thing. Though with tiny pucks of wood it might just be a you got them wet thing. Still, try it. can't wreck them any further.
Some years ago I scored some Ral Partha Pewter minis at a garage sale. Thanks for some inspiration to do a bit of painting. I have a few gargoyles and other fun stuff. That just reminds me to find some sound FX for them. Gotta have the sound fx for the games.
Escoffier is definitely my kinda guy. I really love this warband. P.S.: ... and curse you for that sacrebleu trick of just sitting in the chair. It made me paint Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut, ten Iron Kindgoms mécréants, and finish my twelve kobolds squad. Just kidding, bless you. Keep on keeping on!
You could have gotten the exact wolves as stls from myminifactory and scaled them to your preference. Same set has werewolves as well. Great job on the painting though.

Awesome, glad you liked it - no spoilers for how it all pans out lol!
It is so refreshing to see you be so honest about your painting. We are mortal after all.
Don’t I know it lol. Glad u enjoyed it! 🍻
I love how the French colors worked out. Also this whole thing makes me think of Brotherhood of the Wolf
Definitely an inspiration for the outfits lol

''..Which we both know I probably won't'' - Yep, my philosophy as well :)
But honestly, these look great, I love the Werewolves especially.
Nice, thank u! 🍻
Nicely done. Thank you for keeping me motivated. I thoroughly enjoy your videos waiting for me when I get home from work on Thursday nights
Well, much appreciated and I’m glad to hear that! 🍻
The paint jobs turned out great. Well done 🎉
Thank u!

Thanks! Some printers (sellers) use finer settings, I def have some that are too textured but it’s hit and miss sometimes. 🍻

i wish he liked DnD minis more, this dude rocks tho
I actually paint most of my minis with DnD in mind! More to come for sure😎🏴☠️
The privateer press guy confused me, too. I like how their models look but sometimes logic is put on hold for the rule of cool.
That’s the best way I’ve heard it described lol 🍻
Where did you get the clue markers? Are they something michael's or hobby lobby carry?
They might be available in those stores, I got them from Amazon and Etsy but they seem to be fairly common. 🍻
Did you watch the french movie, brotherhood of the wolf 2002, in prep for your game?
It was definitely in the back of my mind! I reference it too in the vid on building the warband on paper🏴☠️🍻
I get that feeling about art a lot unfortunately.
