The portability of this is quite astonishing. I've already seen someone port it to the Scanian War (in the 1670s), and I might just have to do two parallell collections now...
That's a part of what I like about it. I'm using the Spanish list for the Ottomans and using the invasion of Egypt and Syria as the setting. And using my Blood and Plunder for a Caribbean campaign. Also some Blood and Plunder and Muskets & Tomahawks for a Colonial Gothic setting. Other than the Ottomans I can use my existing collections.
It really is a perfect time period to set something like this in and so easy to transplant around different settings in order to have different mythological beasties to come across.
The distressed journel design of the rulebook is outstanding. It really adds to the feel of the ruleset and helps slide into the gothic and historical mindset for the game
You know you are on a winner when everyone wishes they had thought of it. The game to me seems to be a way to draw different communities of gamer to play together. The scope for Silver Bayonet as a potential TV hit is huge. I wish Joe the greatest success.
I really like the rules for black powder guns; those of close combat that give a sense of duel; and finally all the anti-monster equipment, which gives me the same idea of careful preparation that the making of potions in the video games of The Witcher series gave me.
Good insight from the designer on the D20 to a D10 concepts. I like the mix up for the D10s. Plus I love plying Naps too...so painting up super-characters is a real treat for this game.
Just discovered you guys and am loving the channel! Brilliant interview- Joe seems like a great dude to have a chat with. I'm with you on Napoleon in Egypt, but I have to say that the 1798 Rebellion in Ireland is gonna be something I try out! Fighting in a ruined ring fort near the Hill of Tara in the moonlight? Yes, please :-D
I always enjoy interviews with Joe, even though I haven't really found the time to play many of his games yet. Really nice to see the passion of a human being driving the desire for more gaming, rather than a product by committee. That love is infectious.
I'm actually painting up minis based on the real history behind Brotherhood of the Wolf - The Beast of Gevaudan. It's immediately after the Seven Years War and indeed involves a French "legion" that fought in the Seven Years War, the Volontaires de Clermont-Prince.
Games like this are the perfect reason to dip my toes into Historical miniatures. There are some Napoleonics by Perry Miniatures that I've been itching to kitbash, and now I have the excuse.
As a fan of Joe's previous work, I have been looking forward to this ever since it was hinted at on his blog. I think the use of the 2d10s is inventive, particularly the way they can be used as either power or skill depending on the class. The fact that it supports solo play right out of the gate is awesome too. I look forward to seeing how Gerry and Justin get on with the system over the course of this week.
I love this skirmish game so much I started making a light hack out of the Flames of Freedom RPG so I can bring it over to my TTRPG shelf. Black Powder and Horror are like peanut butter and chocolate; I don't understand why there's not more of this combination in entertainment media of all sorts--from video games to movies, it's just such an inspired setting!
Mr McCullough is a bloody genius! Every game so far has been bang on (Rangers of Shadowdeep being my favourite), and this looks to continue that trend!
Hi guys. Just want to say the new game Silver Bayonet is really cool.. Can you tell me if there are going to be any add on's like Frostgrave etc... Have just bought the rule book and i like it a lot.. Thanks again for great games.
The more I watch, the more interested in this game I am. The rule book looks fantastic! Very unique artwork. Can’t wait to see a PvP game. The solo play hasn’t been doing much for me so far
So looking forward to this game! Frostgrave has been a blast, but I've had my eye on this one for awhile now. I should finally be able to use my old Flintloque figures again, though the North Star figures look amazing per usual.
The Silver Bayonet seeems to provide a good sandbox/template for creating skirmish fantasy/horror games in the black musket era and has been released at a time when there are many plastic multi-part Napoloeonic & Fantasy figure sprues available for use in kit-bashing to create napoleonic fantasy/horror figures. Yes, Alternative Armies Flintloque range produced Napoleonic Fantasy years ago, but now with so many plastic ranges readily available , as well as 3d printing, there is so much available to to allow hobbyists to be creative about the setting and figures to use.
I commented on the last video that I was looking at using French troops in Egypt for this game, then Gerry says himself that an Egyptian setting could work. Great minds and all that! Now where do I find 28mm scale pyramids online...
Santa is bringing this one hopefully and the kids are big into that historical era at the moment so win win for everyone. Plus what’s not to like when I “have too”!!! delve into another range of miniatures 😂
I'm interested in how the group that was playing a later period modified the game. I love it, but I think that War of 1812, etc. would be interesting. One would basically only need a flavored US nationality list and an additional monster or two from Native traditions to make it work. Not a big tweak at all.
Kudos on the solo element. Beware arcane symbols and sigils you find in old abandoned houses. They may be inviting the monsters versus protecting from them. Hahahaha. Looks like a fun, quickly learned ruleset.
Great to hear the author talking about the game 👍.
Really am impressed by the game, it has introduced me to "historical war" but in a personally pleasing fantastical way!
This is the first miniature game I've played / bought anything for in 25+ years. Looks so cool
Nice interview. The fact that it had solo rules / missions swung it for me.
The breakout hit of the season.
Please tell me that you have a rag-tag misfit 95th rifles crew lead by a unkillable proper bastard.
Looking forward to creating Sharpe's 95th Rifles in this skirmish game.
Been looking for more Silver Bayonet content. Stoked for these!
Silver bayonet is such a cool mix of influences … so atmospheric
The portability of this is quite astonishing. I've already seen someone port it to the Scanian War (in the 1670s), and I might just have to do two parallell collections now...

I love the idea of this game. Already love the Napoleonic era and this puts an amazing twist on things
Always fascinating to hear these designer interviews and discover how the game came to be. Love the 'on theme'' design of the rulebook!
I always like the idea of fantasy springing out of grounded history rather than pure fantasy as such. The background is intriguing.

The design both mechanical and aesthetic is spot on.
I'm actually painting up minis based on the real history behind Brotherhood of the Wolf - The Beast of Gevaudan. It's immediately after the Seven Years War and indeed involves a French "legion" that fought in the Seven Years War, the Volontaires de Clermont-Prince.
As someone who fell in love with Flintloque when it was first released, this has my attention.
Very fun game. Playing a small british vs french campaign of the retreat to coruña. Looking forward to more of this!
sounds a bit like the old Alternative Armies game Flintloque, which was a lot of fun
Games like this are the perfect reason to dip my toes into Historical miniatures. There are some Napoleonics by Perry Miniatures that I've been itching to kitbash, and now I have the excuse.
I have basically waiting forever for a game with this theme!

Looks real nice! Dracula’s America was a lot of fun and this fits nicely bringing that genre to Europe.
I've always fancied getting into Napoleonic gaming and this might be the opportunity to have a go
Sounds interesting, hope we get a bunch of background stuff for it too
Am tempted to go for this in a big way. Love the asthetics of this and the concept.
I find these designer interviews very useful for gauging a game - keep them coming :-)
Thanks guys - it always interesting to get to know what the writers intentions were behind a ruleset.

Can Mr McCullough do no wrong! Love all his games!
Looking forward to this- I have not played anything by Joseph but very interested
I like the two dice system, as well the recruitment method for each country
Really impressed with the evolution of the FG/RoSD engine. Big improvements!
I was on the fence before but now I have mighty need for this game.
I just love games that let me print my own minis
Printed off some for this game already.
@@lochmoigh1 any particular creators?
Can't wait to open this up when it gets to my house!
Love the look and feel of silver Bayonet.
Mr McCullough is a bloody genius! Every game so far has been bang on (Rangers of Shadowdeep being my favourite), and this looks to continue that trend!
Loving the look of the game and excited to get in some battles
Love the setting of this game! I'm surely going to buy it!

It'll be interesting to see where whether this new ruleset will catch on what with the different dice
Great interview!
Really like the look of this game, hope many more expansions are planned.
It’s got a timeless feel.
Love the look of this!!
This looks like a fun skirmish game to add to the weekend gaming choices. thanks for the videos
The more I watch, the more interested in this game I am. The rule book looks fantastic! Very unique artwork. Can’t wait to see a PvP game. The solo play hasn’t been doing much for me so far
I have always loved the blend of historical and other genre like fantasy or horror
Glad to know there are solo rules in the main book. As Joe said will be good to be able to play to learn rules even without a opponent
He certainly sells it well! Roll on the next video.
Re alternative settings, I bet some of those spooky forest scenarios could be run in a foggy city down by the docks past midnight
Really enjoying the game so far!
This will be a great addition to planning out October horror game month. Also enjoy what the fantasy aspect has to offer.
This has inspired me to get into the game myself!
Ready to play my first game of this.
Cool setting! Considered incorporating ”the reset”?
Never got into Napoleonics due to the model count so this seems like a nice entry point.
So looking forward to this game! Frostgrave has been a blast, but I've had my eye on this one for awhile now. I should finally be able to use my old Flintloque figures again, though the North Star figures look amazing per usual.
I love his games!!! Bought the book but still haven't finished my warbands to get to play!

Got to admit, it's the look of the book that is selling this one to me.
an interesting dice mechanic. I'm interested to see how this plays out.
Would love to try this one,!
I really like the miniatures that Northstar makes for this game
Definitely curious to give silver bayonet a try. Love sludge, this feels very similar vibes
Frostgrave puts out some fun and creative stuff.
Really looking forward to getting in on this one.... Already got a Rangers of Shadowdeep on the go!
Got tuis on my xmas list. Whats everyone using for monsters minis?
A great game that I'm currently painting mini's for.
It's an interesting rule set. I think this is something I'd be interested in further. Good stuff
Looking good. Need some new minis.
I commented on the last video that I was looking at using French troops in Egypt for this game, then Gerry says himself that an Egyptian setting could work. Great minds and all that! Now where do I find 28mm scale pyramids online...
I can't wait to get a game of this
Probably will try this with my Flintloque figures
would give it a go
I've been wondering how much work it would take to turn the solo/co-op rules into a TTRPG by taking over the monsters.
Apparently I live under a rock because this is the first time I’ve heard of this game.
It looks interesting enough, I wouldn't mind getting into some sorta historical mini's game and this might just be it!
Does the Austrian air rifle feature with any special rules?
That looks really sweet!
This is definitely on my radar…
Excellent video. I just grabbed the British pack from my FLGS.
Is there a similar system set in WW2 by any chance.? Also this looks fantastic.
Santa is bringing this one hopefully and the kids are big into that historical era at the moment so win win for everyone. Plus what’s not to like when I “have too”!!! delve into another range of miniatures 😂
Really keen on this game. I'll gladly leave my winning comment here ;)
great looking game willing to see some batreps
I really love Joe's work, he seems to have the finger on the pluse of skirmish wargaming. Looking forward to what comes next
Grr, I keep finding more units I want to build - on a hunt now for figures to build a Romani group!
I'm interested in how the group that was playing a later period modified the game. I love it, but I think that War of 1812, etc. would be interesting. One would basically only need a flavored US nationality list and an additional monster or two from Native traditions to make it work. Not a big tweak at all.
Nice gamer and lovely figures there from North Star
Kudos on the solo element. Beware arcane symbols and sigils you find in old abandoned houses. They may be inviting the monsters versus protecting from them. Hahahaha. Looks like a fun, quickly learned ruleset.
This makes me tempted to collect some Napoleonic figures and paint them in Turnip28 style but play Silver Bayonet with them.
I am expecting a copy for Christmas...
